US charges 72 over 'nightmare' child porn network

US officials Wednesday unveiled charges against 72 people in their largest global probe into Internet child pornography which smashed a "nightmare" online bulletin board catering to pedophiles.

The investigation launched in 2009 has led to arrests in the US and 13 other countries of participants in Dreamboard, which had a "VIP" ranking system for members trading in graphic images and videos of adults molesting children age 12 and under, often violently, the Justice Department said.

"Dreamboard's creators and members lived all over the world -- but they allegedly were united by a disturbing belief that the sexual abuse of children is proper conduct that should not be criminalized," Attorney General Eric Holder said.

"The members of this criminal network shared a demented dream to create the preeminent online community for the promotion of child sexual exploitation, but for the children they victimized, this was nothing short of a nightmare."

An article from the www.2theadvocate.com site yesterday claimed 52 of the people charged are from Acadiana -- Louisiana Cajun country.

This article does not mention any ties to Louisiana...

That article is based on a report out of Lafayette, Louisiana.

The Morning Advocate article is:

A civil libertarian I know once said “the key to unlocking the bill of rights is the phrase ‘kiddie porn’.”

This was an extremely sadistic situation.

Basically, it appears children [including babies] were tortured to meet the rules of this website.

To continue to be a member of this website, one had to upload explicit pictures of children being sexually abused.

From the article:

"And, in many cases, the children being victimized were in obvious, and intentional, pain -- even 'in distress and crying,' just as the rules for one area of the bulletin board mandated," he added.

The he referenced is Eric Holder, AG of the Dept of Justice...

Membership was tightly controlled by the administrators of the bulletin board, who required prospective members to upload child pornography portraying children 12 years of age or younger when applying for membership, the release said.

Once they were given access, members were required continually to upload images of child sexual abuse in order to maintain membership. Members who failed to follow this rule would be expelled from the group, the release said.

I would say that the United States started a skid when it became legal to mail magazines such as Playboy through the US Postal Service.

You might disagree.

Pornography tends to lead to addiction for some people just as drugs, alcohol and cigarettes lead to additions...

Jesus stated that one knows a tree by its fruit -- a good tree will only bear good fruit and a bad tree will bear bad fruit.

It is clear what tree pornography is made of...

I think the movie Taken speaks for what I believe is true...

In my opnion, the death penalty is the only appropriate punishment for those who produce child pornography.

I am ashamed that quite a few of the people find guilty were from South Louisiana -- Cajun Country -- at least according to the Morning Advocate article...

Many years ago, I was told that prisoners were very abusive towards other prisoners guilty of child sexual abuse.

I don't know if that is still true or not.

But for the ones in Louisiana, I imagine they might be headed to Angola...

Up until a few years ago, aggravated rape of a minor was a capital crime in Louisiana. Thanks to the SCOTUS, that is no longer the case.

Would've come in handy in this case.

I have promised my wife that if I ever caught someone abusing my child I would instantly kill them and take my chances with a jury.

I’ve thought of having caregivers sign waivers stating, “I understand that if I abuse your child I will die a quick and violent death.”

These are not idle words FRiend.

Justice can no longer be found in the courts. They will do a short stint and then be released to offend again. It’s time we parents make a pact not to ever indict or find guilty anyone who kills a pedophile.

As an Area Defense Counsel in the Air Force, I had to defend two child molesters. Most disturbing experiences of my life, not to say my career as an attorney. And the chilling thing is that they were both guilty as sin, yet neither one would address the issue - they denied, avoided, tried to redirect the conversation, got their families to lie for them - and would look me straight in the eye and say, “I don’t know why they’re saying these terrible things about me!”

Not enough showers in the day to make you feel clean after spending time with one of these animals. And THEY. DON’T. GET. BETTER.

Ah, “The Ponderosa”. Too bad, but it looks like a federal case.

What is sad, Colonel, is that the case you are discussing affected YOU more than it ever did them. You were left with the nightmares and they were left with the concept that they did no wrong.

Wrong

From the article

Walker said the case is based in Shreveport because of Edward Oedewaldt, of Arcadia, an alleged member of Dreamboard who used the screen names “twelvish” and “Legend” while on the board.

Oedewaldt was the first member of the board to be identified, Walker said.

Walker said Oedewaldt “was a significant member of the board” although he could not say how significant as it was not yet public record.

Oedewaldt is the only known defendant from Louisiana, officials said.
