Ryan Asked Boehner to Pass Him Over for Appointment to Super Debt Committee
Fox News ^ | August 10, 2011 | Fox News

House Speaker John Boehner's decision not to appoint the Republican Party's financial wizard, Rep. Paul Ryan, to a 12-member super committee tasked with finding more than $1 trillion in savings came as a surprise to almost everyone but Ryan, who said he asked not to be a member of the panel despite earlier indications that he would serve if asked.

Several Republicans had rooted for Ryan to be part of the 12-member panel.

"I definitely would have Chairman Paul Ryan, just because he lives and breathes these numbers, he knows them inside and out. He understands what needs to be done," Rep. Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., told CNBC before Boehner's announcement. "I think Paul Ryan definitely has to be at that."

Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, said Wednesday that he asked Boehner not to consider him because of his plan to overhaul the budget process this fall. Aides to Boehner confirmed that to Fox News.

"This past year has shown that the federal budget process is more broken than ever and needs to be reformed," the Wisconsin congressman said in a written statement, showering praise on the three Republicans that Boehner chose -- Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas and Reps. Dave Camp and Fred Upton, both of Michigan.

"If we are truly going to put the country's fiscal house in order, it will not be enough to temporarily reduce what Washington spends," he said. "We must permanently reform the process by which working American’s hard-earned tax dollars are spent"

Good. His talent would be wasted on this useless commission. As usual, amidst all the BS, Ryan is one of the exceedingly few addressing the fundamental, systemic drivers of our debt and prommulgating workable plans to address it. "If we are truly going to put the country's fiscal house in order, it will not be enough to temporarily reduce what Washington spends...We haven't seen a budget passed in the Senate in two years," he continued. "The president hasn't put out a specific plan to fix this problem, and they don't even want to go with structural entitlement reform which is what you have to do to fix this problem, prevent this downgrade and get this economy growing."

Exactly. Ryan is not fool - smart political move. No GOP Cong worth his salt will want his fingerprints on the committee package.

But all of our fellow FReepers told us Boehner had it in for Ryan, was against Ryan and would never have appointed him to the commission to spite him and everyone else. Now it seems Ryan didn’t even want to be part of the commission.

Free Republic is filled with countless idiots these days ... Nobody in this country has any reason anymore ...

I still don't know that is not true.

Did you not post the same exact BS yesterday???? Ryan is a fool trying to hide his record, he voted for TARP and helled whip the vote, and he did the same damn thing with this boner cave. Now he runs around saying my hands are clean. Give me a list of what departments the fool would cut today for a balanced budget.

But all of our fellow FReepers told us Boehner had it in for Ryan

You must have been reading someplace else and thinking you were reading FR. First, all FReepers have rarely, if ever, agreed on anything. Second, if there was a majority consensus about how Boehner might be viewing Ryan, most of the posts were about how Ryan caved and kissed Boehner's ring when he voted for the Reid/Boehner travesty. There's no reason whatsoever that Boehner would "have it in" for Ryan.

Free Republic is filled with countless idiots

Why not find someplace to participate where you don't have such utter contempt for the membership?

Well, the senate names I heard were very good: Portman, Kyl, and Toomey. I’d prefer Rubio, Paul, and Toomey, but those three are pretty good.

Hey, it’s the anti-Republican Dem troll. Who do YOU want? Why do YOU never name a name? Why can’t YOU tell us who YOU support? Speak, troll.

Your wrong.

I have utter contempt for everybody who has caused this country to get to the point it is today. I will go where I please.

Well, I know the person's point. Recently, the tone of FR has been heavily anti-GOP, and honestly 90% of it comes from a couple of Dem trolls---and they know who they are.

But common is the notion that Snow, Collins, and Brown would be on the committee---repeated here endlessly---when in fact it's conservatives like Kyl, Portman, and Toomey. I'd prefer Rubio, Paul, and Toomey, but I have respect for Kyl and Portman was supported by OH's Tea Party.

Now that I see the lineup of the absolute Socialist Rogues Gallery the Democrats have appointed I agree. This panel would be a complete waste of his time and talents.

Same old worn out BS., check with the owner and see if this is a republican site. Last I heard we were conservatives here. Do a search and find the GOP rino location, they are real similar to the DU location I am told, one wants to spend five dollars less than the other.
