The days of the Tea Party's influence on American politics are numbered, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said this weekend.
The Senate's top Democrat told a home state newspaper that he expects the conservative activist moment's grasp on the GOP to diminish, a bold prediction given the influence that group showed Saturday in Ames, Iowa, where Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), a Tea Party darling, won an influential presidential straw poll.
"The Tea Party was the result of a terrible economy … I've said that many times, and I believe that," Reid told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in an interview published Sunday.
"That [the Tea Party] will pass. They will lose a number of seats next year," he said.
What did you say, Mr. Reid?....What’s that?....Your voice is fading so fast that I can barely hear.....

That was my immediate thought, too. And I feel good knowing that it will happen, given time. Which reminds me of a political riddle:
Q: Who’s dumber than Harry Reid?
A: A Reid voter.
Sure, when it’s no longer needed. After we consign progressivism to the dustbin of history!
That's been part of my tagline for years...
The Democrat leadership can't even make up their collectivist minds over the proper "hate the Tea Party" message to use. This is at least the sixth lame explanation for the Tea Party which those thugs have tried to push. At least this one seems to acknowledge that the Tea Party is a real movement.
So, which is it?
Is it, "the Tea Party is simply phony Republican astroturf"?
Or, is it, "the Tea Party is a bunch of racists who are only making noise because Obama is black"?
Or how about, "the Tea Party is a group of violent extremists who are intimidating the people's elected representatives and posing a threat to the United States government"?
Or is it, "the Tea Party is just a front group for evil Capitalist billionaires such as the evil Koch brothers as well as evil international Zionist bankers and evil corporations and evil Wall Streeters who want to take away your Social Security and Medicare"?
Or, maybe it's, "the Tea Party is a group of terrorists who are intent on making the government default and destroying the dollar so that they can destroy the jobs of working people and government union members"?

Right On. I believe the Tea Party will merge into and set the Republican party back on the RIGHT path. This is the only way we will be able to survive and beat the liberals and progressives. We cannot afford to divide with a 3rd party and this is our only recourse. I believe that most of the Tea Party members are self described Republicans and or conservatives and have been voting prediminatly Republican anyway. Of course I have described myself and the vast majority of my family, friends, and Tea Party co- conspirators. I describe myself as a Tea Party, Conservative, Republican. I’ve never missed an election and have never voted for a democrat. I welcome the Tea Party members to the Republican party, It’s what we need.
Reid’s an ahole.
Reid will be long gone when that happens.
