Reid: Tea Party will fade away in time By Michael O'Brien - 08/14/11 11:39 AM ET

The days of the Tea Party's influence on American politics are numbered, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said this weekend.

The Senate's top Democrat told a home state newspaper that he expects the conservative activist moment's grasp on the GOP to diminish, a bold prediction given the influence that group showed Saturday in Ames, Iowa, where Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), a Tea Party darling, won an influential presidential straw poll.

"The Tea Party was the result of a terrible economy … I've said that many times, and I believe that," Reid told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in an interview published Sunday.

"That [the Tea Party] will pass. They will lose a number of seats next year," he said.

If Reid truly wanted to fix our economy all he has to do is make Cowboy Poetry festivals mandatory in every district of every state. sigh.

The Tea Party movement’s grassroots initiation and growth was/is the realization by the silent majority that the GOP no longer represented the principled things it believes in.

Formost of those things is a belief in God. Secondly we believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness—our God given rights spelled out in our constitution.

Usurpton of the WH by The Marxist Onada and the bad economy were subsets of those beliefs.

I would like to this opportunity to thank Arizona voters for the despicable Senator Harry Reid.

The Tea Party was the result of a terrible economy

The Tea Party was created by American people to represent them because the Republicrat/Dumbocan Party certainly does not. In fact the Republicrat/Dumbocan Party seems to work entirely against the will of the American people.

The Tea Party will fade away as soon as we have a true conservative Republican Party in the white house and both houses of Congress. However, it will always rear it’s head when needed to make sure the people are still in charge and not the government and to make sure we are adhering to the Constitution.

A: A Reid voter.

The Tea Party was the result of a terrible economy...

The Democrat leadership can't even make up their collectivist minds over the proper "hate the Tea Party" message to use. This is at least the sixth lame explanation for the Tea Party which those thugs have tried to push. At least this one seems to acknowledge that the Tea Party is a real movement.

So, which is it?

Is it, "the Tea Party is simply phony Republican astroturf"?

Or, is it, "the Tea Party is a bunch of racists who are only making noise because Obama is black"?

Or how about, "the Tea Party is a group of violent extremists who are intimidating the people's elected representatives and posing a threat to the United States government"?

Or is it, "the Tea Party is just a front group for evil Capitalist billionaires such as the evil Koch brothers as well as evil international Zionist bankers and evil corporations and evil Wall Streeters who want to take away your Social Security and Medicare"?

Or, maybe it's, "the Tea Party is a group of terrorists who are intent on making the government default and destroying the dollar so that they can destroy the jobs of working people and government union members"?

Yo Pinky Reid. The Tea party won't fade away until the nation is restored to the Constitution.

Meanwhile you have stolen your last election. Be thankful if you aren't tarred, feathered and run out of DC on a rail back to your Nevada land swindles.

Right On. I believe the Tea Party will merge into and set the Republican party back on the RIGHT path. This is the only way we will be able to survive and beat the liberals and progressives. We cannot afford to divide with a 3rd party and this is our only recourse. I believe that most of the Tea Party members are self described Republicans and or conservatives and have been voting prediminatly Republican anyway. Of course I have described myself and the vast majority of my family, friends, and Tea Party co- conspirators. I describe myself as a Tea Party, Conservative, Republican. I’ve never missed an election and have never voted for a democrat. I welcome the Tea Party members to the Republican party, It’s what we need.

I find it interesting that when the Tea Party first started, Democrats thought it was just a fad. Now, the words “Tea Party” is on every Democrats lips.

Actually, the Libs use the contemptuous term "tea-baggers" when speaking about the TEA Party.

This means that all of the Democrats have "tea-baggers" on their lips.

Feel free to copy and paste this comment into an email to send to your Progressive (Commie) relatives and associates.

He is such an insular ideologue that he has no idea what he is talking about. He has no conception that it is not a political party at all, but rather a huge, grass roots movement away from nanny government thinking, of which he is the worst example.

The Tea Party has no interest in the agendas and itineraries generated by the establishment channels. The citizens can see for themselves that the political system is broken and unresponsive, even as the system voices proclaim the system is vital and fully engaged. The problem for both parties is the Tea Party is not turning to them for validation. Rather, they are relying on their friends, neighbors, and peers for information and response.

It is not the fault of the Republicans or the Democrats or even of Obama that the Tea Party coalesced. It was the disconnect from reality and common sense regarding the stated aims of politicians and the core principles which inform the philosophies of the average American that provided the fertilizer for the Tea Party to flourish. If blame must be assigned, then it properly lies with Ronald Reagan. His administration embraced common sense solutions to problems and gave Americans their first glimpse of the concept that government does not have to be synonymous with idiocy. He showed that principals did not have to be filtered until they pandered to the universally lowest common denominator. No, it wasn’t a perfect embrace of the concept, but enough of an element celebrating ideals instead of mediocrity was displayed that it gave the lie to the Progressives and the media which propped them up.

The Tea Party is uncontrollable because it is people talking to other people that they trust, respect, and with whom they agree. Common sense, an exquisite sense of right and wrong, a dismissal of pop culture politics, and an intuitive belief that the affairs of human beings trump those of snails and frogs powered the rise of the party. Generations have watched as politicians were asked direct questions from which they danced and weaved only to evade the question in its entirety. The media pretended they got an answer and the pols pretended they gave a response. In time, many people learned to ignore both. A question posed to a politician by a citizen should be of the same caliber as a police interrogation and demand specific and unequivocal responses. Somehow, politicians have wrapped themselves in a mantle of deference that disallows uncomfortable lines of questioning. It should be their honor to serve the people and their duty to answer directly. A politician should be under oath at all times they are in office with a sword of perjury dangling over them. Answer the question. Answer it honestly or resign. How many cads would seek shelter in office if that were the rule of the land?

The Tea Party did not seek out the GOP. It was the GOP that sought us. If they want to change and come into compliance with our ideals, fine. But if they want use the party to continue their misbehavior then they will find themselves gutted from within. The establishment story line is that the Tea Party is about taxes. That is a gross and purposeful underestimation. Its aims are the same as millions of other clear thinking and unembellished Americans. Namely, God given rights, a free market, strict construction of the constitution, and limited government (aka personal freedom). So long as the façades of politicians like Reid, Durbin, Schumer, McCain, Romney, and Graham are draped over the political landscape, the Tea Party will grow in size and intensity. If they adopt the principles of the party; and they are sincere, they may well see a subsidence…in the next 20 years or so.
