African Americans who share conservative views on society and politics gathered in St. Louis this weekend to talk about building a grassroots organization. It was the first national convention for Move-On-Up.Org, a group that began as an electronic social network connecting blacks who felt big government was heading in the wrong direction.

The meeting drew people from six or seven states as well as Missouri politicians

...

The first African American chairman of the St. Charles County Republican Party, Eugene Dokes credited Move-On-Up with encouraging his interest in politics and challenging him to improve his education. A Navy veteran, Dokes now runs his own real estate agency and is working on his PHD in business. He said the convention showed participants “you’re not a bad African American for being a conservative."

Awesome! It is very good to see people learning about the dignity of the individual and the blessings of liberty as well as seeing how collectivism destroys the soul and, ultimately, society.

I hope this catches on and spreads. Black people have been held back by liberal oppression for too long.

Hubby and I attended the banquet last night. Excellent in all respects! Everyone needs to support Move-On-Up's efforts to educate and motivate blacks away from (borrowing from Star Parker's book title) "Uncle Sam's Plantation."

Great and inspiring event. I hope they do it again!

You have to respect these guys, I'm sure they get treated hatefully by the other 97% of their people on a regular basis.

You gotta be a pretty strong person to stand up to that kind of social pressure.

Note to self: Next time, read the title slug more carefully. I thought at first that it said “Move-ON.org.”

I think that is great you went to the affair and thanks g76 for posting this thread.

There is not group that has been more ill-served by liberalism/leftism than American blacks.

I hope many more will catch wise to this soon.

I’m sorry for black people that the first black president is such a bust, it must be very disappointing. But the NEXT black president will probably be a conservative republican, so we’ve got that to look forward to.

With all due respect, I do not mean Herman Caine.

I guess the name could use some work. I am dating myself, but when I see Move On Up, I am thinking of the Jefferson’s Theme song, Movin’ On Up. Of course, George Jefferson was a frugal dry cleaning business owner, and he made a good life for himself and his wife Louis “Weezy” Jefferson. Can somebody put up a picture?

Prov3456,
This is the first I’ve hear of this group.
They need more publicity.
Course with the media fixated on their socialist agenda that may be difficult.
Glad you and your hubby had a wonderful time.

No such thing as an African American. Either you are an American or you are not.

Ditto. I can almost hear the theme song playing in my mind. HA. I wanted to ask someone last night, but never had the opportunity. Hopefully I’ll be able to ask one of the organizers in the future (we know several of them personally).

You're not alone; many have never heard of them.

According to the PR paper they handed out at the dinner,

"Move-On-Up.org is a social media network which was formed to create a centralized meeting place for African American conservatives to network, share ideas, and let the closet conservatives among us know that they are NOT ALONE. In two years, the network has grown to over seven hundred members in over forty states. ....

We have members in over 40 states with an age range of 18-80. Our largest demographic is members between 30-50.

Check them out on the internet (www.move-on-up.org), Twitter, Facebook, or email info[at]move-on-up.org.

Not part of the evening's presentation, but Andrew Breitbart told a couple of us that women and blacks are the two groups who will lead the American resurgence. IMO, he is correct. Let's help MOU grow: pass the word and/or get involved. Thanks!

Much of the world relegates females still to number 10 status.
Too bad as they represent at least half the worlds brain power.
Also I would bet my farm that the vast majority of members are very successful.
Good job lady.
