PERRY: WHY I SUPPORTED AL GORE...
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/61428.html ^ | 08/15/2011 | Bob King

In an interview with an Iowa radio station on Monday, the Republican presidential contender explained his role as the Gore campaign’s Texas chairman by saying that “this was Al Gore before he invented the Internet and got to be Mr. Global Warming.”

But in fact, global warming was already a significant theme for Gore in 1987 and 1988 — long before his activism led to several books, a Nobel Prize and a part in an Academy Award-winning film. It was also well before the right gave him the "Mr. Ozone" nickname and talk radio heaped endless mockery on the future vice president.

Texas is sort of conservative , made Perry fake right to keep his job all these years. But Keep in mind , Texas produced Lyndon Johnson , two Bush rino's and the rino Gov John Connally who was one front runners in 1980 , had way more money than Reagan to run on.

If they will not support Perry in the general election they are fools who deserve the hell that will descend upon America in 2012 if Obama wins a second term because of Republican Stupidity.

Might be a good idea to compare all the Candidates running, instead of comparing them to Obama...who's a complete failure..... some of which have yet to declare. Boltons considering...heck even Trumps re-thinking and there are others on the sideline...Christy might yet step up...like Perry did, denying he'll "ever" do that but then he does.

We don't know who are all the Candidates running...you're a Texan so pretty obvious you'd want your guy in for that reason alone. Hard to see the faults of "family" members or oppose them.

>>,Actually, nobody knows yet who Perry voted for in 1980 or 1984.<<

Well if he voted for Reagan both those times, then turned around and campaigned for Climate Crusader Al Gore, the man is an idiot.

[Perry] explained his role as the Gore campaign’s Texas chairman by saying that “this was Al Gore before he invented the Internet and got to be Mr. Global Warming.”
<<<<<<<<<<<

That’s a flatly untrue assertion by Rick Perry. During his Senate career in the 1980s, Al Gore was WELL KNOWN for his “enviromental activism” and for being a global warming alarmist, as well as boosting of technological and computer accomplishments. Gore claimed he invented the internet “during my service in the United States Senate”, rather than the year it had actually been invented (1969, when Gore was stil in college)

GORE’S TREE-HUGGING ACTIVISM IN THE 80s....

Gore has been involved with the environment for a number of decades. In 1976, after joining the United States House of Representatives, Gore held the “first congressional hearings on the climate change, and co-sponsored hearings on toxic waste and global warming.” He continued to speak on the topic throughout the 1980s and was known as one of the ‘Atari Democrats’, later called the “Democrats’ Greens, politicians who see issues like clean air, clean water and global warming as the key to future victories for their party.”
In 1989, while still a Senator, Gore published an editorial in the Washington Post, in which he argued:
“Humankind has suddenly entered into a brand new relationship with the planet Earth. The world’s forests are being destroyed; an enormous hole is opening in the ozone layer. Living species are dying at an unprecedented rate”.
In 1990, Senator Gore presided over a three-day conference with legislators from over 42 countries which sought to create a Global Marshall Plan, “under which industrial nations would help less developed countries grow economically while still protecting the environment.”
The Concord Monitor says that during the 1980s, Gore “was one of the first politicians to grasp the seriousness of climate change and to call for a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouses gases.

GORE BOOSTING OF BEING TECH-SAAVY IN THE 80s...

Gore had been involved with computers since the 1970s, first as a Congressman and later as Senator and Vice President, where he was a “genuine nerd, with a geek reputation running back to his days as a futurist Atari Democrat in the House. Before computers were comprehensible [...] Gore struggled to explain artificial intelligence and fiber-optic networks to sleepy colleagues.”[1] According to Campbell-Kelly and Aspray (Computer: A History of the Information Machine), up until the early 1990s public usage of the Internet was limited and the “problem of giving ordinary Americans network access had exercised Senator Al Gore since the late 1970s.”
24 Jun 1986:
Albert Gore introduce S 2594 Supercomputer Network Study Act of 1986 [4]
As a Senator, Gore began to craft the High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991 (commonly referred to as “The Gore Bill”) after hearing the 1988 report Toward a National Research Network.

Reagan wasn't holding or running for office when he was a democrate...as Perry was.

“...some of us a ready to bring Al Gore’s Texas Campaign manager from 1988 on board.”

I don’t know, this is a bombshell. Sure, you have lingering Perrybots still flailing around and drinking the Kool-Aid, but I think that when the dust settles, the truth about Perry that is coming out and will come out, is quite damning.

It just amazes me how people are willfully blind to the truth, which is staring them right in the face.

I'm not letting him play me. I am going by my personal recollection.

When he was Senator, I liked Al Gore (along with Howell Heflin, Sam Nunn and a few other Southern and Western Democrats). I didn't like them enough to support them in a general election, but they were to the right of some of our GOP Senators on several of the issues of the day.

I will look into that 1988 ACU rating though. It does surprise me.

Compared to the other Democratic candidates, Gore may have seemed like the most moderate...his opponents were Michael Dukakis, Dick Gephardt, Paul Simon, Bruce Babbitt, Jesse Jackson, and briefly Gary Hart. Gore was also the only Southerner (if Gephardt's part of Missouri doesn't count as Southern).

1988 was only 123 years after the end of the War between the States. Maybe Perry had relatives who fought or died defending Texas against Lincoln's soldiers.

I haven't decided what I think about Perry, but the fact that he was still a Democrat in 1988 does not disqualify him as far as I am concerned.

Out of curiosity, for those of you upset by this, if you were a Democrat in 1988, who would you have supported for President? Here are your choices: Michael Dukais Gary Hart Joe Biden Jesse Jackson Dick Gephart Paul Simon Al Gore

Wasn't Gary Hart out before the election, a little hottie named Jennifer Rice or something?

That’s the main thing that bugs me about Perry on this.

Actually, two things:

1 ) That he went through 8 years of Reagan, then was Al Gore’s Campaign Manager (this is enough to nuke him in my book)

2) That he lies about if and tries to rewrite history today, i.e. “this was Al Gore before he...got to be Mr. Global Warming.”

The outright lie and trying to whitewash his own history is what ought to set off warning bells in the head of every thoughtful person.

“It just amazes me how people are willfully blind to the truth, which is staring them right in the face.”

Maybe...but keep in mind that Perry has an army of paid supporters, as he’s always been financed by Big Money here in Texas and has lots of cash to play with. Obviously, I don’t know if those supporters are on this site defending him, but it would be pretty dumb if they weren’t. A lot of grass-roots people get their information from FreeRepublic, so being on this site for them would only make sense. That’s likely why it’s impossible to convince some people as to who Perry really is.

As it relates to the PMRC absolutely. Because the same laws that the PMRC were gunning for brfore dialing back to warning labels could have just as easily been applied to the Old Testament. No, that is NOT an exageration.

I grew up in that era and the PMRC had a lot to do with my political development. That witch and her cohorts had Rob Halford nearly imprisoned over song lyrics because some kid offed himself listening to a song!

Read up on Tipper and the Washington Wives and thank God every day that Zappa, Dee Snider and John Denver saved us from what that crap could have really been..
