On the Nature of the Perry Attacks
http://www.redstate.com ^ | Saturday, August 20th | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/20/2011 4:50:00 PM PDT by Para-Ord.45

Rick Perry once tried to get out of a speeding ticket.

Rick Perry once owned stock in a chain of video stores competing against Blockbuster, some of which also rented adult movies.

Rick Perry once was a Democrat.

The attacks have come fast and furious against him. But most of the attacks take on a peculiar and very telling strain.

A reporter on television or in print will utter a sentence like this, “Privately many Republican consultants suggest Rick Perry may be too Texas or shoot from the hip too much and might turn off necessary independent voters and women.”

It sounds so serious. As Alex Castellanos said on CNN the other night on John King USA, some fear Rick Perry might have “Mad Cowboy Disease.”

Let me sum this all up for you into what Rick Perry’s biggest problem is.

Whether you are talking about Alex (Team Carole Strayhorn 2006) or Karl Rove (Team Kay Bailey Hutchison 2010) or a host of other national Republican consultants, Rick Perry and his Texas team have beaten a significant portion of them.

But they did not just beat them. In many cases, Team Perry then shut the consultants who opposed him out of future business with him.

So there are scores and scores of Republican consultants who have scores to settle with Rick Perry and his team. And for guys like Karl Rove, if Perry were to win the White House, Karl and a few others would see themselves shut out of White House business for at least four years.

Rick Perry may be the only guy in America to have beaten both Karl Rove and also Obama’s own consultant, David Axelrod.

So there’s a lot of score settling in a lot of the attacks. Next time you hear some Republican consultant say Rick Perry can’t win because he is too much of a cowboy, understand that it is probably a national Republican consultant fearful they will be shut out of work if Perry wins and, more importantly, understand that the same dynamics were in place in 1980 with Reagan’s “boys from California” team of consultants and the national consultants back them said the same about Reagan — he’s too much of a cowboy conservative who will alienate key voting blocks.

That’s not to say Perry is Reagan. It is to say the GOP national consultants have been pulling the same stuff since 1980.

That’s exactly why Rove now loves Palin ... Rove has a grand design and it isn’t Socially Conservative .

Hopefully Palin understands this and isn’t buying into Rove’s hype ... I would also hope that she endorses Perry again .

Gov. Rick Perry's Remarks to the Border Summit

The whole speech. Obama couldn't have done it batter.

The truth is the people want anyone who has an ounce of common sense and who can beat Obama.

For many...that is looking like Perry!

Before Perry, I was a Palin supporter. I believe she will one day be president...but not in 2012. She is too weak in terms of experience. Yes, I know she has a great record compared to Obama's complete lack thereof...but the scales are different for Libs and Conservatives. Libs will take anyone who toes the line and Conservatives are particular.

We don't buy the bullsh!t that the Libs love! We are thinkers...and we have logical/rational standards.

That said, Perry is the guy this time. He has a long record and tons of experience. Sarah will make a great Sec of Interior. She's next, but this is not her time.

JMHO!

i know you are a TRUE conservative American patriot.
you know i’ve read and ADMIRED your posts in the past.

Reagan and Bachmann were also once Democrats.
i haven’t seen ANYONE make an issue of that.
...that’s a straw man argument.

(but, i do care that he campaigned for AL GORE,
and endorses Guiliani, comparing him to Reagan.
that shows poor judgement, as does Gardasil.)

but seriously, is there NOTHING that Perry does or says,
that bothers you the slightest ???

Perry speaking at La Raza or Islamic gatherings?
(CAIR Houston
“The Muslim community has a significant number of political conservatives, and they do support Perry,” said Mustafaa Carroll, executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations in Houston, “)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2764459/posts?page=4#4

Fethullah Gulen, dubbed “the most dangerous Islamist on planet earth,” builds Islamist schools in Texas, with TAXPAYER money, and it doesn’t bother you ?

Muslims are KILLING our troops in the name of ISLAM,
and C.A.I.R. SUPPORTS Perry, and it doesn’t bother you?

pro-Amnesty for illegals? Texas “DREAM” Act?
someone breaks our law, enters illegally, LIES to join our MILITARY, and Perry wants to reward them ?
TEXAS TAXPAYERS pay 17 BILLION a year for illegals,
and Perry wants to give them amnesty,
and it doesn’t bother you ?

Palin proudly admits she is an evangelical creationist.
Perry DECEIVES a child’s question, to avoid “losing votes”,
because he’s ashamed to show the same courage Palin did.

WHO needs to “man up” and have the courage of their faith?
(besides, an evangelical who PRAISES Islam, and quotes from the Quran, when it specifically denies that Jesus is the son of God? there is NO common ground with Islam !!!)

So WHY do you want Perry so badly?
if another candidate was IDENTICAL in record,
you’d honestly ignore all of this?

again, i KNOW you are a TRUE patriot.

America needs someone to:
1) CUT SPENDING,
2) SECURE THE BORDER,
3) DEFEND US AGAINST ISLAM AND SHARIA.

so WHY the blinders for Perry ?
and why do you attack fellow conservatives,
who have honest questions about someone who is a pro-Amnesty big goverment politician, who C.A.I.R. supported!

Again, context. That was August 2001, what has happened since? Well, we don’t know because you have selected a freeze frame out of history and it is out of context. I could freeze frame history to show that Bachmann worked for Carter, but what has happened since? Well, she got the word and changed. This game can be played endlessly.

Maybe that's the truth in your world, but Free Republic is a conservative forum, so we're looking for the best "conservative" to beat Obama and Governor Perry is just now being vetted.

Seems to me that his biggest hurdle (should he win the nomination after the Marathon Primary Season) would be whether the electorate at large would be ready to send another Texas Governor to the White House only 4 short years after President Bush....?

Gov. Perry Announces TEF Investment in Solar Power Company

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced the state will invest $1 million through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) in HelioVolt Corp. of Austin for the construction of a 125,000 square foot manufacturing facility and development space to test and produce the company’s thin-film solar power cells, which convert sunlight into electricity. The deal will create nearly 160 jobs and $62 million in capital investment.

HelioVolt Corp. puts off growth. Plant is ready but demand not there yet

After months of stealthy operations, solar cell maker HelioVolt Corp. has delayed by two years its job creation projections.

Gov. Rick Perry: Wind Energy Keeps Texas' Air Clean and Our Future Bright

Texas doesn't just believe in the potential of wind energy, we are reaping its benefits already. People who talk about wind energy as a technology of the future clearly haven't been to West Texas lately: the future of wind energy in Texas is now. I probably don't need to spend too much time talking about the benefits of wind energy to a bunch of people who specialize in this remarkable technology, but a few things really stand out for me. I am proud that our state's installed wind generation capacity leads the nation, a place we did not reach by accident.

(snip)

Just last year, nearly $3 billion worth of wind-powered electric generators were installed, twice as much as any other state. This addition of more than 1,600 megawatts of capacity bumped up our total wind capacity by 59 percent. And the hits keep on coming. For example, this afternoon, one of the world's largest manufacturers of alternative energy equipment is announcing a new research facility here in Houston. And I recently got word that Hill Country Wind Power has acquired the Wind Turbine Company and is moving their manufacturing operations from Bellevue, Washington to the Lone Star state. With progress like this, I am confident we'll hit the next milestone, 10,000 megawatts, or 10% of our current capacity, well before the deadline in 2025.

Heheh...are you saying I am a newbie?

As a long time lurker, I have you at a disadvantage.

I know you (I know your husband is a psychiatrist).

Don't be a bully. You don't own conservatism...FR doesn't own it either.

All that said, I have always had great respect for you and your opinion matters greatly to me and many other lurkers.

As for Perry, he isn't new to me. I know his positions and his tenacity. He has infinitely more experience than Sarah.

I know you are wise...I remember your input back in the Natalee Hollaway threads. I am humbled to be able to speak with you.

I hear ya... I just don’t think we need to settle for a poser. There are better candidates, but Perry is sucking up the spotlight. Flashy, but not much substance there.

I’ve heard fellow Texans say, paraphrasing, “We know he’s an empty suit, but he’s OUR empty suit.” Ick.

I am a Palin supporter too, and like Sarah Palin, I also like Perry, overall anyway. He does have more warts than Sarah but not enough to toss him out. I am puzzled that so many Palin supporters are so willing to use the same tactics to bash Perry as the anti palin’s use to bash Sarah.

But it doesn’t really matter, the election will take its course no matter what happens here at FR, it always has and it always will.

Texas Halal Law Signing Ceremony with Governor Rick Perry

Halal food, is PART of Sharia law.

the food is killed, after a prayer to ALLAH.
it is meat sacrificed in the NAME of Allah.

this should be on the label of ALL halal meat,
because many Christians believe it is wrong,
to eat food sacrificed in the name of another god!

And I hear you...if Perry hits an unrecoverable bump in the road, I am back to square one.

I love Sarah, but we have got to win this thing or the country is DONE!

BTW, I do believe Sarah will be president eventually...if the country is still here.

Well, I am not going to get into a pissing match with you, I have looked at Perry’s record, good, bad, and ugly, and have decided that the good outweighs the bad and the ugly. You have decided otherwise, so be it. The point of my original post is that anyone can be selectively bashed You have responded with selective bashing, oh well.
