White House unveils plans to trim regs, save at least $10 billion
The Hill ^ | August 23, 2011 | Erik Wasson

The Obama administration on Tuesday announced plans to streamline hundreds of regulations across all government departments and said that the review will “likely” save at least $10 billion over five years.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), however, called the effort "underwhelming." The regulatory review does not address the kinds of major items the GOP would like to eliminate, such as those associated with the Dodd-Frank financial reform, the Obama healthcare reform or a raft of new environmental regulations, including the possible regulation of greenhouse gases.

[snip] Cass Sunstein, the chief of regulations at the Office of Management and Budget noted the most significant changes, saving some $4 billion over five years, come from the Department of Labor, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation.

[snip]The DOL change will simplify hazard warnings, saving $2.5 billion, while the Transportation Department is relaxing rules on railroads.

[snip]Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), who is leading the Senate GOP's fight against regulations, said that the Obama initiative is insufficient given the tide of new rules. "Since the start of the year, the administration has proposed more than 340 regulations at a cost of more than $65 billion to job creators. It is important to note that these are only the regulations for which the administration actually conducted an economic analysis. For hundreds more, it has regulated blindly, with no cost or job numbers associated with its rules," he said.

[snip] Responding to the criticism, Sunstein told reporters that $10 billion in savings is very significant. [snip] He said that the administration is implementing Dodd-Frank and healthcare reform in a way that is sensitive to costs

Wow, what is that, a couple of pennies for each company? Does Fool Sucka think that’s going to get businesses hiring again?

I do believe that we are spending about $10 billion per day. So he has found a way to save one day's spending over the next 1826 days, 0.05476%.

OH goody. Why didn't they say $200 billion over the next 100 years, or $2 trillion over the next millennium? I think there should be a law that all budgetary figures must be reported on in annual terms.

I’ve got an idea where they can save 400K annually.

$10 billion...

Now there’s a person with a twisted sense of humor. And why not, they’re a twisted individual fronting for a twisted president.

It was reported early in the month that the Obama administration implemented 608 new regulations in July.

Quite honestly, I have no idea how we survived before July, 2011. It is simply amazing how I grew up without those regulations and made it to adulthood intact. I never even had a bicycle helmet, or for that matter, I grew up playing hockey without a helmet. At least I didn't look like Obama riding his bike. What a wuss!

Obozo and Company, would be taken seriously if every federal regulation since 2008 was eliminated. It would set the stage for 2012, when Republicans can then get serious (like that is going to happen) and eliminate all federal regulations going back to 1976.

This is classic Obama. Regulations cost nearly $2T a year http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2707438/posts
and Obama plans to trim this by $2B. That’s 1/10 of one percent.

It’s like Obama’s laughable efforts to cut $100 million from the budget back in 2009. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/20/AR2009042000641.html

This guy is in WAY over his head.

"The Obama administration on Tuesday announced plans to streamline hundreds of regulations across all government departments and said that the review will “likely” save at least $10 billion over five years."

Basically, we're going to just let the Justice Department, ATF and FBI do whatever they want in coming up with new ways to fight crime. They no longer need express permission to just think up amazing plans and put them into action.

Oh, wait.

Trim a few billion in regs here, while over there in the EPA the Gov't is loading 100's of billions on in other regs.

And what's with the easing of regs for trains? Trains is the area where unions are poised to take over.

None of these were in place under Bush.

So the GOP didn’t cut any regulations when it was in power? Not to help them, the left, or most importantly, America?

Federal budget is $3.5 Trillion. So $2billion per year is about .00057 of the budget. microscopic
