Governor Perry's Islam Connection
American Thinker ^ | September 3, 2011 | Amil Imani

The news of Governor Rick Perry jumping into the Republican nomination race for president released a media tsunami that assaulted my brain. In no time at all, people came up with a long list of negatives about him. In a democracy, honest and thorough scrutiny of anyone's records seeking a public office is not only the prerogative of the electorate, but its duty.

Being a lifelong critic of Islam, red flags popped up in my head at Perry's purported cozy relationship with Islam and prompted me to look very closely at the governor's record on this particular issue and at this specific time.

[snip]

The nuggets of the Muslim history curriculum Perry helped coordinate in Texas are summarized below. It says:

1. Countries of Western Civilization have secular governments, which means great toleration of cultural and religious differences.

2. Countries of Islamic Civilization for the most part either have religiously dominated governments or demands to make them more religious, which means less toleration of cultural and religious differences.

3. Muslims often lack respect for Western traditions and points of view. The Muslim relationship to the West is colored by the belief that Western beliefs [whether Christian or atheist] are defective and therefore inferior to Islam.

No matter how I tried, I couldn't reach the conclusion that this inclusion promotes Islam or is pro-Sharia. It seems that the mere fact that Islam is included in the curriculum represents supporting it.

And with regard to the concern that the education curriculum Perry promoted is pro-Arab and against Israel, the evidence is exactly the opposite. The lesson on Israel reads:

[snip]

Criticism flew Rick Perry's way fast and furiously and from all directions. Here, Alana Goodman in Commentary bats a big one down......

Thank you for your reply and the link. As for curriculum, there is nothing indicating whether the “Lesson Plan” as posted by Stein is being used in lieu of the curriculum liked by Geller. Unless we hear from someone involved in the classroom, there is no way to know what is taught. I find disturbing the curricula linked by Gellar. However, using the curricula to label Perry pro-Islamist suggests an anti-Perry bias. I know not if Perry is aware of the curricula linked by Geller nor if Perry responded to the curricula by having the lesson plan posted by Stein implemented. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter because Perry is the most electable “conservative” candidate. Those truly concerned about Islamic tendencies would be well advised to stay out of the weeds and focus on the real peril, the re-election of the most anti-Israel pro-Muslim president. This nation is in peril. Sometimes the “perfect” must be sacrificed on the alter of the “better.” If one sees no difference between Perry and Barry, then my argument is pointless.

I can remember a time when the Lamestream Media came out with a slam dunk connection between Sarah Palin and an African Witch Doctor from Kenya, complete with videotaped proof of him standing over her in ritualistic grandeur with people holding her to the ground, while casting a spell against the evil eye and to raise funds for her campaign...the only thing lacking was a bone in his nose, half naked in a grass skirt.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwkb9_zB2Pg

It was easy to find information that Rev. Muthee is an ordained Christian minister in Africa, whose work is supported by her church in Alaska. And in fact, Rev. Muthee has a record of having cast ‘out’ witches in his church community.

I also remember Freepers going bat spit hysterical in her defense, even though the many on here are professed non-believers. MY HOW THINGS CAN CHANGE IN A HEARTBEAT. Especially in the face of the fact that she hasn’t even declared a candidacy, and Rick Perry has.

I stand in amazement and amusement of the willingness of those that will pick up the same bucket of democratic garbage and gossip against Rick Perry and put it out here and argue it as the TRUTH! Even though Texans have stood by his conservative record, again, BECAUSE Rick Perry has the same record of PROVEN SUCCESS in his state for going on ten years as Sarah Palin had in her three.

Aga Khan has been doing business in Texas since long before Rick Perry came on the scene for about 50 years now. He’s one of the very fewest Muslims, maybe the only one, on the planet who has invested his personal fortune into educating his people up out of their ignorance and control of their dogma. Especially on issues of women’s rights, including women’s health and careers.

Thank you Cincinnati’s Wife for keeping a cool and honest head and helping set the record straight for our governor.

I’m going to be following this issue closely from here on out. That curricula is very disturbing to me. I’ve been willing to cut Perry some slack on the Ismaili rapproachment, but if that curricula is something that has been cooked up in the bowels of the education establishment *and* actually implemented in Texas, I have a big problem with Perry.

And I have an even bigger problem with this primary season because as the only other Republican I can envision beating Obama, Romney may actually have to be under consideration by me. That makes me angry. Very angry.

You make good points. A person in high political office must meet hundreds of people every week, and give them a photo op as well. If Perry would not receive visiting dignitaries, like the Aga Khan, and be civil to them, there would be something wrong with him.

It may very well be that, before this campaign is over, Rick Perry will have done or said something that causes me to rethink my support for him. But seeing pictures of him with people we don’t like isn’t convincing at all. I mean, it’s like showing a photo of Ronald Reagan with Gorbachev to imply he was a commie-lover.

Who is the conservative candidate, or potential candidate? Oh that is right, I have asked you that already and all I got was crickets. You can tell me who is a RINO but you cannot tell me who is NOT a RINO and explain why, your credibilty is zero.

Amen to that. What a spectacle it has been here.

>> Am I missing something? Is there a credible refutation of the poits found in the article?

Yes you are. The article indicates a naïve attitude about Islam. Let’s look at just a small sample of what their holy book demands of all Muslims.

Have no unbelieving friends. Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them. 4:89

When you fight with disbelievers, do not retreat. Those who do will go to hell. 8:15-16

Those that the Muslims killed were not really killed by them. It was Allah who did the killing. 8:17

Those that the Muslims killed were not really killed by them. It was Allah who did the killing. 8:17

Fight the disbelievers! Allah is on your side; he will give you victory. 9:12-14

The "Religion of Truth" (Islam) must prevail, by force if necessary, over all other religions. 9:33

Fight the disbelievers and hypocrites. Be harsh with them. They are all going to hell anyway. 9:73

Fight disbelievers who are near you, and let them see the harshness in you. 9:123

If you refuse to fight for Allah, he will punish you with a painful doom. 48:16

Those aren’t for just the “radical Muslims” as some would try to get us to believe. All Muslims must adhere to those edicts. While there are those Muslims who have not actively engaged in Jihad they will when their numbers and influence are sufficient in any society. It’s the concept of colonization that works to increase their numbers in societies until they have sufficient influence.

It’s naïve at best to think any Muslim inclusion in a free society is non threatening.

Then look at this statement from the article. Notice the word “obligation”.

Ismailis also owe allegiance to their countries as a fundamental obligation.

Who knows. More like a Paulistinian. I’d vote for Palin over Perry in a heart beat. When it gets down to the nitty gritty I’m voting for whomever opposes the great zero.

From the Stein article: “...certain minorities within Islam have developed a non-literalist, even allegorical, approach to reading the Qur’an. Foremost among these moderates are the Isma`ilis, the Sevener Shi`is, whose global head is the philanthropical Aga Khan. Isma’ilis may number only in the tens of millions (out of the total Muslim community of some 1.3 billion, second only to Christianity’s 2+ billion), but they do exist and they define, for example, jihad not as killing or conquering unbelievers, but as economic development and charity work.”

These are the moderate Muslims the West needs to offer an alternative to radical, terrorist Islam. Perry was drawn to the moderates and recognized the moderates offer compatibility with Christians in civil life.
