Perry became a millionaire while serving in office
Star-Telegram ^ | Aug. 28, 2011 | Aman Batheja

Since his first race for office more than a quarter century ago, Gov. Rick Perry has emphasized his roots as a rural farmer.

Yet Perry's bank account no longer reflects those humble beginnings as his bottom line has soared in recent years, records show, thanks largely to a handful of real estate deals that critics allege were achieved through the presidential candidates's political connections.

Seems I read about them here and they were linked to news paper stories, so what do you think. The former republican speaker good 200 million to build a road to a farm that he forgot and recorded in his wife's name.

"Yeah, so did Obama. Big deal."

That was my very first thought.

I would think that a competent crony-capitalist would have accumulated more than a million or two by his 60’s. These days, you need at least a million or two in order to retire into a middle-class standard of living.

One reason why people stay in politics is to get rich and to live rich. High office puts you close to men with money and you catch whatever diseases they bear.

Governor Perry is a conservative leader who values common sense solutions and he knows what it takes to create jobs and to grow an economy and help communities thrive. He's got the results to prove it.

Precisely why Governor Perry is going to be the next President of the United States.

Sarah has not thrown her hat in the ring yet.

When she does, I'll support her.

Until then, I'm supporting anyone, not bambi, for the office of President.

I'm not gonna tear up a candidate for a....NON-Candidate.

Governments do not create jobs, businessmen create jobs, the government takes the businessman's and his workers money and redistribute it to their supporters and to grow government. Anyone that thinks government creates jobs is well on their way to socialism.

“Perry has attributed the gain to a favorable market for Hill Country land.”

Heavens. Outrageous RE profits in the early 00’s.
That is REALLY unusual. Was it a Rezko style shady deal? Were there other similar profits for other investors? Let me save you some Goggle time. No and yes.

Not defending this guy, but for cripes sake, I’ve known a LOT of people who made out this well, and most often because of connections. Name anyone in either party who hasn’t.

My own hero Sarah Palin is FAR richer today than when she went to the convention, no?

This is getting both ridiculous. And embarrassing and if we don’t stop this horse shit we’ll see Obama in office for four more years. I wonder how much opposition research is being done right here right now by the Obamamaniacs?

We don’t have a perfect candidate.

“Texas Democrats have repeatedly questioned the sale over the years...” while not churning out false reports for the news organizations and Dan Rather.

WTF, FReepers? Seriously, are you going to ignore RR completely?

The Eleventh Commandment - Ronald Reagan during his 1966 campaign for Governor of California:

“Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.”

I used to do it. I’ve grown up a lot, though, politically speaking, thanks to fellow FReepers.

This shit needs to stop. If and when she runs, SP has my back, I know and I’ll have hers. Until then, I will pledge to take RR’s advice.

Of course, he DID make a couple of lousy Judge picks. Hey, maybe he wasn’t so hot after all...

Using your political position to make money is morally wrong.

Otherwise known as “I’m for sale.”

Here’s the bottom line: he’s better than Romney, who is his only real current competition. I’d like it if Palin got the nomination, but am perfectly willing to live with Perry.

Anyone that thinks government creates jobs is well on their way to socialism.

Oops. I forgot the quotation marks. I was quoting Sarah Palin in a speech when she was campaigning for Rick Perry.

"Governor Perry is a conservative leader who values common sense solutions and he knows what it takes to create jobs and to grow an economy and help communities thrive. He's got the results to prove it. Balancing the budget time after time. He's the only governor since World War 2 to cut general revenue spending - more than once. He reduced taxes for 40,000 small businesses and he vetoed over $3 billion dollars in spending."

Yep. The politicians go to Washington as paupers, but retire as multimillionaires. Every one of them uses us tax payers as slave labor.
They take 50% of our wages through some kind of tax or government fee, and then go shopping for votes and luxuries for themselves.
They give absolutely nothing back to the hands that feed them.

So why did St Sarah endorse Perry?

You're seriously saying she endorsed him for President?

Or are you just pretending she did, in a sleazy, dishonest, sneaky way?

She didn't use her public office to get it though, since she holds no public office.
