Hoffa: “No Regrets” Over Speech Calling For Violence Against Conservatives, This Is a “War”…

Thug.

(TPM) — Teamsters union president James Hoffa would say it all again if he could, he told TPM Monday.

Hoffa riled up Fox News and the right wing Monday with a Labor Day speech in Detroit in which he called Republican members of Congress “sons of bitches” and said union workers are ready to “go to war” with the tea party next year and “take out” Republicans at the ballot box.

Hoffa said he’d say the exact same words all over again.

“I would because I believe it,” he said. “They’ve declared war on us. We didn’t declare war on them, they declared war on us. We’re fighting back. The question is, who started the war?”

“take out” Republicans at the ballot box

Only he didn't say the last four words.

The ballot box was never mentioned; that was some helpful editor trying to put a gloss on the whole thing.

I have also seen it misquoted “we are going to take them,” with no “out,” to make it sound a little less menacing. The media spin machine is working overtime on this one.

Meanwhile, silence from the Community Organizer.

I recall that the woman who spoke at Obama’s inauguration - Barbara Boxer, IIRC - specifically mentioned that she wanted people to take note that “The world witnessed a PEACEFUL transition of power”. IMMEDIATELY, I could think of nothing more than as if that was foreshadowing. It seemed to me that Boxer was setting things up and implying that the next time the transfer of power would NOT be peaceful...

Maybe it’s just my hyper-sensitive “radar”, but it’s given me the “willies” ever since just thinking about what she said. It’s one of two things I remember clearly from the inauguration - her comment on transfer of power, and Barack screwing up the Oath of Office, of course... Anytime I hear the rhetoric about this upcoming election that memory pops into my head... EVERY time.

I really, really don’t want to be correct. However, the marxists and opportunists in their ranks are not stupid - oh, how I wish they were. They’ve been building up to this for decades now, and something’s got to give.

http://provocativechristian.wordpress.com/2009/01/23/provocative-bible-verses-turn-the-other-cheek/

““But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also” Matthew 5:39

Many people want to bypass these provocative words from Jesus because they seem to imply that we are to allow people to just beat the tar out of us and not resist physical violence and injury. Having a sense of what I think Jesus really meant by these words causes me to wonder at how easily we get deceived into believing that it means something that is impossible to obey. God does not give us commands that are impossible to obey. He certainly gives us ones that are difficult and that challenge us but never ones that are impossible.

In order to understand what God wants of us, it is important to catch key details. Anytime the Bible gives a particularly vivid detail we need to pay attention. There is a vivid key detail in this verse that speaks volumes. Jesus said, if someone “strikes you on the right cheek” then you are to turn your face to him in such a way as to present your left cheek. The implication being that he may hit you again. What is the significance of the “right” cheek. Why not the left cheek? Picture someone getting hit on the right cheek. What is the most likely way for that to happen? Since most people are right handed and would hit someone with the right hand, then the only way for them to hit someone on the right cheek is to do it as a backhanded slap. What Jesus is speaking about here is not letting someone pummel you into a pile of broken bones. Rather He is talking about taking an insult. I backhanded slap is just that. It is an insult that challenges you to retaliate. It is an attempt to shame you and get you to either back down in utter humiliation or lash out and escalate the conflict.

To turn the other cheek is neither humiliating nor retaliation. It is rather a response of strength that says, “I will not seek revenge because I am stronger than that”. It also says, I will not respond in shame because I have dignity in Christ. My dignity is not found in if I can hit you back and hurt you. My dignity is found in Christ and I will respond in just the way He would respond.

In practice there are very few times in ones life when another person would give you an actual backhanded slap. There are times when they might give you a verbal one, or show great disrespect for you in some other way. It is those things that get people all worked up and excited. Think of how often you see people arguing and fighting because someone “disrespected” them. What they are looking for is dignity. They want an acknowledgement that they are a person of substance and importance. If someone does not give them that respect then they feel somehow violated. The means to get that respect and dignity is to exert power over the other person and show that you are stronger, better, more significant than they are. So instead of turning the other cheek, you strike back, preferably with even more force. If that is what you need to do to get respect and dignity then you will never have it.

Our dignity comes because we are made in the image of God. Our significance comes because we are called by Jesus to be world changers. Our power and strength comes because we are filled with the Holy Spirit who gives us the ability to receive the insults of others and respond with as Christ responded to those who hurled insults at Him.

Black athletes who broke the color barrier in professional sports understood this. People like Jackie Robinson knew that they would face insult after insult. Those insults were intended to humiliate and incite an even more violent response. The hope was that such a response would then justify the impression of the black man as out of control and uncivilized. But when the response was a quiet dignity that came from within it changed the world. Racial barriers began to fall and reconciliation started to take place.

It is no different for Christians. When we respond to insults with the same kind of vindictiveness then we affirm for the world that Christianity is a shame. But when we respond in quiet dignity, drawing on the power of Christ, we provoke a response of respect and wonder and we compel people to want to learn more about Jesus. Turning the other cheek is not impossible, but it is difficult. But when we do respond with the gentle dignity of Jesus, then we bring glory to Him.”

I go to bed last night thinking that what was said in Detroit was about it. Oh well, this greets me after I had gotten up and had my first cup of coffee.

Here’s what I’m wondering... There are two versions I have heard on video - the second at ABC after I posted above.

One, from FOX did not include any of the lines regarding “Jobs, Jobs, Jobs” etc... and didn’t include the mention of “everyone has a vote”. Another I watched over at ABC-News included the lines I briefly mentioned above.

Is it true that FOX “edited” the speech? I know what the Leftists are trying to spin this as. Even if he DID refer to voting, anytime a union Pres. talks about “taking someone out” they are NOT talking about a “vote” taking place. I fully agree that he is attempting to incite violence. However, if FOX did edit portions of the speech, I’m not too happy about that either - there’s no excuse for that, IMHO. If they did edit it, there should have been a clear break...

As I said, I see his statements as exactly what they are - he wasn’t kidding when he talked of war. I’m here in WI, so I KNOW what these people are like. It’s just that it’s going to be hard to convince people of that when we’ve been done a disservice by the media when they edited out some of the context (if they did). It’s hard enough “debating” with liberals, but now they’ll turn it ALL into “FOX news edited it, he said nothing like that, etc...” and they will have a nice convenient talking point to minimize the outrage among Conservatives...

I think Fox reported on the things that were unusual about the speech. The “jobs, jobs, jobs” stuff was pretty standard issue and I doubt that anyone would have reported much on the Hoffa speech (he was just the warm-up act) had he not said those outrageous words. So I don’t think it was “editing” it to make it look worse, but simply editing it the way a news organization (theoretically) does, in other words, to highlight the most interesting part of something. Maybe we could say more accurately that the left-wing press edited it by leaving out those words whenever they thought they could get away with it.

I don’t think the Dems can deny that Hoffa was fomenting a thug mentality, something that is always just under the surface with unions, particularly the Teamsters, who are famous for the violence of their strikes and “negotiations.”

Thug.

Actually, Hoffa isn't really being a thug here. He's being a craven opportunist.

The thugs are the folks in his audience - the ones this kind of nonsense actually appeals to. It really should be pointed out that Hoffa is demeaning and belittling his OWN MEMBERSHIP as thugs by saying this kind of cr*p. I'd call those Teamster members troglodytes (vice thugs), but I know that they would neither understand the meaning of the work or have the notion that they should go look it up in a dictionary cross their minds.

The percentage of private sector workers in unions fell to 6.9 percent, down from 7.2 percent, the lowest rate for private sector workers in more than a century, labor historians said.

This jerk doesn’t know what war is. Organize, conservatives. Organize, Tea Party

What amazes me is that the tea party is simply a group of people who have organized and are telling the gov't enough is enough! The dems are trying to make people think we are some crazy, terroristic flash mob. Nothing can be further from the truth. We have the right to free speech and the right to assemble. Go Tea Party!

They want war? are they sure? Then they can bring it. It’s about time anyway.

Knowing your typical rank and file goonion thug, they are most likely out in the parking lot on one of many scheduled coffee breaks chugging booze and getting high. Winning a battle against them is easy and you shouldn't even need guns - for the report might awaken some of their more industrious out of their drunken stupor.

Anybody who needs the Mafia to threaten and intimidate someone in order to secure a sinecureship for themselves is not someone to be afraid of - they are in need of your pity.
