Congress expands Fast and Furious probe to White House
Los Angeles Times ^ | Sept. 09, 2011 | Richard A. Serrano

Congressional investigators reviewing the failed gun-tracking program Operation Fast and Furious have formally asked the Obama administration to turn over copies of "all records" involving three key White House national security officials and the program, other ATF gun cases in Phoenix, and all communications between the White House and the ATF field office in Arizona.

The letter signed Friday by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Vista), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Sen. Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, was sent to National Security Advisor Thomas E. Donilon, a top aide to President Obama.

It marks a significant step in the committee's investigation into the failed gun-tracking operation, as the committee begins to broaden its investigation from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and targets White House and Department of Justice officials.

I thought he was referring to Howard Baker.

I want to know what the president knew and when he knew it.

...can’t you imagine Odumbo taking AF1 and running out to CA and saying he isn’t coming back until after the investigation is completed...that’s what RATS do...run and hide.

If they want the leaders, all they have to do is ask any underling in the right circumstances and he’ll say who his boss is. You can’t exactly hide your identity when you have 10,000 employees. The ATF motive was to undermine the second amendment.

Moreover, if the purpose was to "track the movement" of the weapons, why were no arrangements made to "track the movement"?

It is a fact that one of the ATF agents bought two tracking devices out of his own pocket at Radio Shack, trying to overcome this rather pronounced (and puzzling) shortcoming in the "plan". Unfortunately, the batteries gave out before the devices could support any "tracking".

It is patently obvious that the stated purpose of the exercise was not its real purpose.

“...The cartels are multi-billion dollar enterprises. ...”

And since they can have ANYTHING they want, why in the hell would they bother with semi-automatic stuff when they can afford fully automatic military grade weapons from ANYWHERE in the world?

It’s laughable to think they’d waste time with civilian versions of these weapons when they can get them anywhere south of their own borders.

You are entirely correct; this was Obama and HOlder’s attempt to circumvent and undermine the Second Amendment, with ATF as their willing shoeshine boys. And probably some of the other alphabet agencies as well.

Obama signed a recent executive order in July, It seems to give more power to Holder and the DOJ,

...Under the new strategy, the Justice Department and the FBI would appear to have heightened roles in the government's effort to tackle transnational threats. The National Security Council has long been the lead agency in targeting transnational threats during the Clinton and Bush administrations, and will retain a prime role, helping to oversee combined law enforcement, intelligence and military agencies. Holder said his department would press to update anti-racketeering laws and extend other statutes to combat money laundering, arms trafficking, cybercrime and intellectual property offenses.

Something doesn't seem right about the timing of this, given Holders role in the ATF scandal. I don't know if allows confiscation of assets.

Locks are for honest people. The only way Issa and Grassley will get anything real from this administration is if they drag everybody (including Obama and Holder on down to the lowliest secretary and janitor) out of those offices in handcuffs, seal off the whole thing as a crime scene, and confiscate everything in that office including the computers. Until that happens, they’ll just keep lying, obfuscating, and shredding.

When people begin to realize that, they will comprehend that every day these men are NOT arrested is another day they are able to wreak havoc on a nation already at critical mass. Surgery is not a radical or violent action when cancer is eating a body alive; it is critical and the doctor who refuses to do what needs to be done is negligent.

It’s hard to get rid of all the evidence. Nobody DREAMED that Nixon would have been stupid enough to surreptitiously record all his meetings and phonecalls.

“And since they can have ANYTHING they want, why in the hell would they bother with semi-automatic stuff when they can afford fully automatic military grade weapons from ANYWHERE in the world?”

I recall reading that one of the cartels had bought shipping containers full of full-auto Chinese AK-47’s. Also, an attack two years ago on a Mexican navy base used full-auto guns, grenades and mortars as well as up-armored trucks. It does seem peculiar that cartels would use civilian versions of lesser capable guns. The fact that they might seems to fit the mindset of people here who had the anti-gun America’s-at-fault agenda foremost in their heads.

Gunwalker was to get traceable weapons into the hands of the cartels,....Gunwalker was an attempt, under Bush, to find the extent of the guns going to Mexico. They had GPS or something in them and found there was NO Iron Pipeline into Mexico. A few shotguns (for hunting, defense, etc.) and a few pistols for defense sent to your uncle, dad, whatever. Gunwalker was effectively dismantled when Bush retired. Obama and his DOJ started it back up, enhanced and hoped to undermine the 2nd Amendment with it and tell everyone “IT’s Bush’s fault.”

Remember Cops will stop at nothing to bring to justice the killer of a brother LEO and Agent Terry was a brother. This is personal to the honest, dedicated career LEOs that this administration forced to participate in illegal activities for Fast and Furious and they are not going to let this slide.

Well said.

And as this unfolds other LEOs will be having an "ah ha" moment ...connecting the dots...and dusting off a few files.

I’m hoping you are right about Issa. I have wondered if this is the case, or is he so naive as to think that all the documentation would be handed over.

This could be a very good trap.
