I mentioned this on another thread, but would just like to reiterate it here.

My former assemblyman, Dov Hikind, was absolutely pivotal to this result.

People associate him with Borough Park, but he had people all over the Brooklyn portion of the 9th, Marine Park, Midwood, even Flatlands I think, stumping for Turner.

He did more than any of the so-called leaders in the Brooklyn Republican Party. Much more.

Congratulations on a magnificent victory from this former Northeasterner (Connecticut) now stranded in the wilderness of NW Illinois. Maybe there is hope yet. The Northeast (and even NYC!!!) has the best delis, the only edible pizza which is often outright wonderful and now even an election victory in a district formerly held by Emmanuel Celler, Elizabeth Holtzman and Schmuckie Chewmer! This can only be topped in November, 2012. May you and yours be blessed!

When was the time the GOP won this district?

Laura Ingraham said the 1920s.

Our cable went out last night so I couldn't stay on the thread, but I heard on Fox that they had called it for Turner.

SUCH GREAT NEWS!! How's the left spinning it today to pretend it's not a referendum on stinky Obama??

There are a lot of Orthodoz Jews in Brooklyn including large Chasidic populations.

No way they voted for Obama in 2008. And those who did will likely not again.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned, but it used to be said that Queens had more Israelis than Tel Aviv.

Congratulations NY-9 & NV-2! Well done!

Notice when Dems flipped NY-26 it was declared a bell weather. The Tea Party was finished. The Reagan Tent in Upper New York had blown away, said James Carville.

Brooklyn flips to Republicans for the first time since 1923? NY-9 was tough turf for Democrats! /s

Neither 2010 nor 2011 were flukes. They were game-changers. 2012 will not be an election either. It will be a restraining order. You damned dirty politicians...GET YOUR DAMNED HANDS OFF OF OUR CONSTITUTION!

Nationally, it was a good night for Republicans. We picked up NY-9 and NV-2. Sadly, the national tide did not help three Assembly races here. Most commentary on NY-9 by non-New Yorkers will come from people who don’t even know about the assembly races, one of which was in a district that overlaps Turner’s.

You're right, I didn't know there were Assembly races also going on in NY.

I think I "feel your pain", rmlew... while conservatives were celebrating the mid-term elections of 2010, my state - The People's Republik of Connecticut - elected more 'RATs including the smarmy Sen. Dick Blumenthal and socialist union thug 'RAT Gov. Dannel Malloy.

We did gain a few GOP seats in our legislature, though. My former state rep. was one of the most outrageously liberal socialists in the state. It was a close race, but she's been replaced by a Tea Party-sympathetic Republican - great guy.

The former 'RAT state rep. tried all kinds of shenanigans to try and keep her seat, including screaming at the top of her lungs in one town hall in the district demanding a recount. Gotta love it when these Socialists lose their power! :-)

I actually spoke too soon. The GOP kind of, sort of, on a NY way only half won one of the assembly races in Brooklyn. In the 54th Assembly District, Rafael Espinal ran and a Democrat and Republican. Deidra Towns, the daughter of the local congressman Ed Town, and the sister of Darryl C. Towns, who had represented the 54th AD. There was also a Working Families Party-backed Jesus Gonzalez. Of course, Espinal will be seated as a Democrat.

I'm still astounded that people voted for Blumenthal.

I'd prefer seppuku, but its a start.

I suspect they're in for a long night

They weren't. Even the left-wing, Democrat Party supporting, “in the tank for Obama” AP, called it for Turner in pretty quick time. This is why I started off by asking you how much you wanted to bet on your statement that “Unfortunately, this one is close enough to steal. So steal it, they will.” (post # 280)
Unsurprisingly, you were wrong on every count.

Yeah, and as I said, I was glad to be wrong. May every election in 2012 go down like this one with the pro-family conservative beating the democrat by a wide margin in democrat districts.

Being right on every minute point is not something that keeps me awake at night.
