Perry: "I Don't Think You Have a Heart" If You Oppose In-State Tuition for Children of Illegal

Full title: Perry: "I Don't Think You Have a Heart" If You Oppose In-State Tuition for Children of Illegal Immigrants

Perry's response was forceful and personal. "I don't think you have a heart," Perry told his critics.

"If you say that we should not educate children who come into our state for no other reason than that they've been brought their through no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart," Perry said. "We need to be educating these children because they will become a drag on our society. I think that's what Texans wanted to do. Out of 181 members of the Texas legislature when this issue came up [there were] only four dissenting votes. This was a state issue. Texas voted on it. And I still support it today."

I guess you’re not aware that the video is at the link, and we can see for ourselves exactly what Perry said, and why he was such a disaster.

Do you think the children of illegals should be allowed to pay less tuition than a legal U.S. citizen from out of state? Yes or no?

Ok, so if their parents are illegal but they are born here, they are US citizens, correct? So I don't see how you can deny them in-state tuition in that case if they live in Texas. But how would they fill out the financial aid forms, when they are dependent students and must report parental income from a tax return, social security numbers, etc? Looks like the parents would be guilty of fraud were they illegal.

If they are illegal themselves, how are they graduating from Texas High Schools? I had to provide so much information just to enroll my daughter in Kindergarten in NY— you'd think Texas would be tougher.

My daughter heard the University of North Texas has an excellent music program. Should she apply, claim she has no paperwork, and therefore be afforded in-state tuition, which she wouldn't get as a New Yorker?

A quick look around the Perry threads and they are nowhere to be found! Well a couple that were here are about but all the big ‘name’ Perry supporters are quite...scarce tonight...I cannot fathom why... ;)

I pinged one of them earlier, but so far, nothing.

You don’t supposed they’re ashamed or something, do you?

I mean, they were calling us “haters” and all that.

It’s disturbing watching all you so-called conservatives support this cheet. Seen it all before with the Bush crowd.

No surprise. Anyone who has paid any attention has known all along that he was a Grover Norquist Republican.

You’re right. All this aiding and abetting does nothing but create epic fraud. Of course the frauds know this.

Let the illegal parents pay their tuition - not taxpayers! If they can’t, that’s the breaks - let the kid get a job and learn you don’t get things off of anyone’s back. That education alone is priceless! Why are you so fond of rewarding bad behavior? BTW, whose is paying for their health care?

Interesting that you mentioned Trump.....

He was the only (now former) candidate who said he would put troops on the U.S. / Mexican border.

Would he actually do it if he was still a candidate, won the nomination, and was elected President? Who knows. But I like the idea.

“NO ROMNEY, EVER!”

Your tagline says it all, “ex-Mormon”. Ok, we all know you have an ax to grind with Mormons, but get over it. Your overt hatred of Romney is most unbecoming.

Tomorrow will be interesting, watching these people twist into knots defending Perry. This guy is not going to be elected president and I think many are reaching the same conclusion.

Oh don’t forget needing our meds ;)

I say a few of them on the debate thread making excuses for their hero choking on his own feet but since then, just a couple die hards.

I don’t know why they should feel any shame. It’s not like dozens of us tried to tell them...oh wait, we did...
Or It’s not like dozens of us tried to show them documented evidence of his issues...oh wait, we did...
It’s not like dozens of us tried to be reasonable in the face of all the “palinbot/Romneybot/whoeverbot” crap...oh wait, we did...

No, no reason to hide their heads at all. But a few are in full PDS mode going from thread to thread posting the same tired attacks on her. I guess that ‘Projection” and “avoiding responsibility” for their actions thing doesn’t apply to “Conservatives” of a certain type or something.

Hell one is even threadspamming his whining that FR/JR is going to get Romney elected!

Reaganaut’s faith has nothing to do with this. Pathetic that Freepers have to delve to that level.

Romney is a freaking POS regardless of what faith he follows and an embarrassment to all of them. BTW, Romney support is frowned on mightily here.

NOTICE: FR DOES NOT AND WILL NOT SUPPORT ABORTIONIST, GAY RIGHTS PUSHING BIG GOVERNMENT STATISTS FOR PRESIDENT!!

This message is intended for those posters on FR who seem to have missed my prior statements in this regard and insist on advocating for these bastards.

I’d rather shut the place down than be involved in any effort to install abortionist/gay rights pushing RINOS like Romney or Giuliani into the White House!!

Do NOT push this crap on FR. Take your business elsewhere!! And I don’t care how long you’ve been here!!”

Just how do you plan on keeping them out of school.

It’s you that does not know what you are talking about. It is the law that they must be given an education only for K-12 (kindergarten thru 12th grade). It does not apply at the college level. No one, be it U.S. citizen or illegal, is entitled to a college education, at state expense or private expense. They are not entitled to tuition of any kind if a University does not want to provide it. Nor are they entitled to gov’t grants (such as Pell) or scholarships. They must be earned, and only given to U.S. citizens. Of course, Obama would it were otherwise and will illegally himself try to do otherwise, but no one is required by law nor entitled to a college education.
