Ed Padgett knows a thing or two about printing newspapers.
For the last 39 years, he has been working as a pressman at the Los Angeles Times.
In the near future, he could be out of a job.
"[The management is] expecting a really bad fourth quarter. The senior vice president told us we’ve got three years more of printing the hard copy Times before they shut it down. Our plant manager says five years," he told The Frying Pan.
A LAT spokeswoman said that there were no plans to cease publication of the print product, but you would not expect her to say anything different.

i get the wsj for $80.00 per year, but i’m thinking of dropping it. since murdoch took over it has declined.
Newspapers’ online versions are universally the worst constructed websites around. Too many slow-served ads, poor layouts, junk news on the splash page, same old leftist crap in the hard news. Once their print versions are gone it won’t be too much after that their web presence is kaput as well.
I agree. To be specific, I no longer read Jennifer Rubin, because all the overhead on the WashPost’s web page crashes my browser.

Here’s an idea. Quit printing biased propaganda.
A lot of the stuff that gets published in papers is usually bypassed since I can come on here adn find out the details, not just the viewpoint of the author and what the paper chooses to release. A lot of former journalists are going to be out of jobs and will be stuck with their own blogs, if they can attract enough readers.
They ought to be rejoycing for the benefits Gaia from all the saved trees and delivery truck diesel fuel.
I’ve heard that some papers have plans to not publish daily anymore. Some may go to Sunday only publication, since they sell the most papers on Sunday, and people like the coupons and ad flyers.
But I’m a bit shocked to hear that a major big city daily like the LA Times may not publish a print product at all in the near future.
But can’t say I’m sad about the decline of newspapers, since so many are liberal mouth pieces.

I'm just rolling on the floor laughing at the thought of that pressman losing his job.
Nobody seems to care about the little people, the apolitical grunt workers, who are hurt in these situations. The policymakers will land on their feet while the ordinary employees face catastrophe.
