I despise that term "Dinosaur Media".....we should all know that they're who keep the 'rats in play.

It's plain stupid to underestimate the effect they have throughout this nation.

Ed Padgett, if I were you, I’d start passing out resumes now-assuming, of course, that there will still be jobs in newspaper printing.

the l.a. times is a pos.

my wife subscribes for $8.00 a month, with the soviet union tribune for also $8.00.

while she reads both in the morning, i surf the net and read the wsj.

i get the wsj for $80.00 per year, but i’m thinking of dropping it. since murdoch took over it has declined.

Newspapers’ online versions are universally the worst constructed websites around. Too many slow-served ads, poor layouts, junk news on the splash page, same old leftist crap in the hard news. Once their print versions are gone it won’t be too much after that their web presence is kaput as well.

“But the point remains: If the LAT (and, presumably, other papers) don’t figure out a few more revenue streams, the print products are in danger.”

Here’s an idea. Quit printing biased propaganda.

Tuesday good news.

I'm just rolling on the floor laughing at the thought of that pressman losing his job.

Nobody seems to care about the little people, the apolitical grunt workers, who are hurt in these situations. The policymakers will land on their feet while the ordinary employees face catastrophe.

Ahhhhh......the old media......bravely standing on the deck of their burning, sinking boat.....keeping a stiff upper lip as they refuse to turn on the pumps of impartiality to save the boat.....”I’d rather be a drowned Democrat than be right!” squeaked the captain......bon voyage brave little sailor.

Abb,

The same numbers hold for the NYT.

The papers owned by Zell, the Chicago Tribune group, will be gone in less than that.

None will succeed as internet entities because they can not operate in either a “lean and mean, “non-hierarchical” or “news NOW” mode.

BTW, Television as we know it will be gone in 5-8 years.

I don’t expect many local newspapers to survive the next 5 years as a full sized daily newspaper on actual paper. The wall street journal, the new york slimes, USA today, and maybe 25 more major city newspapers. They rest will end up being mini papers possibly only circulated once weekly or electronic only.

The daily paper went up from 25 cents to $1.00 in like the last 7 years.
They are tanking.

39 years is about right for a working career. He can retire and be just fine. The other suckers in their early 50’s are in for a long road ahead.
