American Spring!?Is Occupy Wall Street a be-in, or a new movement?

NEW YORK - It was barely more than two years ago that a boyfriend told Joanne Stocker of Exton that there was more to learn about on Twitter than what baseball's beat writers were saying about her beloved Phillies.

Stocker, now 24, started following the thwarted uprising in Iran through social media and became an activist for Iranian women's rights - the start of an odyssey in activism that has landed her here, in the hard-steel shadows of Wall Street.

Pale and drained with the flu after a couple of nights in a rain-soaked sleeping bag under the skyscrapers framing Lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park, the Chester County native - on Twitter as @SabzBrach - has become a leading Internet voice of the Occupy Wall Street protest. The festive campout against corporate greed and corruption that started almost furtively through the Web about 17 days ago has slowly caught the attention of the nation's media and re-energized liberals angered by the tea party but disappointed in President Obama.

Unbelievable! The hypocrisy is astounding... this is the same paper that painted the "Tea party" as dangerous racists! I really hope the average American sees through this BS....

If it weren’t for the rain, they wouldn’t have had any baths since day one.........

It’s anger, entitlement, and teenage irrationality ... with old hippie organizers. We’ll see if the MSM ever interviews people outside the ‘official’ spokespeople - has the feel of the ‘Strawberry Statement’...

The Wall Street protest is a few hundred people. After they put out disinformation about a free Radiohead concert a large crowd gathered for the show and the news orgs compliantly photographed the large crowd as if they were protestors without disclosing the hoax.

We’ll see what happens when it starts to get cold. I know of student group that decided to camp outside in a tent on my school’s campus until some global warming bill or something was passed and signed. They gave up in mid-October when the heated dorms were too good to pass up.

While many of those who started ‘Occupy Wall Street’ have valid issues with global financiers, global corporations, e.g. sundry bailouts of global entities that are labeled too big to fail, the Marxists have moved in and are using them.

This crap is just more ammunition to blow apart any chance of Obango getting more than a four year rookie run at the White House.

Agreed. Those among them with legitimate gripes (I, too, believe Wall St. has lost all credibility with retail investors,( ala naked shorting and needs foundational reform)

But this ‘movement’ was co-opted early on. Once you have the Susan Sarandon’s, Michael Moore’s, Francis Pliven and now Van Jones latching on, you are once again reduced to the ‘useful idiot’.

“I really hope the average American sees through this BS”

Well, I guess that does qualify as a “movement” which relates to these groups IMO.

This is the anti-Tea Party movement. Except they are basically the same AstroTurf group that shows up whenever the socialists/communists have a demonstration. It is a great recruiting tool for them.

Van Jones was giving a speech about this the other day where he used the word “movement” at least 39 times.

Hey, Van. You forgot the word “bowel”.

I wondered yesterday on another thread when we were going to start getting the breathless “Picking Up Steam” attempts to portray this bit of street theater as in the least significant. Guess I got my answer. BTT.

Short selling needs to be significantly curtailed in our markets. I would add that the derivative(s) markets as a whole are no longer about, “insurance” but more about manipulation. Synthetic shorting using puts and calls is not about providing business with investment capital but about controlling stock prices.
Of course, the wall street protesters are not there for these reasons, they are simply tools of the left.

Let’s see. Camps out in the rain with only a sleeping bag on concrete. Yet has advice on how the world should operate. No thanks.

The wacko that wrote this piece is a Media Matters senior fellow and a left winger. I and several others torment this guy on his blog “attytood” on a regular basis. He still lives in the 60s.

If they cause any violence they should be labeled as “targets”.
