That’s a myth. Jahan was responsible for the construction of a number of large and ornate palaces and forts, and given the skill and dexterity required for that work, it simply wouldn’t make sense.

An Islamic shrine crumbles to the ground. I’m OK with that.

Mausoleum?

I thought it was like Boldt Castle in Thousand Islands, and that she was still alive when it was started but died before it was finished.

I haven’t seen the figures but I believe Agra, Oklahoma, has considerably fewer than four million tourists a year. So it must be the Taj Mahal, not the name of the place, that draws the tourists.

"...the four minarets, which surround the monument, are showing signs of tilting..."

They were designed that way so when they finally did fall, they would fall outward, away from the mosque.

Well, maybe the gov't of India can outsource the conservation work to the US. Thanks Captain Beyond.

To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list.

It would be interesting to know the specifics.

Maybe all they need are some soil anchors and they're good to go.

The Taj is a treasure for all humanity. I should think it could be stabilized. Even the Leaning Tower of Pisa was stabilized and it was was farther gone.

Its not an “Islamic shrine” its a mausoleum dedicated to a woman whom Shahjahan loved.

mausoleum shamzaleum, it is an Islamic shrine/tomb/building/shed/outhouse whatever - albeit very pretty and impressive construction - but it is Islamic and when it crumbles to the ground I will only lament the many slaves who died in its construction.

There are a lot better ‘love stories’ to remember.
