Ironic number considering the current as*hat occupying the white house garnered 52.87% of the votes cast in the last presidential election.

None of the people featured on your link look like his kind of people.

I believe the percentage # refers to the 53% of us who pay income tax.

I'm 55 years old. I paid for my college education by working hard in school so I could be awarded a couple of small scholarships. I paid for the rest of my college expenses with my savings built up by working during high school, working through college and a student loan which I paid off by working hard.

I had a career for 20 years in a field that I could see was not going to provide a living in the future. I retooled and started a new career. It's still hard work, but my company values me because I work hard and am useful.

I still rent. I am paying off my wife's student loan. My daughter attends a Christian school because I won't put her in the godless, Marxist public schools. It's expensive, but worth every penny. I don't know if I'll ever be able to retire. Who cares? I'd rather be busy working. It makes me feel useful.

I am the 53%.

It refers to the top 5% (around $150 and up) who pay 53% of all income taxes collected.

Read some of the comments attached to the photos. Some smartasses mock these people.

Of course, when the SHTF, we'll be the ones with the means of protecting ourselves and our families. The smartasses will be the first to be victimized. Poor fools.

i’m the 10% ... the 10% that pays 87% of all taxes

i’m also the 0.4% ... that pays almost 40% of the bill

the numbers:
* top 1% of filers pay 38% of all taxes
* top 25% of filers pay 87% of all taxes
* 140m people file
* 310m legal citizens, 20m+ illegals, 330m total
* 25% of filers == 35m ==> 35m / 330m == 10.6%
* 1% of filers == 1.4m ==> 1.4m / 330m == 0.4%

i’m also sick & tired of paying to feed the ungrateful, mooching asshats that demand even more from me while vilifying me daily. personally, i say cut the welfare after 6 months. if they starve, the problems will sort themselves out quickly... one way of another (hell, if the left can start demanding heads be cut off... why can’t i demand cutting the flow of free food i’m paying for?)

There's a story about it on The Blaze. It says "To get your picture and story on the page of The 53%, all you need to do is post it with the hashtag #iam53 and Mike Wilson will find it and post it on the site." Some one a little more social media savvy will have to interpret that for me.

My Dad paid for my military acadamy HS education because he recognized what public school was doing. When I was 15 I went to work as a roofer every summer until I was 18.

I then took that money and paid for Community College and a car to get there. (A sweeet ‘65 GTO!) My Dad was a barber, my Mom stayed home with us kids. It was understood that if we wanted anything more than 3 meals, clothing, a roof and a bed we’d need to earn it. So shove THAT up your wazoo you derelict hippie freak! I am part of the 53%!

No, it refers to the 53% of taxpayers that actually pay federal income taxes.

If you account for payroll (Social Security / Medicare) and excise (gasoline) taxes, you get to about 80% of taxpayers. The lowest 20% still pay zero or less due to things like the EITC.

#iam53 is a hashtag on Twitter. If you post a picture with it, it will appear to anyone following that tag.

But, I think someone has the tag wrong. It is actually #iamthe53:

I am the 53%. I work a full time job and loads of overtime. Because of this, I am almost never home.

I am also a full time college student working towards a bachelors degree. I work to provide FOR MY family, not those sucker-fish that seem to think they have some pseudo “right” to my labor. I have gobs of debt because of my degree, and my Lady’s 3 degrees. In addition to paying back these debts, and paying for all of my bills, I have saved up enough money to send my 15 month old to private school through the 5th grade when he becomes of school age. I have enough even with inflation.

I LIVE poor because of personal self inflicted sacrifice. I am 33, I rent, and scrutinize every purchase down to spark plugs for my car. I do not have TV nor have had it since 2007. I use Magic Jack as a phone because it is cheaper. I never go out to eat, and do not engage in any recreational activity that costs money to include bars, or paid events. I chose to sacrifice to provide for mine.

I am the 53% of Americans that work hard to progress my family into a better income bracket. The time is NOW - we have the momentum to ensure that our offspring benefit from our sacrifice. I know I will never obtain the life I once thought I would obtain. However, my son will have that opportunity BECAUSE OF my sacrifice.

You are correct sir, my son will never set foot in a socialistic public school much to the disdain of my brilliant younger sister (23 yrs old with a Masters and working on her PhD) who is a public school teacher. She still believes that public school serves our children well. I wish she would wake up before she too is lost.

This is no joke, or pun - I want a simple bumper sticker that says “I am the 53%” - Anyone know where I can buy one? I was thinking of a sticker like Andrew Wilkow’s stickers (black background and white letters).

Don’t know where you can buy one, but you have a computer - make something in Word and print it. If you don’t have a printer...a friend, a print shop or maybe even the library could do it. I know you can buy “bumper sticker” stock at Office Depot or Staples, etc.

I do stuff like that all the time.
