The lift-off was flawless. The orbit immaculate. But while China's leaders were celebrating the triumphant launch of Tiangong-1 space lab on Thursday, viewers of state television footage were treated to a bizarre choice of soundtrack: America the Beautiful.

To mark the launch, the Chinese space agency and China Central Television (CCTV) released a proud animation, set to rousing orchestral strains, of the "Heavenly Palace" thrusting skyward, lofting above the Earth and docking with a Shenzhou crew capsule.

Go to the link and play the video. I would have put One Night in Bangkok into the show instead.

Maybe they're looking ahead, to after they call in the loans & take possession of the collateral.

It sounds like they may have been mocking the US.

They might be thanking the US for all the help with its space program.

Could it be an advertisement: “NASA, outsource to us!”

Well, it is apt tribute. After all, they got all their technology from our innovation and hard work. Its so much easier to steal and copy.

“They might be thanking the US for all the help with its space program.”

I was thinking the same thing, its the least they could do to thank Bill Clinton for selling all our secrets to them.

The playing of “America The Beautiful” was their way of saying “Thank You!” to us for allowing Bill Clinton to sell them the technology for a sucessful launch.

Back in 1962 my CO was a colonel who had been assigned to the American Embassy in Chungking, China at the time the Communists took over. He said their troops marched into the city with the band playing "On, Wisconsin." I agree it's a stirring march.

Shoot the corrupt bureaucrats in NASA that have wasted our money and let the American space program go to hell.

If the Chinese want to conduct space exploration while our people lose interest more power to them.

I thought it appropriate given the fact that Clinton and Gore gave the Chinese enough space technology to launch rockets not only into space but into Continental United States.
