For every oil rig, you can figure there are a bunch of local spinoff jobs, everywhere from restaurants to car dealers, construction, pipelines and production infrastructure, dirtwork, auto repair (especially diesel mechanics), electricians, both in the patch and doing residential/commercial, right down to cleaning services and lawn care. The night time stockers at the WalMart in Williston ND are pulling down almost $12 an hour and getting overtime hours, too. Grocery stores are having a tough time keeping up, too. So there is a wide variety of jobs, right up to physicians, which become available locally when things really start happening. Pennsylvania has been having a little boom of its own (Marcellus Shale), Ohio (the Utica Shale), and Texas with the Barnett Shale, the Haynesville Shale, and the Eagle Ford development.

Unless the Government figures out how to shut it down on private land (they've been looking for an angle), it will continue.

My current concern, as farfetched as it may seem, is that the Obamites will use the useful idiots in the streets to declare Martial Law, and sieze that opportunity to 'socialize' the oil industry. That is the day I quit.

Youre not as smart or cute as you think you are. One, the President does have some Constitutional authority for executive orders. And two, the EPA is part of the executive, and the President can tell it what to do, without any Congressional oversight beyond approval of the director or passing a new law. Same with the interior.

This ticks me off being he only comes out with this after he bombs the debates

Maybe this will be a tactical advantage for Perry. Timing can be everything. Candidates who roll out their entire platform and plans on Day 1 have to ride that wave to the end. And hope there's no change in the weather.

Beyond what you said, Perry has been asked by Freepers "where's your economic plan?" over and over. Now, we're about to see it. I find it amusing the very next breath these people take, accuses Perry of "stealing" the idea from Palin. A governor in office for how many years, vs. a 10-year governship over the top 1-2 energy producing state in the country. Yet, he's stealing his plan from Palin.

just wow.

I think he spent way too much time attacking Romney when everyone already knew what Romney is.

The way he should deal in the debates is exactly how he did on the Today Show. Don't let others create the narrative when explaining yours.

We keep hearing how there is no GOP leader so someone could step up and BE THE BOSS!

In excerpts of his speech released by his campaign, Perry will say his plan can largely be carried out through a series of executive orders without requiring congressional approval.

I agree with you. We don't need another President running rough shod over Congress, by passing the system.

Cute, yea, right. So by Executive Order, under the Constitution, a President can strike out an existing law brought about by the legislative process? The problem here is that you are not as smart as you think I’m not.

No, but he can direct the EPA to act, and if it does not contradict a standing law (re-writing EPA scope or regulations) then it is under the President’s authority.

I still believe that Cain would agree with Perry on energy. Cain isn’t a warmist.

I do too. No Cain is no warmist.

Check out Perry's website for stats and graphs of his latest energy proposal. Sometimes coming to FR you have to wade through so much nonsense. Take it or leave it, it's all there.

Thereby advancing moral equivalency arguments in favor of Obaama doing the same thing...

Cheers!

>> You’re giving Rick Perry kudos for repeating what Sarah Palin has been saying for years and years?

Rick is articulating a unique proposition. One that Sarah chose not to embrace.

Obama used an EO to facilitate the passage of Obamacare; the ultimate moral inequality that involved deceit by numerous Democrat Congressmen.

Please enlighten me. How is Perry's position different and unique from what Palin's position is or that of many many many other Conservatives? Thanks!

I bet the governor of North Dakota would say the same thing and he didn't have to "get it from Palin". Palin's idea is not original to her. I would even bet when Palin and Perry and the governors of other energy rich states met they talked about this very thing.

Exactly my point!

How is Rick Perry's parroting of what countless other Conservatives have been saying for years "kudo worthy" and "hitting it out of the park" and "a game changer"?

I'm scratching my head over why Perry is getting all this extravagant praise for just parroting what everyday Conservatives have championed for years??? If next week, Perry says he believes teenagers should "study hard and stay away from drugs", are you going to say "My God -- The man is a VISIONARY!!!"

Perry’s running for office, and stated he’ll issue an EO. Enlightenment be upon thee.

No one running is saying this, only Perry and Perry as governor of Texas has been saying this for years. Remember Perry hasn't been doing talk shows or running a campaign for the last 3 years, he's been governing the most successful state in America during the Obama rule. If you want to discount that fine but Cain and Romney are not saying, with the detail, what Perry is laying out. As a matter of fact I dont think I have heard Mitt or Cain ever say this stuff.
