South Carolina mine sparks mini-gold rush to the Southeast

Romarco Minerals Inc. reopened the historic Haile Gold Mine near Kershaw, S.C., this year and expects to pour its first gold bar there in early 2014, Chief Executive Diane Garrett told Reuters this week.

Environmentalists also are concerned about an endangered freshwater mussel, the Carolina heelsplitter, found in creeks near the site.

Without any notification to the property owners, or any due process or compensation, the government of the United States has declared portions of certain properties "Carolina Heelsplitter" sanctuaries. This is a ruse to prevent development in the back country out of riduculous sympathy for some useless little clam that serves no other purpose than to split the heel of creek waders.

What gives the government the right seize the most valuable part of a private landowners property (the area with the gold mineralization) without due process, notification or compensation? These professional treehuggers have almost unlimited powers at a time when people in the area need jobs, which mining could provide.

This is a real life situation, and not a joke.

I am certainly hoping we can avoid a war. I am very uneasy at the OWS protesters, who seem angry and don’t know why.

I think we are in for “interesting” times.

You don’t understand, the jobs are in the free enterprise part of the economy and O is doing his damnedest to eliminate them. It doesn’t fit the redistribution model.

As much as I would like to lay the blame on President Trainwreck, this debacle was underway way before he came onto the scene. It is a fish and wildlife/EPA initiative and probably got underway in the 90s, if not before. The bureaucracies soon develop a life of their own.The Carolina Heelsplitter/Snail Darter/Spotted Owl are just means to an end. No more development(/drilling etc.), nowhere!

'Carolina Hairychested Nutscratcher and the Carolina Doublebreasted Pushover'

And here I thought that those two species were only indigenous to Alabama. They've got a greater migration range than I thought.......

And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Carolina Doublebreasted Pushover

Never encountered this species, but did encounter similar "Carolina Doublebreasted Teaser" on numerous occasions.

You are right. The company I used to work for tried to permit a mine in a long closed open pit in Nevada, the permits were denied for the potential impact on the environment. You see, when the old company closed the open pit mine, critters took up homes there and we can’t disturb them, particularly the tortoises.

Are you saying you have the Carolina Heelsplitter, or a fresh water clam in your streams?

The environazis have probably subdefined the fresh water clams so they could create more sancturies for the generic clam.

How can they seize property rights under such pretense?

Very few people know how many productive mines were forced to close by presidential decree during W.WW. II.

Many are now too expensive to mine “Underground”, and the eco-nuts overregulation prevents open pit mining.

The gold is still there, we even know where it is from the old records, it’s recovery could help our economy immensely.

If Perry would just get his head screwed on strait regards the illegal alien invasion his support of states rights and mining would make him my candidate.

Some years ago in Lake Elsinore, CA, some developers bought a tract of grassland with the idea of putting condos on it. Their ran into financial difficulties and a few years later they finally got the money. They never mowed the area and in the meantime, some "endangered" critter moved in and they weren't allowed to build.

The newspaper article took the tack of "If you have land you want to build on, KEEP IT MOWED".
