SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CALIFORNIA
Distances
* 3 km (2 miles) SE (132°) from Berkeley, CA
* 4 km (2 miles) NE (53°) from Emeryville, CA
* 4 km (3 miles) NNW (334°) from Piedmont, CA
* 7 km (4 miles) NNW (342°) from Oakland, CA
Alas, the tip off the magnitude was cut off, and it’s now become a 3.9. Centered in Berkeley, virtually right under the stadium by about six miles.
The chance that this is a foreshock sequence leading to major Haward Fault earthquake is not zero; strike-slip quakes have foreshocks fairly often and they are often around 4.0-ish for a 7.0 quake.
"The end-of-worlders say that God is going to respect time zones, and make the end of the world a rolling thing, so if we see it happening in Europe, we'll have some time to prepare. LOL
They said the same thing on May 21st. The end of the world would start at the international date line. God is very considerate that way.
Aw man...Good thing I got the afternoon off tonorrow.
Just might make it out alive....
Saying it that way, allows some wiggle room. But who would really want to be right about such matters?
The 9.0’er can’t come fast enough. Hoping Pelosi’s at home when it hits.
Then you’ll see a whole freakin city of Occupy Idiots.
Centered in Berkeley? Why can’t we get a 12 Mag there?
Did Hillary’s broom just land?
A twelve there would fire up caldera not active since 4 million years ago. Yellowstone basin erupting would end the US as a power on earth, returning the U.S. to subsitence for survival.
In Berkeley, back in the 60-70’s, it seemed something like this was around an annual event, with a lot of lesser seismic disturbance’s in between. The flatlands near the bay absorb the energy since they’re silt, mud and shale, and loose.
This made Drudge today, but no mention of the 4.8 outside of San Antonio about two hours prior.
The last “Big One” in the Bay Area happened during the World Series.
Do you have a link on that claim? I should would like to read it...
Can’t you go back to poo pooing these? :)
No expert myself, but that sounds familiar. Of course small ones can at times relieve some of the stresses, which if pent up, could be larger once released?
I've been through a 6.4, and was years ago once riding a motorcycle right one top of the epicenter of a shallow depth 4+, on Hwy 1 in the area which the locals call "South Coast" Big Sur.
In that incident, there was pickup truck right behind me, very close. I was trying to slow down, as the shocks were bottoming out, and I was getting tossed around enough I almost wrecked. I kept trying to brake, he kept getting close enough I would HAVE TO accelerate to keep from getting hit. He finally realized he was too close, and backed off, after the worst of the hard jolting subsided momentarily.
About minute or so later, we had aftershocks of the same strength or stronger, and AGAIN the basturd was right behind me, about a car length. I couldn't believe the guy. We went through the same sequence (of him letting his truck get very close, a matter of feet behind me, as I was getting violently jarred and tossed around). He almost killed me TWICE, in less than 2 minutes.
It's a good thing I knew how to ride. I sort-of lived on that bike in those years.
I saw the Drudge mention of the San Antonio before posting this (after first seeing it on Drudge).
Now I’m confused. I thought Dec 21, 2012 was supposed to be the end of the age according to Mayans.
Not familiar with the Oct 21st ending
The only May 21 thing I recall dealt with an alignment of the planets.
