New GOP 2012 Convention Logo Ignores 47 States (Updated)

The 2012 Republican National Convention will take place in Tampa Bay, Florida. The logo selected by the Tampa Bay Host Committee caught flack after Republicans freaked out when some suggested — in all seriousness — that the logo's minaret "could be considered as Islamic 'Moorish Revival' architectural style." (The palm tree probably didn't help either.)

So when it came time for the GOP to select its event logo, the Grand Old Party tread carefully. Now, the official minaret-free 2012 Convention logo.

According to the Washington Post's piece on the logo, “The elephant—the proud and strong symbol of the Republican Party—with his trunk pointed toward 2012 reflects the spirit, unity and strength of our Party as we plan a successful 2012 Republican National Convention that enables us to march toward victory next November,” stated convention Chief Executive Officer William D. Harris.

Also: “The waves beneath Tampa Bay represent our beautiful host city’s location on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico,” said convention Chairman Alec Poitevint. “The three stars in the flag symbolize equality, justice and opportunity—core principles of our country’s Constitution and the founding tenets of the Republican Party.”

Still, the three-star salute of the RNC's new 2012 convention logo raises the question, why are Republicans refusing to recognize the statehood of the other 47 members of The Union?

One suspects that the artist was simply too lazy to paint in the other forty-seven stars...

But it doesn’t have all the stripes, either. And the elephant doesn’t have eyes. That’s because it’s a flippin logo.

This is a non-issue of non-issues.

And what about the other colors in the Crayola box—notice there are WHITE and RED represented (and blue can stand for those who live near water) but no yellow, no BROWN or BLACK, and no orange or purple are there. I guess all those who identify with those colors just don’t exist for the GOP!

Ooooh, I’m so mad! Showing that elephant, is that some kind of joke at the expense of elephant hunting? Their precious ivory is just a laughing matter to these evil WHITE (included color) men.

Notice also, only the numbers 0, 1 and 2 are represented. As someone who is 46 and was born in ‘65 I guess I’m just a non-person to these folks...

I sure hope Congress is looking into this.

The original logo makes it look like the convention was happening in Vegas.

Definitely looks like the work of a third grader. The elephant is also STANDING ON THE FLAG. IMHO this is not good symbolism .... but it is appropriate for how the Republican party is handling itself these days with the Usurper in the White House!

How much did the REpublicans pay for such crappy work? A third grader could do better in a half hour with Windows Paint and clip-art.

TAMPA BAY

Lasagna noodles?

Three stars?

Elephant crapping on the flag?

REPUBLICAN
N-A-T-I-O-N-A-L
CONVENTION

And if the three stars are straight across as the flag is pitched down and waving, they must angle up to the right at about 30 degrees, and would not even be in a straignt line, if the flag were displayed flat. What's up with that?

Not that it matters. Nobody will look at the damn thing. But if the RNC payed more that ten bucks for this level of effort, they wuz robbed.

I tell you what, Republican organizations can be relied on to do one thing and one thing only....Screw-up and argue about it.

Thats a damn mosque minaret - prayer tower - and has NO DAMN BUSINESS ON THAT LOGO.

As for the "3" stars on the flag...I'll go with stupidity and 'artistic license.'

.....damn republicans...sheesh!...(mutter mutter mutter)

That actually might be a stroke of genius. Just go to Disney World during the summer and take a look at the lines for attractions like Small World, Pirates or Space Mountain. What is it that all three have in common?

AIR CONDITIONING.

Maybe more delegates would be inclined to attend the daytime meetings and seminars than to have the desire to be outside.

"“The three stars in the flag symbolize equality, justice and opportunity—core principles of our country’s Constitution and the founding tenets of the Republican Party.”

Really.

Really?

Methinks they got confused between our War for Independence and the French Revolution.

Sounds an awful lot like "Liberté, égalité, fraternité." Well, I'll go reread my Constitution. Maybe it's in there somewhere.

Jeez -- the "minaret" is just a turret of the University of Tampa.
