Mandatory [NYC] Sex Ed Details May Be Too Racy for Parents [Caution: explicit content]

Details about the new sex education curriculum in New York City public schools are out -- and some are concerned the lessons are too racy.

The New York Post obtained workbooks that will be used for the new recommended curriculum, which begins in middle schools and high schools around the city next spring. Parents, they say, may be shocked by details of the work.

Middle school students will be assigned "risk cards" that rate the safety of different activities, the paper says, from French kissing to oral sex.

The workbooks for older students direct them to a website run by Columbia University, which explores topics such as sexual positions, porn stars, and bestiality. The lessons explain risky sexual behavior and suggest students go to stores to jot condom brands and prices.

The Department of Education says the curriculum "stresses that abstinence is the best way to avoid pregnancy and STD/HIV" and reminded the Post that parents have the option to exclude their kids from lessons on "methods of prevention."

When given details of the new programs, one Manhattan mom -- who has a child in middle-school -- was surprised.

"I didn't know how much detail they would get," she said.

In August, Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs commended the return of mandatory sex ed, saying the DOE wants to give students the correct information about sexual activity if they do choose to engage in it.

"We want to help kids to delay the onset of sexual activity, and if they choose to engage in sexual activity, to do it in a healthy way," she said.

The classes will be coeducational, and can be incorporated into existing health education courses.

It would be a hoot if a state made it a law that no school could offer a course in sex education if it did not also offer a course in firearm education taught by a certified NRA instructor.

It’s a bit like helping an alcoholic dry out by taking him on a distillery or brewery tour.

What next, porn stars visiting schools to demonstrate their favorite positions? I’m no prude, but this makes me want to take a bath.

Is this something the Moral Absolutes list wants to comment on, or is it too embarrassing for them (read this thread carefully before you make a decision)?

Thanks, I've pinged at least two other threads on the same topic.

Nothing I've seen from any such programs promotes abstinence. The Sex Positive Agenda (their term, not mine) is decidedly anti-abstinence and seeks to promote sexual experimentation with the goal of ending all moral judgements over all sexual pairings regardless of sex, age, relation, marital status, number, or species of partner(s).

Condoms in schools wasn’t about eliminating STDs and teen pregnancies. It was about forever ending the argument over whether teens SHOULD be having sex and shifted the focus to “when”.

Apparently plenty of school teachers would rather give the kids extracurricular sex ed lessons than help them with math problems.

well, just want to let you know, there is no such thing as mandatory anything EVEN within the walls of public school. My kids stay,we don’t make excuses, and many right along with me will joyfully break their “shoes” as to this mandatory scatology which our children will not sit through. You think the islamics will be told this garbage is mandatory ? LOL... can’t wait for the next school bd. meeting.

“Please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks oral sex is perverted and gross.”

If it is done between a husband and wife then I would say no.

Otherwise thank Bill Clinton for the rise in such behavior in teens.

It does not seem natural to me,especially since it’s a major cause of throat cancer. I don’t know. Let’s just say I would not want to swallow a man’s ejaculate.

Gee who would think Columbis University would do this?/sarcasm It's been in planning stages since the 1930's. An excerpt taken from the essay "The origins of Political Correctness" by Bill Lind

In 1933 the Nazis came to power in Germany, and not surprisingly they shut down the Institute for Social Research. And its members fled. They fled to New York City, and the Institute was reestablished there in 1933 with help from Columbia University. And the members of the Institute, gradually through the 1930s, though many of them remained writing in German, shift their focus from Critical Theory about German society, destructive criticism about every aspect of that society, to Critical Theory directed toward American society. There is another very important transition when the war comes. Some of them go to work for the government, including Herbert Marcuse, who became a key figure in the OSS (the predecessor to the CIA), and some, including Horkheimer and Adorno, move to Hollywood.

it’s a major cause of throat cancer.

Do you have a legitimate source to back that up?

Oh, man....

You must be a woman who doesn't want to give it.

Because there's no way you're a woman who doesn't like getting it and for damn sure you're not a man.
