New Herman Cain ad: The smoking man
Hot Air ^ | 10/24/11 | Allahpundit

Posted on 10/24/2011 6:44:35 PM PDT by Nachum

Lots of buzz about this among political junkies on Twitter tonight, mostly of the so-bad-it’s-good variety. Is the image of this guy taking a soothing drag on camera after 40 seconds of ad-tastic exertion really that strange and transgressive? Cain’s campaign is all about unapologetic populist authenticity, and there’s nothing more unapologetically, authentically populist than defiantly lighting one up when the mood strikes, politesse be damned. As the man says, “We’ve run a campaign like nobody’s ever seen.” If you’ve got a problem with casual smoking during presidential spots, well, that only proves what an uptight establishment RINO you really are.

In the next spot, Block should have a smoke in one hand and a can of Schlitz in the other. And as the camera pulls back, there’s Cain next to him, eating a slice of Godfather’s and giving a big thumbs-up.

I'm an undecided smoker and the ad did less than nothing for me.

PROVED in one, oh benighted loon.

It’s not just “some guy”; the man is working for Cain. Did you watch the video?

I just went with what it was being called, in the header of the thread and at HOT AIR.

If it was just for Cain supporters, it's a waste of whatever money was spent on it, as they are for him anyway.

good insights - gotta admit I was a little puzzled - still not sure about the unnatural head whipping at 21 seconds - looked kind of weird

Yep Herman Cain is playing 42 dimensional chess here but many of us are not smart enough to see it in particular with this most powerful ad in history of politics.

I loved this ad. It says hermain isn’t afraid. Not of political correctness; not of the establishment.

Quite brilliantly, it may even cause people who are stuck In a paradigm, to be able to pull themselves out of it and ask some tough questions. “why am I so shocked to see a cigarette on tv? If I could be conditioned in that way, what else have I been swallowing? Etc.

Most people hate political correctness, I believe. But they need to find courage to stand against the perceived “norms” that have been reinforced by the liberal media/schools. Cain just might give people the courage to stand up to thus pc worldview that is destroying us.

And the smile at the end- authentic and confident. Obummer is a puppet who could only dream of such confidence!

Anyhow- I think Cain has some work to do in some areas, but as of right now I am in his corner because we need a non-establishment “fixer.” sign up Newt as his vp and it’s off to the races with a tea party at the whitehouse in January 2013.

You've proved nothing. In fact you haven't come near my point.

I'm as blase and unemotional about the ad as can be, so you're armchair psych is funny.

Most people will NEVER see the video and that is a good thing, for Cain, because it's just dumb.

It has his supporters, here, talking about it and some, like me, replying to them; that's it.

I thought the “I Am Not A Witch” ad was stupid too. But if you can’t see the difference between that ad (which ran on TV) vs an internet jab at the establishment, then you have issues my friend.

Your claim that all Cain supporters will just nod in agreement to everything he does has some validity, but it’s also gotten to the equal point where no matter what he does, Perry supporters are going to rip him with baseless attacks.

Grow up.

That'll be awesome...and you'll never again have an excuse to troll the Cain threads pretending that you're waiting for him to do something worthy of your vote.

It's NOT being shown on T.V. and wasn't meant to be.

What the ad says to me, is that he is a political naif, has less than NO idea what he's doing, doesn't have much money and is wasting what little he does have on hand.

You're projecting!

Look, Cain is probably a really nice guy;I've always said so. OTOH, he has NO idea how to run a campaign ( the only one he ever ran before, was a primary and he lost it! ), it's one thing to be a real "outsider", but that doesn't help at all, when running for the highest office in the land. Donald Trump has far more foreign experience, knows far more politicians who could have helped him, and it 1,000 times more savvy and I never ever wanted The Donald to run,let alone be president!

Newt believes in Global Warming, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, and is pals with Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton! Do you have some kind of a death wish?

Take off the blinkers......I proved your point completely!

You asserted that undecided smokers would love this thing and would rush to be Cain supporters. I quickly disabused of that notion.

Yes and the way he blinked few times while taking the long drag is a hidden code which meanings would be revealed by Cain soon enough. There is certainly a code there that rivals any code ever in history of mankind.
