Cain responds to sex harassment allegation
Washington Examiner ^ | October 30, 2011 | Byron York

Posted on 10/30/2011 7:06:28 PM PDT by markomalley

Herman Cain's campaign headquarters has released a response to a story, broken this evening on Politico, that in the 1990s two female employees of the National Restaurant Association "complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain," who at the time was head of the trade group.

Calling the story "thinly source allegations," Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon said: "Since Washington establishment critics haven't had much luck in attacking Mr. Cain's ideas to fix a bad economy and create jobs, they are trying to attack him in any way they can."  Gordon did not address any of the specific allegations in the report.  Asked for a more specific answer, the campaign did not provide details.

Here is Gordon's complete response:

Inside the Beltway media attacks Cain

Fearing the message of Herman Cain who is shaking up the political landscape in Washington, Inside the Beltway media have begun to launch unsubstantiated personal attacks on Cain.

Dredging up thinly sourced allegations stemming from Mr. Cain’s tenure as the Chief Executive Officer at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, political trade press are now casting aspersions on his character and spreading rumors that never stood up to the facts.

Since Washington establishment critics haven't had much luck in attacking Mr. Cain's ideas to fix a bad economy and create jobs, they are trying to attack him in any way they can.

Sadly, we’ve seen this movie played out before – a prominent Conservative targeted by liberals simply because they disagree with his politics.

Mr. Cain -- and all Americans, deserve better.

Cain is likely to face questions about the matter on Monday.  He is scheduled to appear at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington in the morning to discuss his 9-9-9 tax plan, and then speak -- and take questions -- at the National Press Club at lunch.

What a bunch of f’n racists! (And I NEVER use that word)

Guess that’s what he gets for being conservative. Even Ann Coulter’s standing up for him and she’s never been a big fan.

Where’s Jeanine Garafolo? “This is about hating a black man as President, It’s racism - straight up”.

Marty, the next time you have 100,000 employees and a legal staff to handle things that happened 20 years ago, get back to me.

It appears to me that you are micro-managing your smears on Cain. It’s getting tiresome.

It’ll be something on the order of, “We were catering a National Restaurant Association meeting and he said to make sure there was plenty of butter on his asparagus. And after all these years, a notice at D.U. stirred my memory of just how inappropriate such a remark was.”

Juan Williams has it right, this is a Rove thing. There would not be a point for the Dems to bring it out before the general.

At this point I guess everyone in America has been sexually harassed or been the sexual harasser. It has lost its sting, just like the false, constant use of the word racism...............................people are over it.

It’s too bad because when it really does happen many people will turn a blind eye.

Obama and the marxists have made it plain to the beltway media and the networks that they will destroy anybody that pursues anything regarding his eligibility, multiple SS #’s , college records, etc.
The scumbags at Politico don’t fear the right, they laugh at them.
Now if Cain called out the editors of that rag by name and hired an investigator to destroy their lives then we would be fighting fire with fire.
Until the right grows a pair this will continue to happen

If they (MSM) are able to succeed in doing to Cain what they did to Palin, we’re lost.

Shame on all you FReepers who are complicit.

Kind of reminds me what the GOP leaders (SC) tried to do to Nikki Haley. Smear.

“In a series of comments over the past 10 days, Cain and his campaign repeatedly declined to respond directly about whether he ever faced allegations of sexual harassment at the restaurant association. They have also declined to address questions about specific reporting confirming that there were financial settlements in two cases in which women leveled complaints.”

If this were true, wouldn’t the payoff be in the National Restaurant Association’s federal reports? They may not be a 501(c)3 but they probably have to file regular statements of their expenditures with the IRS. Should be easy enough to check these facts if they have an idea of the time this happened.

The Media did the same thing to Sarah Palin and it worked. She resigned as Governor of Alaska as a result of the enormous pressure the media put on her.

It's plausible that the media could force Cain out with this kind of stuff.

Wouldn't be the first time.

I smell Mitt Romney’s hand in this

I smell Rove - he needs to be ousted. He's mad, he said Herman Cain had peaked and is now going down. Cain instead increased.

ROVE HAS TO GO DOWN!! He's the establishment guy that put McCain in his position and is now trying to put Romney in his.

Please, everyone write FOX, get rid of Rove.
