There's Something Very Weird About The Herman Cain Sexual Harassment Scandal
Business Insider ^ | 11/04/2011 | Grace Wyler

Posted on 11/04/2011 6:45:59 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

The Republican race has officially been hijacked by the Herman Cain sexual harassment controversy, and the furor shows no signs of dying down. Everyone in Washington is now trying to decide whether Cain is more like Clarence Thomas or Bill Clinton. Or maybe even Anthony Weiner.

But the media firestorm has overlooked one key fact: We still don't know what Cain actually did.

New details emerged Thursday night about the two unnamed women who Politico originally reported had accused Cain of making "sexually suggestive" remarks and "improper" gestures toward them while they were employees at the National Restaurant Association sometime in the 1990s. The new reports provide some clarity to the scandal, mostly by providing information that differentiates the two original accusers:

According to both stories, one of the women was paid a $35,000 termination settlement after Cain made "unwanted sexual advances" at an NRA event in a hotel, apparently after a night of heavy drinking. The NYT reports that Cain asked the woman to come up to his hotel room, and made repeated advances even after she declined.

Politico reports that the second woman reached a $45,000 termination agreement with the NRA to settle harassment claims against Cain. She is the same woman Cain was referring to when he recalled that employee had "falsely" accused him of sexual harassment after he "made a gesture saying" she was the same height as his wife. She is also the same woman who has requested to release an anonymous statement through the NRA that would "counter" Cain's statements, while leaving out the details of the incident.

But in the end, the new revelations raise more questions than they answer. In fact, the Cain harassment story has actually gotten more vague and confusing as new details and allegations emerge.

Somebody’s lying and I hope it isn’t Cain.

Even if he did bet drunk and make advances, I don’t care in the context of this prez race because the alternatives have their own, huge, problems. Cain’s issues are minimal in comparison, and that is only IF they are true, which is still in serious doubt.

And given Cain’s rise in the polls, even after these allegations, it looks like most pubbies don’t care either.

So Jimmy, you go right ahead an crack that corn.

We still don't know what Cain actually did.

Unfortunately, Cain's story keeps changing, and is very reminiscent of "I did not have sex with that women, Ms. Lewinsky" which turned into "Indeed I did have an inappropriate relationship". I'm not ready to go back to the days of Slick Willie.

She is also the same woman who has requested to release an anonymous statement through the NRA that would "counter" Cain's statements, while leaving out the details of the incident.

That says it all! What else would anyone sane and rational need to know!

The accuser wants to remain ANONYMOUS while officially defaming Cain and certainly not include the details of the incident--details that probably exonerate Cain. Otherwise why NEED to hold them back?

This whole BS story is so dirty it's starting to SLITHER!

Somebody is really scared of Mr. Cain.

The black population is a guaranteed voting block. The liberals keep them trapped in inner city cages, dumbed down in failing schools, living in slum housing, and forcing them to vote democrat if they want their monthly brick of government cheese - while claiming it's all the Republicans fault.
Imagine, because of the black unemployment rate under Oboma, these voters were to take a chance and leave the democrat plantation, follow a black conservative, and he helps them escape their political prison.
This cannot be allowed to happen! The left MUST do everything they can to destroy this man. Their future elections are on the line. They CANNOT afford to lose their guaranteed voters. They CANNOT be allowed to escape!

The guy looks like toast right now. Serious charges and it appears wide spread. Let’s move on to serious people who can win the office. This is a major distraction and it is time to move on.

The accusations have been made. Cain refuted them.

Rather then continue these slime attacks by asking the innocent to prove his innocence, how about supposed "journalists" in the media start asking the accusers to prove the accusations?

Given his recent rise in the polls, maybe Cain wants to keep it in the news, his name recognition is skyrocketing. Now everyone knows about Cain, whereas only just a few weeks ago it was about 50%.

So far I can only see a benefit to Cain with this recent fiasco.

“We still don’t know what Cain actually did.”

Not exactly.

We KNOW that Cain and his organization gave a heap of money to people who wanted to blackmail Cain.

These people had enough insolence to misrepresent something which was probably arguable (if it happened at all). Cain thought that for his own good and that of the organization, giving them money and telling them to ‘run along and play’ was better than creating a public scandal over what could possibly NEVER be proved one way or another-anyway.

It ain’t rocket science. However the MSM is treating with more and greater attention than was ever given to the “O” eligibility question…. Just to emphasize the ongoing bias and professional dishonesty of the MSM

Slanderous accusations are not fact. How about instead of "moving on" the slander merchant quit pimping the smear and demand the accusers provide even 1 single shred of evidence to back up their accusations instead.

If you allow them to do this smear job on Cain, they will do the same against WHOMEVER the GOP candidate is. It is NOT time to move on, it is time to put an end to this slanderous politics of accusation NOW.

In libtard land, that is the beauty of it. As long as no specifics are discussed, they can continue to milk a non story.

As opposed to when specific violent, despicable acts are committed (ala Slick Willie, Client #9, Anthony's Wiener, the Breck Girl, The Swimmer ad infinitum) with loads of credible evidence then the Rat and MSM response is "Nothing to see here, let's MoveOn.org"

Others will view “settlements and non-disclosure agreements” as equating to guilt (to wit “taking the 5th” too many times). However, from the perspective of someone involved like Cain - who KNOWS what happened and what didn’t - he may truly view it as “no skeletons”. As has been suggested from the “up to here” theory: she may have bizarrely overreacted to a completely innocent normal gesture, and he & the organization may have found it more efficient & expedient to pay her off, shut her up, and get her out before any more weirdness followed.

So indeed “no skeletons” may in fact be consistent with a settlement.

Wrong. It's easy to Monday morning quarterback. If Cain brought it up himself months ago they would have still pounded him - either then or when he became a real contender. Their excuse would be he opened the issue up and now they need to dig further. "Cain said it only happened twice we found more women etc etc".

If you and I ran for office tomorrow and thought of every possible thing we ever did that might be used later on I guarantee we would still leave something out. Could be something so minor we forgot it or didn't think it would be an issue.

Cain was gonna get attacked, smeared and destroyed regardless of how perfect you think he could have handled it. The fact that he is not a slick politician hiding behind lawyers and doing a good job of lying means we will NEVER have citizen candidates again if we complain they are not acting like polished politicians. Where have polished politicians got us huh?

Did this girl work for Cain? If so he should not have been asking her to come to his house or anything like that. The guy is not presidential material. The gop voters are wasting good time with a guy that has too much baggage. People need to accept this. He has been charged several times with acting inappropriatly toward women.

RE: This is a major distraction and it is time to move on.

So, if a smear works for Cain, why should it not work for your favorite candidate?

Why should Obama’s campaign not plan another distraction so that people will give upon the person they would vote for and re-elect Obama by default.

After all, it’s working now ( according to you ).
