AP: Joe Paterno to retire at season's end

UPDATE - Nov. 9: The Associated Press is reporting that Joe Paterno has decided to retire at the end of the season.

As the amount of alleged victims in the Jerry Sandusky case climbs rapidly, reports are emerging that Penn State head coach Joe Paterno's coaching career will soon come to an end. Official support for Paterno is reportedly "eroding," even as Nittany Lion fans rally in support of the longtime coach.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that Paterno's 46 years as Nittany Lion head coach "will soon be over, perhaps within days or weeks." According to two sources familiar with top administrative discussions who spoke to the Times, talks to determine "how to manage his departure have begun."

"The board of trustees has yet to determine the precise timing of Paterno’s exit," the Times writes, "but it is clear that the man who has more victories than any other coach at college football’s top level and who made Penn State a prestigious brand will not survive to coach another season."

The total homosexual depravity at this school can be traced back to when they hired Spanier. He was the one who approved and endorsed the annual Penn State lesbian “C@ntFest”. Do a google search on this festival. You will astounded that this is allowed to gone on at a major university. I had heard rumors about Sandusky 10 years ago. There are other pedophile events that have taken place at this hell hole. For example, when basketball star John Ameche bragged about breaking in a 16 yeard male homo while playing at Penn State. Also, back in 1999 Alamo bowl when senior QB Kevin Thompson was not allowed to play his last game. The official reason is that he hurt his shoulder in practice, the real reason is that he was caught having homo sex with another kid in the dorm. Even Daryl Clark, the 2009 QB has skeletons in his gay closet. I could go on and on. Penn State is THE number one most debauched, hedonistic school in all recorded history. It should be burned to the ground.

The victims of these ehinous acts have lost the most...but so have past and present members of the football team....and the current students and alumni.

We see how the schools circle the wagons...as they did around the professor(tree ring) who falsified data on the globull warming studies. So why would anyone think they would ever be capabe of impartiality? And now it will cost them dearly..in $$$$, careers and reputation. Time to clean house...all of them.

I happen to be a Penn State graduate (’75) and I suppose I do have some skin in the game as far as Paterno and the institution are concerned. ..Not as far as employment opportunities or anything like that - - I have my own business - - but because... well, just because I’m a PSU graduate.

The damage done by that homosexual pedophile rapist Sandusky cannot be overrstated. I just double-checked my FR homepage to make sure there was no reference to being a Penn State graduate and then I wondered, what about all the graduating seniors who have to put “Penn State” on their resumes?

Yikes. If people think an employer won’t grimace just a little when seeing “Penn State” on a resume and hire instead the other, equally qualified, college graduate from some other college, they are deluding themselves.

And what top-flight recruit will want to play football (or any other sport) at Penn State... walk into the showers where the rapes took place? How many high school kids (and their parents) are suddenly going to look elsewhere for a college because the name “Penn State” has been transformed to “Pedo State” and they don’t feel like being the brunt of jokes for the rest of their lives? The damage Sandusky and his enablers have done to the university cannot be overstated. It is complete devastation.

That institution, my college, Penn State, has just been knocked for one hell of a loop. The only conceivable remedy as far as I’m concerned is for EVERYBODY to go, beginning with Spanier and Paterno, and all the way down until you hit the mid-level folks. A TOTAL housecleaning is required if there is to ever be the start of a healing process at that place. Meanwhile, I will be wearing my kids’ Temple sweatshirts.

I’m a little fuzzy on Joe Pa’s role in this. As far as I know, someone came to Joe with a rumor

I'm sure other posters have already chimed in...but a direct eyewitness report from a trustworthy individual whom you later name as your wide receivers coach is not simply "rumor central."

Joe immediately went to his superior. Is Joe supposed to be all knowing? Isn’t it possible that Joe thought it was handled and the rumors are false

How do you define the word "immediate?" Let's say 'twas YOUR son who had been raped...and the rapist had the same potential access to your son the following night...earlier in the day of that "following night" -- Paterno heard face-to-face the eyewitness account...and yet had still not reported it to his superiors...he didn't report it til Sunday.

So Paterno knows the urgency of a hurry-up offense late in the game when they are down, but not the urgency of a felony report where children remain at risk?

Come on. Don't dumb down this crime and its tangled web of immoral responses.

Obviously it would be "reasonable" for Joe to believe it was "handled" once he passed it off that Sunday. But come on, we're talking March 2002. You'd think that by the time 2003 rolled around and Sandusky had never been arrested & he was still doing his 2003 sports camps that Joe just might get a clue that some follow-up/follow-thru was needed. (Ya think?)

Now here we are over 9.5 years later? Sandusky still had access to the main Penn State campus last week. Sandusky still ran sports camps thru 2008 at Penn State satellite campuses.

And what about the graduate assistant who ACTUALLY witnessed the raping of the young boy and DID not tell Paterno the entire story. Joe was under the impression that they were horsing around in the shower. Joe told his boss as I would have told mine, and allowed the judicial system to take care of it. Probably never thought about it again until the Grand Jury summons. McCreary is the guiltiest of them all and no mention of him. HE should have called 911 immediately and told Paterno the exact details of the RAPE.

Oh, Joe Pa-shaw! Paterno properly "rewarded" McQueary for staying quiet all these years by bumping him from "graduate assistant" to Wide Receivers Coach.

Two things:

#1 Anyone reading this timeline who thinks Joe Paterno didn't know about his assistant coach's issues prior to 2002 is certifiable.

Sounds to me that the "news" these two rec'd from Paterno on March 3 was "ho-hum" yawn stuff. Not exactly "breaking news." A rerun of 1998, they probably thought.

No wonder no hurry. 'Twas all already pre-determined. Was perhaps even an extension of the '98 agreement...one whereby perhaps Sandusky said he would "retire" at age 55 if he went out quietly, without scandalizing "THE program."

You know what, I have no dog in this fight whatsoever. I have been a life-long WVU fan and had watched many a PSU game simply because they were PSU.

Being a big college football fan, I was crushed when I first heard about this because of the type of program that Joe Paterno ran. I didn't want to believe it, but he was an enabler of Jerry Sandusky. The more that comes out, along with the revelations (at least to me) about PSU being socialized into a queer haven, the sicker it makes me that Paterno ever allowed himself to be put in a position where his morals and standards could be compromised.

No matter how angry I am at him for doing nothing, I truly believe that he was pushed into a corner on this by the PSU faculty. I believe that his coerced compliance and the 02 incident may be a reason for Spanier wanting him gone in 04 and Paterno turned it around on him to stay 5 more years. It would have been dirty and crappy, especially for a man of morals, but I think that may have happened. No proof, just a hunch.

I also believe that Joe Paterno wants to talk. He wants to get in front of microphones and let all of the butterflies out of the envelope; the closed door meetings, the hush-hush deals, the cover up by the queer lovers on the staff, why he truly fired Sandusky in 99, all of it. If not, I do believe the weight of all of it will kill him soon as it would any other man who has principles.

Were I to be a betting person...how much ya wanna bet that Penn State will be so "overwhelmed" by the turn of events that there McQueary will be on the sidelines Saturday, workin' away as WR coach?

I guess that will be the test case of who is the god of Penn State, the football program or a Being with Divinity?

That will be the test case of accountability: Will these pre-teen boys be sacrificed at the altar of the homosexual pedophiles so that at least Penn State can win "one more game?" Or will you be right: Will McQueary "never work in this town again."

If Joe had not lost his principles, he would have gone public a long time ago.
