Cain defamation lawyer hired to monitor accusations (It's Go Time!)

Herman Cain, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, has hired a high-profile defamation lawyer to keep an eye on the sexual harassment accusations made public by two women this week.

Atlanta attorney Lin Wood told Reuters Thursday he was not hired to scare, intimidate or threaten anyone from making statements, but to monitor the accusations against Cain and respond accordingly.

Wood, a top libel and defamation lawyer, was hired on Monday morning when it became clear that Sharon Bialek was about to become the first of four women alleging inappropriate behavior by Cain to go public with her accusations.

"I would certainly at some point and time give him my legal evaluation of whether any of these particular statements are potentially actionable," Wood said. "But I was not hired to run out and file a lawsuit against anybody."

The two public accusers -- Bialek and Karen Kraushaar -- are planning to hold a joint news conference, but it has not been scheduled. They have accused Cain of inappropriate behavior in the late 1990s when he was head of the National Restaurant Association.

I think he’s lying, simply because he didn’t even admit the first cases (the employment settlements) until confronted with proof, and then he said he didn’t recall, and then he said, yes, they happened, but it wasn’t his fault and he didn’t know any of the details

He was unaware of the details at first because the settlement took place after he left the NRA. He was not a party to it and presumably had no paperwork on it since it was a confidential agreement.

He’s just trying to deflect the other Alleged victims he referred to.
Or he knows he’s not going to win, so he’s going to plan B, Sue,Sue,Sue. The problem is that Cain and his trained monkey Block have blamed so many people, that they would be thrown out of court. They’ll be lucky if that guy that has the same name as one of the women doesn’t sue them for defamation. After all he is a “reporter”.

He has “dirty Hands” so to speak. but hey maybe the networks and cable shows will pay him some NUISANCE money.

Oh shoot, I'll paraphrase another great line from the Terminator that applies to Democrats:

Listen, and understand. Democrats are out there. They can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

It is very prudent for him to hire an attorney. Those branded women are running for the hills, their ‘chaperones’ nowhere to be found now that everyone will be held accountable.

The Dems are using their old playbook. They were going to hire more to come out of the woodwork to heap more lies. Using white women, trying to use the ‘where there is smoke there is fire’ adage to run the black man back to the plantation.

Make no mistake- there were going to be more lying floozies who have been promised money to stand up and lie. Because, they know they don’t need the truth. Even a little lie, just enough to cause doubt and besmirch this good man’s character.

Hey Gloria Allbentover, backatch b!tch.

I agree, Herman Cain is taking the full brunt of the attack right now, he’s the shield they’re all hiding behind. I’m just not sure if livius is happy letting the opposition choose our candidate, or if she IS the opposition in disguise.

When nobama does this we all cuss and holler.

For the good of America, we need to know the truth about anyone running for POTUS... ANYONE. We are suffering right now under a POTUS that was able to keep his past secret.

How now is intimidating potential whistle-blowers (no pun intended) a good thing? Intimidation is the tool most effective when the facts won't support one’s defense.

If Cain is innocent he will be able to overcome false claims and become stronger, but forced silence through intimidation via this badass lawyer is intended to do just that, silence anyone and everyone.

Rassmusen poll showing that women are jumping off the Cain-Train in no small numbers, you reckon Lin Woods is going to make the voting ladies more comfortable or less comfortable?

We all need to take of the rose colored glasses for just a moment and think about it.

I’m glad you’re not on Cain’s team giving him advice.

Herman: Raise me a Gloria Allred, eh? I’ll see that and re-raise you Lin Wood. Lin will respond to any situations....accordingly.

Liberals: Fold.

Good use of campaign money.

He's not using campaign money, according to the article. The campaign didn't hire him; Cain did.

Actually, if any of these women are telling the truth, this should not deter them one bit. This should piss them off and make them take the gloves off even more. The truth is the defense to any claims of defamation.

Agree, but when he drug out this “Billy-the-Kid hired gun” the logical and likely result will be to scare anyone not a diehard political regardless if they have the truth on their side or not. Face it most women are not too difficult to intimidate.

One way Cain could put these allegations away would be to show unrefutable evidence and/or witnesses that show he was NOT with any of these women where any possiblity of any “mis-understanding” could occur.

If he was going to dinner, cruisin around and stopping in the parking lot with the women who wanted his help with a “job”, he was intentionally in the wrong place at the wrong time, no matter what occurred or who made the move.

“She was uncomfortable and wouldn’t do it, so he invited her to dinner but she wouldn’t go unless she could invite friends, which she did. Cain ordered two $400 bottles of wine at the dinner, and then left the women with the tab. “]

Or so she says.

Actually, I love this story, because it involves other witnesses who can corroborate at least the restaurant part of the evening.

I can’t wait to hear from each one of them.

I think you just exposed your agenda there, X-spurt. You are asking Cain to prove he didn’t do anything wrong instead of asking his accusers to prove he did.

Gen Xer huh!

You have much to learn about the world of politics.

Everyone is entitled to legal representation, even Herman Cain.

Like it or not, There ARE two sides to every story and so called Sexual Harrassment victims have a very poor track record of honesty with the public as a whole.
