Cain defamation lawyer hired to monitor accusations (It's Go Time!)

Herman Cain, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, has hired a high-profile defamation lawyer to keep an eye on the sexual harassment accusations made public by two women this week.

Atlanta attorney Lin Wood told Reuters Thursday he was not hired to scare, intimidate or threaten anyone from making statements, but to monitor the accusations against Cain and respond accordingly.

Wood, a top libel and defamation lawyer, was hired on Monday morning when it became clear that Sharon Bialek was about to become the first of four women alleging inappropriate behavior by Cain to go public with her accusations.

"I would certainly at some point and time give him my legal evaluation of whether any of these particular statements are potentially actionable," Wood said. "But I was not hired to run out and file a lawsuit against anybody."

The two public accusers -- Bialek and Karen Kraushaar -- are planning to hold a joint news conference, but it has not been scheduled. They have accused Cain of inappropriate behavior in the late 1990s when he was head of the National Restaurant Association.

Making the accusation provable is what is required in court, not in PUBLIC OPINION. Cain’s problem is PUBLIC OPINION, he needs to resolve this NOW and he is the only one that can right now.

As to my agenda, its to find out the truth. I really like Cain, like his not being a career politician, like his ideas, but I am becoming very concerned with the way his campaign is handling these allegations and hiring the lawyer does not help me feel more comfortable.

My AGENDA is for us to have the best most conservative nominee against nobama! PERIOD. Conservatism means honesty, integrity and common sense, not intimidation by fear.

Do you think intimidating to enforce anyone remain quiet that may actually have something important to say as a good thing?? I do not.

Cain ran companies, rescued companies, caused companies to thrive. Have you, keyboard punk? For you to say he has “no knowledge” and “superficial ideas” - let’s hear your resume, keyboard punk. Tell us how you are so much smarter and more capable than him. Take a break from repeating girl gossip and tell us your real world experience and how Cain is an idiot compared to you. I bet you can’t even lie about your own resume and have it stack up to his.

“What “verified” charges?”

There aren’t any!

Gloria Allred’s statements aren’t anything but lies as usual. She tucked her tail and ran like a scalded dog when Cain hired an attorney to fight back unlike most GOP cowards!!!

Of course I don't, but that is not what is happening here. As I said in an earlier post, this should make the accusers, IF they are telling the truth, throw down and take the gloves off. You don't hire an attorney like Gloria Allred only to turn tale when the heat cranks up.

For matter of discussion, have you been in any public places in the last decade or recent decades? If so, I'd like you to prove you didn't treat anyone inappropriately during all said times, otherwise, you must be guilty. Of course, you are expected to remember all strangers and to recall details of people who may have not even been there and whom you've never met.

Well that is an evolving thing. First I was a Palinista, then she backed out. Then I hope Perry could prove he could do for America what he has done for Texas, then he melted. Next I started listening to what Cain was really saying beyond the silly 999 and damn he was sounding better and better, now that he is not handling these allegations very well and is loosing the women vote like a waterfall, I am becoming concern he won’t make it in the Primaries, no matter he great conservative message.

Now I just don’t know, still hoping Mr. Cain can re-gain his footing. Newt is smart as a whip, but has some significant baggage. Even sort of re-dreamin about Palin and hoping above all else we don’t get stuck with Mitt.

How about you?

Are you welcoming or not? Newby maybe but no pushover and love to get right back in the face of bullies.

Just one question....your comment about Mr. Cain losing the female vote...do you have a reliable source for that?

You said “allegations”....indeed. However, to date, that sure ‘nuf is ALL they are.

The jury is still out w/my “welcome”. No offense meant.

Well, Randy, don't waste your money on the Lotto or bettin the horses, your ESP ain't worth spit. Sure ain't a GenX. Probably some time and likely experience on you my FRiend.

Everyone is entitled to legal representation. If you think hiring Woods was for “legal representation” I have a bridge or two to sell ya.

Regarding the public, I suggest you take a look at recent Ras Poll showing women are jumping off the CainTrain BIG TIME. Now why do you think that is all about? You think Cain is going to whip out the nomination that way?

My main problem is whomever is advising Cain, not with Cain. They are either blind or have some ulterior intention to sabotage him.

What did she "back out" of? She never announced a candidacy.

You are transparent, X-spurt. You slam Cain then slam other conservatives and/or repubs, then re-direct and deflect the topic at hand to try to get people to welcome you and sympathize with you. I have never before thought a poster was a paid operative, but you sound like it with a capital "IT".

I see by your comments on other threads that you believe Cain is a slimy liar, and has sexually abused many women.

You believe the worst about Cain, despite the evidence that indicates that he’s being unfairly targeted.

Who are you rooting for in the primaries? Obama? Or someone who’s not running?

Asked to respond to Wood's "think twice" comment, Kraushaar's lawyer, Joel Bennett, said: "I have not heard his statement, but statements of that nature could intimidate or discourage women from reporting sexual harassment."

Conflicted much, Mr. Bennett?

When Hannity said he has never seen this side of Cain, no one has, Allred pulled out the “That’s what they say about child molesters” card.

Disgusting

Oh my God, I’m so glad I didn’t see that. Any further questions why Cain hired a defamation lawyer?

I hope Allred is done after a comment like that. Unf*cking believable, even for me, and I’ve seen a lot.

10 bucks says she’s trying to ride the PSU wave here, like any sheister lawyer.

Maybe he didn’t consider it to be his dinner like the gold diggers did. That tells me they were out for more than business thinking he was going to be their sugar daddy for the night.

So you don’t think Palin was more or less running, then backed out? What planet you just fly in from?

You can not find one post where I have SLAMMED Cain. So show us big mouth.

I don’t give two hoots about who welcomes me or sympathizes. You are a poor excuse for a FRbully. Go find some grit then come back.

My purpose here is for a COMMON SENSE discourse of the issues and candidates we face as conservatives trying to save America, which is sometimes rare with some.

Read about the Ras Poll on FR a day or two ago. Sorry don’t have a copy, but it was shocking.
PROOF is what’s required in court not in public opinion.
I like Cain, but if he thinks trying to scare off anyone from saying anything with this very intimidating lawyer is going to make him look better in the public’s opinion, he is lost right now.

I hope common sense Freepers can recognize the BIG difference between “hot supporters”, his positions in polls and Primary votes. Even more I hope Cain realizes that unrefutable fact, before its too late.

No “welcome” offense taken, My FRiend.
