The Weekly Standard ^ | 11/14/11 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 11/14/2011 4:49:05 PM PST by katiedidit1

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was asked a simple question by the editorial board of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: "So you agreed with President Obama on Libya, or not?" The response, nearly five minutes long, is painful to watch:

Thank God I didn’t watch it. Debates are next to useless. Cain should have replied by saying “Ask the women of Libya.” Islam and democracy are a bad mix.

Marcella, I don’t want any of our candidates to screw up. I dont want the libs gloating but sheesh. Each one of them knew that the most important duty they will have as president is to serve as Commander in Chief of all our troops. They have to be aware of what is going on in the world as we live in dangerous times. Consultants aren’t always the quick to access in an emergency...such as 9/11. Have to have a sharp mind and wit.

She is toast and will not receive my vote AT ALL....even if she is running against Obama. SHE IS OFFICIALLY OFF MY LIST!!!!!!!

>> Does anybody here know what President Obama’s policy on Libya really was?

To remove another cooperative dictator?

To install factions of the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaida?

‘That said, I am wondering if Cain is on medication.’

If I were Cain talking to the media, I’d want to stop and think very carefully, too. As he seemed to be doing. You know how the media rolls:

“Do you support the US intervention against Libya?”
“No, I—”
“So, you are fine with Qadaffi slaughtering civilians?”
“That isn’t what I said.”
“Yes you did. You just said the US should stand by and do nothing.”

I'll save my criticism, on style or substance, for the traitors in the other party, because I plan on supporting whomever runs against Obama.

I wish he would avoid the “Gadhafi was murdering his own people” meme. Gadhafi was fighting an Islamist revolution that sought to overthrow and kill him and his entire family. Like him or not, Gadhafi had every right to fight the rebellion. We don’t support revolutions for the sake of supporting revolutions, especially Islamist ones, which the President appears to have a special affinity for. Even against a “bad guy” (who, unlike the AQ rebels, hadn’t committed an act of aggression against the US in over two decades).

He almost got it right when he started talking about the rebels, but he ultimately dropped the ball by failing to mention the known and proven al Qaeda links, the number of Libyans involved in killing American soldiers in Iraq, the criminal murder and grotesque posthumous sodomizing of Gadhafi, and the massive cache of unsecured weapons — including shoulder fired missiles — that have fallen into the hands of jihadists that we are now responsible for.

It also would have been nice to hear him speak out against committing U.S. troops and air power without Congressional approval beyond the sixty day period outlined in the War Powers Act. Libya was a dangerous step towards giving the United Nations authorization power over American military troops and assets and the implementation of the globalist Responsibility to Protect doctrine.

There’s a lot to hate about what Hussein started in Libya. I really wish Herman Cain understood it better.

Obama insisted the goal was to assist the insurgents in overthrowing Ghadifi....no boots on the ground but we used Nato and drones. The mission was to help the “freedom fighters” Obama wanted to stop the oppression of the people in Libya...sheesh Geraldo and reporters all over Libya almost blubbering about the freedom fighters. Bolton warned..we d NOT know who will take over ...and he went on to explain his position. If I were running for president..I would have read, listened and consulted ...just saying

I never said MM was a HC fan—she is on Fox News a lot after all and liking Cain is a Capital offense on THAT RINO network—I just said that she dumped Hot Air and that it is a Romney attack dog.

Which is what Cain said.

The other thing: asking “do you agree with Obama on Libya” is like asking do you agree with the views of all 25 contradictory personalities of this person suffering from Split Personality Syndrome.

Agree with WHAT from WHICH Obama?

“So, you are fine with Qadaffi slaughtering civilians?”

"When individuals go about the business of overthrowing governments, they cease to be civilians and they become revolutionaries. If you're asking me if I support American military intervention in every revolution or uprising across the globe, my answer in an emphatic, No, I do not."

That's how I'd like to hear that one answered.

Exactly.

It was indeed a trick question.

Do you agree with Obama on jobs? How in Hell’s Bells would anyone answer that?

Thank God for the good sense of the folks in the Palmetto State. I agree the Cain hatred from the Rinos and even some folks here on FR is so over the top. The anti-Cain crowd is so anxious to post anything negative about Cain that they won't even execute a search to see if a thread has already been started.

At least there was a Bush Doctrine!

Obama constantly says two diametrically opposed thoughts in every sentence. What WAS his position on Libya? No one could say that in 30 seconds. No one really could say it at all, as Obama shifted all the time on the subject.

And that was a key part of Cain’s response to the question concerning Libya. Did you miss that part?

EVEN I know that Obama’s goal was to dethrone Ghadiffi. He used Nato and NO boots on the ground. Goal was to assist the insurgents to overthrow the ghadaffi regime...we watched reporters crying on the news constantly about how the insurgents needed our help. Bolton said ..”we do not know enough about the insurgents” Tons of Sunday talk shows covered this very topic...you could hear anyone from Hillary to Bolton to McCain to that idiot Riveria...so, Cain should have studied the foreign issues BEFORE he jumped in the race IF he wants to be commander of all our troops. YOU cant have a consultant during an interview or emergency

As I study more and more about the history of this country that is not on the 6 o'clock news, I have come to understand why so many countries hate the USA for meddling in their countries politics.
