Rasmussen poll shows Gingrich with double-digit lead in Iowa
Hot Air ^ | 11/17/2011 | Ed Morrissey

Rasmussen’s latest poll in Iowa gives Newt Gingrich a big claim to legitimacy in the Republican nomination fight, but it also is pretty good news for Mitt Romney as well. Among likely caucus-goers, Gingrich now leads Romney 32/19, with Herman Cain dropping more than half of his previous support:

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Iowa Republican caucus-goers shows Gingrich with 32% followed by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at 19%. Georgia businessman Herman Cain, who led in Iowa last month, drops to third with 13% of the vote. Texas Congressman Ron Paul draws 10% of the vote in Iowa, while Texas Governor Rick Perry and Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann each grab six percent (6%).

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum draws support from five percent (5%) of caucus-goers while former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman picks up two percent (2%). Only one percent (1%) would prefer some other candidate and six percent (6%) more are undecided.

This is the first primary survey conducted entirely after last week’s GOP debate on foreign policy. Cain also recently fumbled a response to the administration’s actions in Libya.

This comes from a sample of 700 respondents, which is larger than the Bloomberg survey released this week showing a four-way tie in Iowa. This survey took place more recently than the Bloomberg poll as well, incorporating the Saturday debate on foreign policy, in which Cain struggled. As far as the Ron Paul surge Bloomberg noted, it seems to have bypassed Rasmussen’s sample. In fact, while Paul continues to hold onto about 10% of the caucus goers in Iowa, he’s not likely to get much more:

His Word clearly defines these standards. One only has to read and carefully comprehend what has been written down for the ages.

I am have always been a huge fan of Newt’s and of his accomplishments. I just wish he had money maker Rick’s unmatched record on JOBS and overall performance. Nevermind the bloopers of either man, they simply don’t matter to me, but Newt does need to come down and tell me what he will actually TRY to do. Maybe that will come as he gets his sea legs and appear somewhere besides his website references? Newt, however, is his own WAR ROOM! THAT, I respect, and leaves him more than ready for Obama.

Why is this good news for Romney. Don’t understand.

I’m sick and tired of the Pelosi Reid Schumer Durbin crowd. I am not convinced that Romney can go in there as a reformer. Cain is not ready for prime time, and has been winging it, very much like the guy we have now in the WH.

Newt is not perfect, but I don’t care. I want him in there, because I like his ideas. I like what he says about health care, and the basics of what we need to get us back on track again.

Give Newt a Republican House and Senate and the good times will start again. It will start on election night.

I say this is good news.

LOL......

That’s it. I’m done........ but I have good news.

Last night I dreamed I was a milti-millionaire and all of the people in my dream told me it was true, so this morning I’m very wealthy, so I’m going shopping. LOL

As displayed on Drudge:

SHOCK POLL IOWA: GINGRICH 32% ROMNEY 19% CAIN 13%

Justified or now - considering there are contradictory polls out today - which poll do you think will get the most play?

So are we to conclude that the folks in Iowa prefer two RINOs over the conservative? If so, this country is finished.

I saw that clip just recently and remember it when it happened. Newt handled it well and graciously, with "Sorry you feel that way".

Couldn’t say it better. Newt is far from perfect. I wish he were 100 lbs lighter and ten years younger. Romney has more energy, but I think Newt is the best man for the job right now.

Anyone can beat Obama, anyone, so it really behooves us to let this play out.

Ann Coulter has jumped the shark with me. I think it would be great to have one on one debates between Romney and Newt on the issues.

OMG. Puhleeeze, make it STOP. Suicide is NOT an option. Enough already!!!! She is more than half the reason we are thought to be wild eyed and illiterate barbarians led by Neanderthals. Good grief, I need a lemon to cleanse the palate. We pulled the fork out of that one quite some time back. All the world watched. Done.

So are we to conclude that the folks in Iowa prefer two RINOs over the conservative? I don't know about that. But based on unpredicted 2008 Iowa results (Hukabee/Kerry), I don't know what value a poll - or anything for that matter - has or will have. Iowa folks - to put it nicely - appear to be unpredictable...

I would forgive all of Newt’s transgressions and have him be the nominee if only to watch him annihilate nObama in the debates.
