1- serious punitive action against employers. End the carrot once and for all.
2- sufficient security on the border
3- end all federal and state assistance programs for those here illegally.
4- end anchor babies
5- provide very limited special programs to speed up legalization to certain illegals such as military service and language proficiency
6- proactively target street gangs and criminals for enforcement and kick them out immediately.
7- others will leave and go home on their own as a family.
8- Newt’s crazy idea of checking 10 or 20 million illegals to see how long they’ve been here, and their work record and if they go to church is absurd. It can’t and won’t be done. It is impossible to do such a costly security check. End benefits and jobs and they will leave.

unlike Newt and Perry, Cain isn’t claiming that conservative resistance to “selective deportation” instead of “blanket deportation” is some deep moral character flaw.

Bingo.

The "heartless" crack was the same as his "right wing social engineering" remark. Every know and then the "genius" let's the genie (truth) out of the bottle and we see his true disdain for conservatives.

Also, the Newt shills/hypocrites here who spent weeks trying to take down Cain with vicious hate now want to use Cain as an equal to Newt on immigration. Be laughable if it weren't so dishonest and pathetic.

Cain backed Arizona law, Newt killed it.

You are wrong about bashing Rick Perry on border security. Everyone on here needs to view the following link. You will understand he is not lying in these debates. He's got the experience, the vision, the ideas, to secure the border.

your post 214 - right on. Tonight was a needed reminder to conservatives that this was another glimpse into real Newt, disdainer of right wing social engineering.

Was inevitable this puffed up phony would once again show himself

Where are all the people who were criticizing Perry for having a more conservative immigration stance than Newt?

Adding Newt's name, right under Perry's, to the list of people we won't vote for.

Love the bumper sticker in post #58. Apparently “the smartest man in the room” wants to follow Perry's example on how to go from 1st place to 5th place. I have a new tagline!

“Speaker Gingrich may be able to walk this back and minimize the damage "

Isn't that what the anti-Cain forces claim that Herman Cain is doing when they claim he has to clarify something he misspoke on ?

Yes. As evidenced by statements made during their demonstrations that they are “here to work”,”clean our toilets”,”harvest our crops”( and that those crops and land blong to those who work them) and “care for our children”,the illegals show they have accepted the huge lie that America is only about working and making money. The lie that we have no distinct culture,no respectable traditions or history and that even our language should not be accepted.

That’s not heartless, that’s just defending the soveriegnty of our Republic.

I agree totally, but the issue of defending the sovereignty of our Republic is no longer front and center priority either by the multi-national corporations or by the US Congressmen they rent. When corporations went global so did their opinions on sovereignty. Their loyalty is now global and sovereignty gets in their way. Globalization has made a huge difference in how our country is managed by the political elite.

" And I am not just talking about illegals. I’m talking about our massive debt. "

The illegal problem is one part of the problem of why we have massive debt, crime, and Democrats holding onto power.

You are right on some, but there can be a stronger hand. First of all, follow the Arizona law. Second, any illegals arrested for a crime has got to go. Third, focused infiltration of gangs especially MS-13. Fourth, federal prosecution of state officials who fail to enforce federal laws. This can be done and help bring order back to our society. Heat alone will help stem a lot of the problem. The problem is that the federal gov’t and presidents of both parties have ceded US sovereignty in California especially and have invited and encouraged the problem to grow.

Wait!! “FEDERAL prosecution of STATE officials that fail to enforce Federal Laws...”

Are you freaking JOKING?! Right now we’ve got STATES trying to ENFORCE the Federal Laws and the stinking FEDS are SUING the STATES!!!

How about let the STATES that ARE enforcing the Federal Laws PROSECUTE the Federal OFFICIALS for BREAKING both the State AND Federal Laws!?

How about a new policy where the States that refuse to strictly enforce federal immigration laws receive ZERO Federal dollars UNTIL such time as they COMPLY? (I confess, I have a dual purpose in this one — I WANT to dump welfare States like CA, IL, NY and others OFF the Federal Dole)

Don’t punish the States — or ALL the States — for the screw-ups of some. And don’t blame them for what the FEDS have caused.

It is impossible to deport 12 mil. Some are going to stay and pretending otherwise is just naive.

What I heard from Newt was a reasonable approach to the illegal immigration problem.

Look, if I leave the front door open through the winter how can I complain about the cold and my skyrocketing heating bills?

Newt’s talking about a 3 part plan. First, control the border- shut the door. Second, Guest Worker program. Third, a Review Board to review the illegals that are here.

The question is what’s the criteria for deportation and how do you handle those that can stay? Newt said those allowed to stay would NOT be US citizens. Forcefully sending all 20 million men, women, and children back over the border won’t happen. If you think that, then tell me who is going to do it and exactly how.....really....

>> if the conservatives hadn’t thrown him overboard when things got hot with Clinton in the 90’s <<

Conservatives didn't throw him overboard. An attempted coup within the GOP caucus to remove Gingrich as speaker was thrawted pretty easily in 1997 and the dissenters were taken to the woodshed. Newt had just been re-elected in 1998 would have continued to have firm control over the Republican majority had he stayed on in 1999. He threw himself overboard and quit when the going got tough and Clinton kicked his butt:

Gingrich stuns Washington by stepping aside

I intimately knew a family of illegals that lived here in Georgia.

They had zero desire to assimilate.

The parents didn’t bother to learn English because they moved and lived within a community of other illegals from Mexico. They had ways and means to work the system, without ever having to learn a word of English.

They marveled that the Americans even provided “Dora the Explorer” on television. They thought it was cute that the Americans would encourage their American children to watch the program that used cartoons and Spanish for entertainment. It helped their daughter learn more words, so that she could help them at the grocery store or when they went to the doctor.

They saw their four year old daughter as a soon-to-be English dictionary. They would enroll her in school, she’d become bilingual, and help them to communicate with the gringos. They never tried to read American publications and only watched Spanish-based programming on cable television. They had no desire to become Americanized in any way.

They spent a lot of time “hiding” in plain sight. They knew the rules about how to behave and how not to draw attention to themselves. They knew that doctors would see them, and that they could get food and clothing from within their network, or a private charity, if necessary. They never contacted the police if they knew of a crime, because they were fearful of being watched. They contributed to the decline of their neighborhood.

They never showed an interest in becoming like Americans. All they did was earn their low-paying checks and send half of the money home to Mexico. They even went home to Mexico to visit family, and then came back to their American rental home without ever drawing any suspicious attention.

Why worry, when you can make money, send it home, and go home to visit for a family vacation?

They thought Americans were stupid. And they’re right. We’re so tolerant and forgiving that we never say a word about the illegals living among us. We roll out the welcome mat for them.

Keep in mind the magnitude of the Gingrich trashing on this thread does not indicate a true test of opinion, just that of those the most PO’d. I heard the whole exchange, with Bachmann repeatedly saying Gingrich said something he didn’t (since he doesn’t, in fact, want the entire 11M granted a reprieve).

I don’t like Mitt, was a Cain supporter until he began coming apart at the seams on foreign security issues and the “I’ll defer to Newt” behavior at the Woodlands debate, know what kind of paid-off sell-out Perry is by being a native Texan, and can’t stand the rest of the pack.

That brought me around to Gingrich, and this answer has the benefit of being pretty reasonable in that it starts with border and employment enforcement, then turns to long-standing residents with a NON-CITIZEN permit (note the caps). It could also pass Congress, which, despite the thread’s teeth gnashers’ thoughts to contrary, is pretty bloody important when it comes to actually governing.

Think about what the middle-of-the-road voter looks like: mushy-minded on statist issues in many cases, fundamentally good-hearted but worried about bread-and-butter issues, and swayed by emotional appeals, especially to the “underdog.” I seriously doubt this hurts Gingrich with them, but if folks on FR turn on him, enjoy Mitt as the nominee who’ll be looking for their vote.
