Cain to End Candidacy Tomorrow? (Major Announcement tomorrow.)
Big Government ^

Posted on 12/02/2011 11:35:32 AM PST by sunmars

Embattled presidential candidate Herman Cain is inviting his top supporters and donors to Atlanta on Saturday for a meeting in which he will give them advance word of whether he intends to continue his campaign, sources close to the campaign said Friday.

One supporter who has been summoned to the private session said he believes that Cain is likely to announce he is ending his candidacy.

Another who has been invited to the morning meeting says attendees have been told he has made no decision, but wanted to meet with some of the supporters to express his gratitude.

Several sources indicated that Cain is likely to announce his plans publicly at a news conference after the meeting. Cain had already scheduled an event on Saturday — the grand opening of his national headquarters in his hometown of Atlanta, as well as the announcement of his campaign’s freshly minted senior leadership team for the state of Georgia.

Please no! I am so tired of the democrats winning by destroying the only good people we have, the ones who have a chance of winning. Please Mr. Cain fight for yourself, us and this country!

Mrs. Cain is a lot stronger and more savvy than people are giving her credit for. Reading all the comments about Mrs. Cain like she was some wishy washy clingy woman. Gee..did you not watch her? She is one strong woman. If she has anything to say..she’s gonna say it. My bet is that she knows Herman inside out..she loves him and she’s already told us that she will not come out and “stand by her man” like the others.

You couldn’t possibly be a true Cain supporter (former or present) and buy into the gossip.

That guy Newt has built up nothing. He has defecated on conservatism repeatedly over the years.

He is for sale to the highest bidder. His wife is one of them. He took a cruise and paid her off at Tiffany’s. What a loser. The woman will be no asset either, she looks as cold as ice.

Get your head straight.

I wasn’t even all in for Cain, but I WILL DEFEND him over a unprincipaled smartass RINO.

Ideally, yes. But my husband and I sometimes have trouble even having the time to communicate who is picking up the kids from this or that school event, much less who all he’s talked to or helped. Sometimes the pace of life gets in the way.

As much as possible we avoid the appearance of compromise, but Jesus Himself was accused and hanged on a cross. If somebody is willing they can make a scandal out of anything. And that’s why this deal with Cain is so critical. People are saying that it doesn’t matter whether he’s guilty or not - all that matters is whether somebody can accuse him and create the perception that he’s guilty, or inept at handling accusations, or whatever.

Anybody who says that has never been at the mercy of slit-throats. They may think they are so above the fray, but that’s only because nobody considered them dangerous enough to target yet.

A prostitute is lying on the ground battered and bleeding from her last “customer”. Nobody else is around. A Christian man sees her there. What does he do? To be above reproach he would have to be like the Levite or priest who walked on the other side of the man on the road to Jericho. The one man who would NOT be “above reproach” (if that person who was bloody in the street was a woman)is “the good Samaritan”.

Imagine if that guy on the road to Jericho left for dead was a woman. That Samaritan who picked her up, touched her wounds, left his personal belongings with her, paid her hotel bill for a month.... could easily be accused of things tat could get him executed in some parts of the world. Or get HER executed in some parts of the world.

We tend to think of the priest and Levites as being cold-hearted but maybe they were just trying to be above reproach. Maybe they just cared more about their reputation and political future than they cared for the man whose crisis didn’t happen on schedule when there were lots of witnesses on hand to vouch for his correctness.

See what I mean? OB/GYN’s have nurses who come into the examining room to be a witness, but I know of very few pastors, teachers, or other people in the “helping” professions who have that luxury. The practicalities don’t allow for that, and as a result those people are vulnerable to unfounded claims.

“Cain screwed the pooch on this one”.

My friend used to say that the only one who was consistently present whenever he got into trouble...was him.

I agree with your assessment, gimmel. and would add that I have noticed that he has not taken ANY responsibility for the mess that he has created for HIMSELF....just keeps passing the buck and continues to label the attacks as “baseless accusations”.
He also said during the Hannity interview that he is not guilty of “some” of the claims.

I am amazed to read on this thread that some Freepers think he is going to stay in the race.
Are you kidding me? He is so going to withdraw tomorrow. And then he’ll be sleepin’ on the couch for a while.

Yes, we wanted an outsider in the guise of a Herman Cain but we also wanted someone that shows some FIGHT, that gets out ahead of the game and that hires COMPETENT campaign staff. I feel for your disappointment in watching your guy go down. I too had high hopes for his candidacy.

The media had little to do with Cain’s unraveling. I was highly skeptical of the first three women who came forth with flimsy evidence. They indeed may have been paid by the Obama campaign (Axelrod) but I still want to hear a rousing denial or a convincing explaination of this latest imbroglio. And I’m still waiting. The longer I wait the less I believe that candidate Cain is clean and pure and will survive this episode.

Perhaps next time a little less emotional attachment to your candidate and the let-down wont be as painful. Just a thought.

“Some of the claims” are that he texted her. He did text her. If he said he wasn’t guilty of any of the claims somebody would call him a liar because he texted her.

Appreciate your comments. That being said..you and I and all the couch potato quarterbacks don’t know what Cain has in mind for tomorrow. Right? I expect that his lawyer and his lawyer’s investigators are busy today.

I don’t think Perry is a cheater, and he has more experience and leadership than the rest of them put together. Granted, the others do have their experience, but Gov. Perry has been Governor for 12 years, re-elected twice, longest serving Texas governor, but before that he was LIEUTENANT governor, the most powerful man in the state. He took a demotion to become Governor. I think he would be a damned fine president. Sure, he looks a little silly now. They all do, always have. They don’t acquire the Gravitas until they get in there. But he’d be good. Like W he’d do some things with his big heart that we’ll have to fight him on, but in general he’ll be a great manager and commander-in-chief and above all, he’ll put the grownups back in charge.

Even worse to make them travel to find out he's quitting.

No, it's not. That is something you tell someone to their face so you can apologize and commiserate. You don't ask them to travel to tell them you are staying the course. You heard it here first...

first of all I have donated to Herman Cain’s campaign but ..

there are friends of Cain’s wife who are now saying there has been trouble in that marriage for a LONG TIME with him “liking the ladies” and he very seldom sees his wife or is seen with her..

you could see that she wasn’t thrilled with her husband or the campaign in the interview she did with Greta

and btw from the interviews I have seen of Palin in the last few weeks I don’t think she is buying all of Herman Cain’s denials either

it’s probably time to let Herman bow out and still hold his head high because his campaign is over

Again, if I was a campaign manager I wouldn’t be springing “big” news on a weekend. The only folks that pay attention to weekend news is us.

If Newt ends up ending a 13 year affair in the next few weeks, people will leave him too.

Newt already had at least one that he admitted to and it hasn't hurt him at all. And I don't recall Herman Cain ever claiming to be pristine. He does claim to be an outsider.

That said, Newt's flip flops, backtracks and dalliances with the dark side make him and Romney 1 and 1A on my List Of Those Who Should Not Be The Nominee. Unfortunately, the list is becoming entirely too crowded.

Why would you ask all your supporters to travel to Atlanta just to tell them you are staying in?
**************

Why would you call all your supporters, make them travel that distance, to tell them you are dropping out? I think he stays in- though, he might strategically “suspend”.

Comical... absolutely comical.

The guy who engineered the Republican take over of the house for the first time in 40+ years, and the Contract with America classified as a RINO.. that’s comical.

You need to open your eyes, Do I like every decision Newt has made in his political life? Of course not, I didn’t agree with every decision Reagan made either, or that Toomey has made, or Bush, or any politician for that matter.

You try to claim your objections are based on political astuteness, but all you offer is personal attacks... His wife? You are now attacking his wife as though she has anything to do with anything? Be serious man.

I’d love to see someone to the right of Newt and Romney, and if there was someone who was COMPETENT, CAPABLE and VIABLE I’d be supporting them, but there isn’t, not anyone close. Why not? Who knows.. Maybe those that were that might have run were scared off by Romney’s war chest and decided against running.. maybe they were scared off by the small very loud part of the Tea Party Bloc (and those here) demanding absolute Conservative “PURITY”, a test which NO ONE WILL EVER PASS. (Well at least no one in politics who’s had an ounce of success beyond the local level).

Anyone who is politically successful at all, with the exception of totalitarian states, is successful through negotiation and compromise, that’s how the system works. You think MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY, and you are GONE. Which is why, unless zealots put up a joke of a candidate, Obama will be gone.

You need to stop the hyperbole and demagoggery. Here’s the choice, like it or not, you are faced with this election. Obama, Romney or Newt. That’s it.. its not rocket science, its not the world out to get you, its the reality of the 2012 political cycle. You can scream and holler that the world sucks and isn’t fair, and it should all bend to your way of thinking and lash out at anyone who doesn’t march lock step with you, or you can stop the nonsense, and realize who your friends are and who your enemies are. Zealots never know who their friends are, and as such are almost always left out in the cold at the end of the day.

So, that’s the pragmatic reality, Newt, Romney or Obama, and if you say screw it I’m staying home with your misguided notions and passions of political purity, you help Obama. Folks did that in 08, and that’s work out oh so well for you since then hasn’t it?

I was a Cain supporter until yesterday in every sense of the word. As a Conservative activist, I attended two fund raisers for him, made multiple contributions, and signed up to be on his fundraising and marketing team in my state.
What have you done for Mr. Cain?

It does not take a rocket scientist to see that at least some of what he is being accused of is true.
It is not merely gossip.

If nothing else, he had a relationship with a woman to whom he was funnelling money regularly for 13 years without Gloria’s knowledge.

If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it’s an affair, with or without sex.
At the very least, Mr.Cain has been deceitful and dishonest and has behaved in a manner unbecoming of a presidential candidate who supposedly values the sanctity of marriage.
It’ll be interesting to see how Mrs. Cain responds...but I fear that she might do a Huma Weiner. Why? Because I predict that there is a chance that she’s known about her husband’s dalliances all along. And if so, what would be her incentive to change?

I feel betrayed. He was my guy...and unlike probably you and many others who post here..I was actively working to help him because I believed that he was our country’s best hope. Am going down to take my Cain vs Unable sticker off of my bumper.
