Herman Cain 2012 drop-out decision: 'Leaning toward' campaign suspension
Politico ^ | 12/02/11 | Maggie Haberman & Reid Epstein

Posted on 12/02/2011 6:39:28 PM PST by freespirited

Multiple sources familiar with the discussions told POLITICO Friday that Herman Cain is “leaning toward suspending the campaign,” in the words of one, who stressed no decision has been made.

“He’ll probably get out, but nothing’s been decided,” another source said.

The one-time leader in the Republican presidential polls is scheduled to address supporters at the opening of his Georgia state headquarters Saturday. He was set to meet with his wife Friday to discuss the future of his candidacy at the end of a week at which he and aides repeatedly said he was “reassessing” his candidacy.

Cain himself has sounded conflicted about the decision, saying in interviews this week that he was eager to spare his wife and family any further pain. But at events in Michigan, Ohio and South Carolina this week, he’s taken a defiant tone.

The source cited the toll the period that began on Oct. 30 has taken on his family — something Cain has discussed publicly over the last few days.

The two options he’s weighing are “continuing forward with the campaign, or suspending the campaign,” the first source said.

But Cain may still decide to fight, the source added. Either way, Cain has made clear he is not conceding the allegations against him are true, and also that he plans to keep fighting to clear himself somehow, although it’s not clear what form that would take.

What’s also become clear is that some of Cain’s advisers want him to keep going.

Cain’s campaign spokesman J.D. Gordon pushed back on the rumors that the candidate would likely leave the race, saying, “I don’t know where they are getting their information.”

Gordon referred back to Cain’s comments on Fox News on Thursday night that he’d make a decision by Monday and at a town hall on Friday, where he said he’d announce his future plans on Saturday.

“I don’t have anything to add from what Mr. Cain said in Rock Hill, S.C., and on the Sean Hannity program,” Gordon said.

Cain aides were preparing for a campaign through the Iowa caucuses as recently as Thursday night, when the candidate’s Iowa chairman Steve Grubbs says he met with campaign manager Mark Block in Des Moines. Grubbs said they even submitted a campaign mobile app to Apple for approval on Friday.

Cain’s schedule is filled well into next week, with plans to campaign in Oklahoma on Monday and to speak at the Republican Jewish Coalition forum on Wednesday. The national campaign also just launched the Women for Herman Cain group, naming Cain’s wife Gloria, as its head.

“We were planning the campaign for the rest of the month. We have a lot of work to do,” Grubbs said. “We’ve got all sorts of things going on, so I would be real disappointed if he did drop out.”

Because it’s so rocking-good fun to laugh about innocent men being butchered in front of our very eyes.

Otherwise, who's better, Perry or Santorum?

This is a level, right? Those two guys' poll numbers combined are still less than Cain's, even after his five weeks of relentless pummeling. If either of those guys somehow miraculously gets the nomination, it's all hail Obama for another four years.

>> You think and act like an Obot.

That’s a rather vacuous and unfounded accusation.

So... you’re a preacher’s wife? Does the preacher know how his beloved spends her time? Would he approve of your groundless name calling? Does it manifest Christian love, as Scripture dictates?

How do *you* feel about that? Does it bother you when you go to worship? Do you do any thinking about your role as a Christian wife and Christian example during worship (or at any other time)?

For many people on this forum, as you have seen, yes, that makes your husband an adulterer. Amazing, huh?

You are citing the exact same circumstances as Ginger White. (In fact, is that the woman's name who keeps bothering your husband? ;-)

Ginger White is alleging much more happened, but offers absolutely no proof. Not a single photograph in 13 years. Not a single plane ticket stub. Not a single card or letter. Maybe she will produce tawdry emails at some point, but there has been no mention of emails so far. No stained blue dress. No love child. Etc.

13 years, and nothing to prove her case, other than her word? Sorry, she has already lost a no-contest case of libel or slander (can't remember which). Unless she shows us proof, I'm not buying it.

And for anyone who didn't see Lin Wood's interview with Piers Morgan the other night... Wood was mad, mad, mad at this whole mess. “Five lies do not make one truth.” I can't wait for him to rain down fire and hell on all of the parties involved in this smear campaign.

Feel the same way... It’s time to abandon the GOP they are just like the Democrats. We can’t use the term RINO anymore since that seems to be the Norm of the GOP.

Think about it. McCain, and now Gingrich or Romney....

Like I said RINOS are the norm.

Time for the Tea Party to Organize.

Hey GOP you are like Crabs in a bucket.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes, it quite matches my Lord, who called the Pharisees “white-washed tombs” because of the way they laid heavy burdens on people without lifting a finger to help.

I feel fine about it. When I go to worship I ask God to do whatever He wants with me and with my world, to forgive the sins I know and the sins I don’t know, and to somehow make all my blunders wise. And then I trust Him to do it.

As to whether I feel guilty about saying you think and act like an Obot, I say that as clinically as if I was saying you appear to have a ringworm. I have dealt extensively with Obots. They have a totally different epistemology.

They latch onto “gotcha” details like “Have you stopped beating your wife yet” while refusing to really hear what a person says.

They gloat about how smart and/or ethical they are compared to the low-lifes they are talking to.

They say things that are based sheerly on conjecture and with an apparent intent to inflame (such as “Cain admitted that he paid off a bimbo for 13 years and didn’t tell his wife”, deny and/or ignore the facts that are presented to refute what they’ve said, and then claim that their opponent is arguing mere conjecture.

They assume that anybody who doesn’t like or agree with Obama isn’t giving him the “benefit of the doubt” - even if that person has spent literally thousands of hours dealing with the lies and crimes of both Obama and the lawless folks in government offices covering for him.

I’m rural enough that I can tell a horse from a cow just by sillouhette, and I’ve dealt with the arguments of Obots long enough to do the same with them. I can recognize a donkey’s sillhouette by now.

You have to admit that the affairs are not the only problem for Cain. He placed a lot of doubts into people’s minds after his dismal performance in that newspaper editorial board interview. He was totally lost in answering the simplest questions on foreign policy related to current events. The affairs circus just tipped a lot of people over the edge.

Don’t play victim blaming everyone but the guy in charge of his own campaign. That is what Democrats do. Mr. Cain had everything to do with what has happened in in Mr. Cain’s campaign. He’s not ready for prime time and we can afford to play around with Mr. Confused this election.

You’re a fine piece of work, sister. May God help you with your conceit and naivete, and then you’ll be perfect.

Well, I ‘m here in florida. Some might describe it as an important swing state, went blue last time, and I don’t think I’m going to lift a finger to try and prevent that this time.

I’ve been hoping that the lawyer can get to the bottom of where this is coming from and cause some heads to roll.

Right now it’s a he-said-she-said but her former business partner has said that the libel suit should tell everybody all they need to know about White’s credibility. The tactics of the left are to not worry about consequences for lies, because they have the money to buy off justice, and all they care is that the damage is done BEFORE the truth can be found out. If we “conservatives” let them get away with that, then we deserve everything we get, and we will definitely get it.
