Herman Cain drops out of presidential race
LA times ^ | 3 Dec 2011

Posted on 12/03/2011 11:02:40 AM PST by mandaladon

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."

Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

>>Pretty good strategy if that’s what it pans out to be. I would vote for Cain, but Newt (even with all his defects) can slam Obama like a mighty god in debate.

And when I say that, I mean that Newt can get Obama in a gotcha moment every time he opens his mouth.

The thing that concerns me is Newt’s position on the illegals. I live in California and I am sick and tired of all of these illegals

Get back to me after they burn down your church (with women and children inside), go through every e-mail you’ve ever sent & received, gone through your trash, placed a sleazy author in the house next door to you, threatened you and your family with death on a daily basis and smeared you world-wide.

Very depressing news. Another conservative shut down and shot down by the goons in charge and their minions in the MSM. Now what?......

Time to fight dirty

I like Bachmann. I like what she says. She’s got conservative cred. I’m not sold on her though. So, that leaves Santorum. Can he get enough support in the next 4-5 weeks? Seems like if Gingrich can rise as fast as he did that someone else could as well. I’d take him over Newt and Mitt, no questions asked!!

I'll take Santorum too. He seems like a good man

Don’t blame you. To be honest the most socially conservative candidate is Santorum. He is so far down in the polls...I guess voter’s are more concerned over fiscal changes and the economy than on social issues. Don’t think I have heard Santorum viciously go after anyone...unless I missed it. My choice is Newt and I know the msm will be after him...but he is also going after them and Obama. He said he wants to know more about Obamas college days and etc. Time (IMO) to go after Obommie the Commie and do it big time.

Keep re-posting that paragraph until you're blue in the face.

She ain't running, can't run, won't run, doesn't want to run and played you for a prime fool.

Deal with reality. This ain't fantasy football.

LMAO, ain't that the truth!

Seems like you’re the one who is blue in the face.

Seems like you're the one that got played like a pawnshop guitar.

“We must draft, nominate and elect Sarah Palin president in the most crushing tidal wave of enthusiastic good judgment ever seen in the history of this nation.”

Normally, I like your posts, and your undying support of Palin is admirable. However, what you suggest is never going to happen - never. Also, it is wholly inappropriate, at this time and thread, to pitch for another candidate.

I’m not a Cain supporter, but even I take offense by someone speaking of another candidate now. This is Cain supporters time to greive as it was yours when Palin dropped.

The time to talk options will be later, and on a different thread.

Proof, Cain had a relationship with White behind his wifes back, thats a fact, gave her money also, thats also a fact.Went on for over 13 years, also a fact! What other proof do you need, accusser #6 to come forward?

Bingo! Where there's smoke, there's fire. Questionable character on Cain's part - he humiliated his wife by not telling her about this. He has not handled things very well from the beginning and his inability to answer questions and his stupid remarks about Uzbekistan just added to all of this. He should have dropped out long before this imo. He will end up with a gig on Fox and get paid mucho denaro for speaking engagements.

So I see what you’re saying about Newt, but I still think he’s a brilliant war-horse who will be reigned in by congress.

Yes, perhaps so with domestic policy. But let's not overlook foreign policy, which is where a president has almost a completely free hand to act as he deems appropriate. Newt has the capacity to be both Churchillian and strangely Wilsonian. It's an odd mix, but Newt is nothing if not unusual and unpredictable.

I’m darn sure up for it, but our “fearless leaders” in the Republican party are a bunch of wusses that cave at every opportunity.

The choices that are left are less than stellar...and the ones that seemed that way at first have also been discredited without our putting up a fight.

Are there any deserted islands left in the world?

I was a Cain supporter too. He could have done much better in how he handled this. When you do not have the will to fight for the presidency, much less fight false charges, your time is done. Not fair but just the way it is. He is a good man and has done the right thing for himself and his family. I wish him well.

I think Rove dugup the allegations and Alexrod ran with them as Rove has been pushing Romney on us from the start since he knows Romney cannot effectively win, giving Obama a second term to really damage the nation as a lame duck and we end up with Jeb as we did George W in 2016 because we will be convinced by the media and Party establishment that only a moderate can effectively win in the bitter environment left behind by Obama.

Bachmann’s foster children are 23 liabilities for the left to use against her. All they need is one to say there was physical or sexual abuse and it’s all over.

And she has no executive experience. Cain has executive experience in the private sector. Bachmann cannot win against 0bama. As much as I like her conservative principles she’s simply not ready for prime time. She might make a find VP or Atty. General, though.

Very sad day. I have very little enthusiasm for anyone else. I guess this is what the media wants...to burst our bubble. Well, I’m sure I’ll vote but it’s not going to be with the same excitement.
