Herman Cain drops out of presidential race
LA times ^ | 3 Dec 2011

Posted on 12/03/2011 11:02:40 AM PST by mandaladon

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."

Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

I'm with you 100% regarding your comments on Newt but strongly disagree with the 20-20-20 comment. I don't know whether 999 would ever have got done, but if it did it would have struck a death blow to the liberal progressive movement. It would have neutralized class warfare political tactics, would have eliminated the IRS but it would have also eliminated the capital gains tax and death tax which would have simplified the system to the point where many accountants, lawyers and financial planners would have been made expendable....which IMHO was a problem for Cain.

For anyone that still cares; check out the 15 page download explanation of 999....if it is still available. It was so much more well conceived than most folks give Cain credit for. Oh well it's dead now....I would like to see Bachman or Santorum prevail, but it looks like the GOP establishment has successfully made the primaries a contest among professional politicians who will try to make things a little better for our generation at the expense of our children's and grand children’s generations. Time to settle for another Ivy League, lawyer type, professional politician. Like a "good Republican" I'm ready to hold my nose and vote against Obama......maybe.

This is really sad. Obama will be reelected. I will work hard for somebody once I decide upon a candidate, but we will have Obama for four more years.

It truly is ridiculous how sorry the state of GOP candidates is this year.

See this even down to the local level. Conservatives play fair and get upbraided for trivial BS. The other side cares not one whit what real actual lives they destroy in the pursuit of their goals.

Saw this very thing happen in the mayoral election Nov 8th of this year. The candidate was accused of being fired from his job for stealing, tax fraud, drug use and dealing, etc.

None of it true but it caused the loss of a lot of votes. All the accusations were made on a local messaging board by an actual drug user/dealer, medicare/food atamp fraud. But enough believed it that the election was lost to the Dem incumbent that was accused of absentee voter fraud in the primary.

In case you are unaware, we’re less than 30 days away from the Iowa caucus. Campaigns take a lot of time, prep, groundwork, and advance planning. Palin isn’t going to whip that up in a month. It isn’t a knock against her specifically, just an acknowledgement of political reality.

Keep opinions that make FR look stupid to yourself.

Yes Heaven foribid you state an opinion, how dare you fall out of line with some of the freeper zombies and say whats on your mind. I agree with the post, Romney and Newt dont have a chance against Obama, wake up and deal with it. There's a reason the media doesnt character assassinate those two like they have Palin and McCain.

If any candidate could pull together the necessary volunteers and staff, it'd be her. I'm sure you're unaware that I lived in Iowa from 1974 to 2001 and was a staffer for several presidential campaigns and a fundraiser for the Polk County GOP.

I appreciate your experience and work, but I simply don’t think it can work now. If someone has no staff, no boots on the ground right now then there’s nothing to be done.

Logistics, filing to be on the ballot, campaign managers, expenses, FEC filings, on and on and on. Its not just about Iowa, that’s just the start of a fast-running train.

As a wise man would say, we go to the ballot box with the candidates we have, not the ones we wish we had.

Because people believe that there is no "smoke without fire". In politics what people THINK is true is just as important as what IS true. This is a total nonsense from a moral point of view of course, but unfortunately that is the way people respond. Lies or distortions that are shouted long and hard enough become kind of true, in the sense that everyone just "knows" they are right.

Thus, as far as I understand it, none of these allegations have been proven as yet (at least not ones with any substance), but the left has assembled so many of these character attacks and coordinated them so well it doesn't really matter whether they are true or not. In the minds of the public at large, Herman Cain is now a serial womaniser/adulterer/hypocrite/molester, and the more he denies it, the more attention he draws to the allegations. Even more usefully from the POV of the opposition, because Cain has an (R) after his name the GOP gets tarred with the same brush as well.

If a conservative candidate had a history that was absolutely watertight blameless, he would be pilloried for being “boring”, “holier-than-thou” or that old favorite “puritanical”.

If that’s a serious response, then OK, except I believe all polling has disqualified an unmarried person for the office.

And besides, that suggestion, whether serious or not, still IGNORES my basic premise that if one wants that particular office and one bows out due to “impact on one’s family” (which BTW includes not just wives and offspring), then one has ABSOLUTELY NOT ONE IOTA OF BUSINESS running in the first place, because one is basically a COWARD.

Again, if one allows their campaign to be derailed by innuendo, name calling and rumors, then how can we expect such a person to stand up to the REAL THREATS like A-Q, HAAMAS, Muzzie B’hood, etc, etc etc, ALL of whom would be happy to inflict SERIOUS Bodily Harm on POTUS and those close to him/her.

If there is worrisome crap in one’s background, and having seen the surgery process before, why raise false hopes in the population, unless of course the whole thing is very well planned and orchestrated (KGB/Alinsky & company)?

What is that old saying? Something like (expanded after further consideration):

>Once is a random event (Barry Goldwater)
>Twice is a coincidence (Ross Perot)
>Three times kinda implies a trend/plan (Sarah Palin)
>FOUR TIMES pretty much says (at least to me) “THE PLAN PLAN IS READY FOR PRIME TIME and will work as expected each time it is implemented” (Herman Cain)

Hence my belief that any CONSERVATIVE OUTSIDER making it to the General POTUS Election is forevermore a wet dream. Look at some recent offerings by the nation’s “CONSERVATIVE” party - BOB DOLE and JOHN McCAIN. Now look at the field we will have to choose from:

ROMNEY, GINGRICH, PERRY, PAUL, BACHMAN, SANTORUM, HUNTSMAN

This cast now consists of people who are either a “lesser of two evils” candidate when compared to Obama or doomed to SERIOUS trouncing by Obama in the General Election.

I think what happens goes something like this:

“Pssst, Hey POTUS Candidate from the outside, you have a choice:
(a) get relentlessly, personally decimated by the media
(b) QUIT and either enjoy a VERY profitable career as a political pundit/author/well paid speaker (Palin & Cain) or just go back to your old pre-campaign existence and fade away into the dust of history (Goldwater & Perot)”

To paraphrase one of the greatets movie script lines of all time:

“TRUTH???? We don’t need no stinkin’ TRUTH!!!!”

Gloria All-red and Sharon Bialek didn’t get the message. They are giving a live presser right now, railing against Cain. I’m guessing its a shot over Cain’s bow from the Dems. He suspended his campaign, he didn’t end it. They are letting him know they are waiting in the weeds.....

"We must draft, nominate and elect Sarah Palin president in the most crushing tidal wave of enthusiastic good judgment ever seen in the history of this nation."

Oh for the love of God...nothing could be further from the truth. Palin does NOT have what it takes to turn this country around! Putting aside for the moment that she would be eviscerated in the debates, she clearly values her family such that she values shielding them from the media above all else. Do you really think she has the stones to live in the WHITE HOUSE and exercise said protection from the media while at the same time fighting off democrats, socialists and commies like those who attacked Cain? Please..enough with the Palin crap. Yes she was a decent governor and sticks to the issues, but she is a quitter and has proven that on more than one occasion. No way she could take that kind of heat for four years.

“No, they’ll come for Palin’s money first and take her hide while they’re at it. They hate her most, and will target her first. The war is almost on”

Yes , I agree with all your post.

Why Palin and others don’t see it I don’t know.
