I know what you are saying. Newts ability to communicate with the average person on a level they can understand. Even Newts many detractors here on Free Republic acknowledge he does make good points and that shows his communication skills.

I also think over the last few years, Newt has become wiser. One thing about it, there is always something going on inside his brain. Those brain cells never rest.

BS, he is the most steadfast candidate we have.

You might not like him but he does not waiver.

Every Republican candidate is going to be smeared by the media. That's given, and there is no use to complain about it no matter how unfair and unjust it is. So, whether they can stand or not depends on whether they have prepared for the worst or not. And more importantly, whether they have something that might be used or not. Cain obviously made a huge mistake when he didn't think that his relationship with the last accuser wouldn't be an issue. I don't know if it's an affair, but he made it worse by hiding it from his wife.

So, I disagree that vetting doesn't matter. It does.

Newt was good, he was good on Hanidy the other night too. Trust is still an issue.

All the love affairs here are a little baffling.

First we loved Sarah Palin (guilty here) and, to our complete surprise, she opted not to run.

I was saved from the Cain train because my governor had announced and I like him.

But then there was the Cain love affair. Some really fine people on here loved Cain and he let them down.

Then there is this unaccountable switch to Newt.

I like Newt. He’s glib, fun and full of ideas. But he is not consistent and he’s much better at running than he would be as governing.

I don’t know why conservatives are so quick to excuse his quixotic actions and semi-sordid past. I mean, I would because people can repent and change.

I don’t see the change.

But, of course, I’ll take him over Mitt and over Obama.

But not with love.

Huckabee will replay - you must watch!

I set TIVO but I think it only recorded the first hour....LOL.

All of the candidates did well, but Gingrich goes first and you will love his last answer!

Perry was a happy-ass democrat - the party of big federal government involvement in education and everything else.

Yeah... Back in the 1980s when Texas was almost totally Dem. Perry switched to Repub. in 1989 when he saw the Dems were moving to the liberal dark side, and that’s also when Texans in general began leaving the Dems. Texans are strongly opposed to federal government involvement in State matters and so is Perry.

It’s best to just support your own candidate, Notw..., instead of throwing rocks at the others by making up stuff.

I think that Newt will win, so I hope that he is girded for the battle of his life.

As are We the People. We have to support whomever will beat the Marxist. I just couldn't help thinking tonight I wish any of the people on stage were President tomorrow and Obama would just stay in Hawaii. . . They're each so. . American. . The new cabinet will be interesting. . Lots of good people. . plus we have to keep hammering home how important the potential new SCOTUS nominees are. We know, somehow all the independents have to see it.

I think we expect politicians to project an ability to relate to their audiance...and Newt can do that for the most part...including being statesmanlike when he travels abroad and before foreign leaders. He will be respected.

As for how he relates to the average man...all I can say is some of my first jobs required a certain degree of intellect and projecting that more than not. Within the work hours and outside as well. When I changed the community I was in and the type of work it was a whole new ball of wax to adapt to the people and their style of communication and understanding. I did struggle with that. Newt can come off as arrogant to some....but he's appealing to all levels of intellect...and he can do that for the most part.

What I am hearing and seeing in my workplace is people want someone who really does know what is going on in Washington....how to handle themselves in the halls of Washington... and they are done with those who do not have the experience to do that..... They realize it's not enough to "like" a candidate...they want them to at least know what they know....and many Americans have come along nicely in learning about elections, candidates etc. as never before.

He certainly doesn’t waiver from giving illegal immigrants special goodies that act as magnets to ever more illegals. “Psssst, Juan, sneak in to Texas where - your kids free K12 education will be followed by ridiculously subsidized college education at rates most legal Americans (citizens of the 49 other states) can’t get!”

People who know nothing about Texas politics keep bringing that issue up.

You’re a Texan and so am I and we understand the evolution of Texas politics.

Texas has always been conservative. It just went from conservative democrat to conservative Republican and Perry went with that.
