Tull-Cold Wind to Vahalla
“Cold, cold, cold...”
One of my favorites from way back when.
It's simply called Ice.
Pavement - Greenlander
On an icy island north
In the woods beside the church
We can bury crimson lockets filled with dirt
And when the April thaw
Brings us out again
We can bless the arrows
And the sun won’t stall
And the land will never fall
On virgin fields we’ll skate
Stand by children we’ll create
Like the arctic wind we spin
A windmill’s rose into the threshing soul
You can’t thresh the snow
When the snow is sending
There’s no divine grove
You can see the blankets go
Everything I did was right
Everything I said was wrong
Now I’m waiting for the night
To bring the dawn
Into the only room where the fire’s warm
Where we keep our vices warm
And it’s all that’s left
All that’s left is vices torn
Jethro Tull— Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day
Meanwhile back in the year One -— when you belonged to no-one -—
you didn’t stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.
`Cause you were bred for humanity and sold to society -—
one day you’ll wake up in the Present Day -—
a million generations removed from expectations
of being who you really want to be.
Skating away -—
skating away -—
skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.
So as you push off from the shore,
won’t you turn your head once more -— and make your peace with everyone?
For those who choose to stay,
will live just one more day -—
to do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness:
you feel you have to pray.
Looking for a sign
that the Universal Mind (!) has written you into the Passion Play.
Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.
And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind -—
you’re a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye -—
shining in the setting sun.
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the story’s
too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody’s on the stage, and it seems like
you’re the only person sitting in the audience?
Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.
Coldest song I ever heard was the Wedding March from William Tell; heard it once, and things got real cold after that.

“ICY BLUE HEART”
She came onto him like a slow movin’ cold front
His beer was warmer than the look in her eyes
She sat on a stool, he said, “What do you want?”
She said, “Give me a love that don’t freeze up inside.”
He said, “I have melted some hearts in my time dear
But to sit next to you, Lord, I shiver and shake
And if I knew love, well, I don’t think I’d be here
Askin’ myself if I’ve got what it takes.”
[Chorus:]
To melt your icy blue heart
Should I start?
To turn what’s been frozen for years
Into a river of tears
“These days we all play cool, calm and collected
Why, our lips could turn blue just shooting the breeze”
But under the frost, well, he thought he detected
A warm blush of red and a touch of her knee
He said, “Girl, you’re a beauty like I’ve never witnessed
And I’ve seen the Northern Lights dance in the air
But I’ve felt the cold that can follow the first kiss
And there’s not enough heat in the fires burning there.”
[Chorus]
