Gingrich’s poor excuse for a big idea ("Leave Poor Children Alone, Newt")
Washington Post ^ | 12/07/2011 | Kathleen Parker

Posted on 12/07/2011 5:05:12 PM PST by SeekAndFind

It is a rare day when Al Sharpton emerges as the voice of sagacity, but when Newt Gingrich has the microphone, all things are possible.

Just four weeks out from the Iowa caucuses, Gingrich — swinging like a trapeze artist over the heads of his fellow Republican contenders — has done what everyone knew he would, said something mind-blowingly wrong. Not just wrong as in incorrect but off-the-charts insensitive, insulting and, most important, Out. Of. Touch.

He might as well have wrapped his remarks in a Tiffany box and handed them to Mitt Romney, who could exhale for a moment. Or to Sharpton, who finally had a justifiable excuse for outrage on his MSNBC show and scorched the earth beneath Gingrich’s feet.

Gingrich’s big idea was that kids from poor neighborhoods should work janitorial jobs at school in order to learn a work ethic. His argument was that poor kids who live in housing projects don’t see people working and therefore “literally have no habit of showing up on Monday.” Instead, they gravitate toward, you know, pimping and prostitution.

So much for the big tent. So much for diversity. Sayonara, African American vote. Hasta la vista, Paco y Maria. In one flick of the tongue, Gingrich managed to alienate all those undocumented workers he winked at a couple of weeks ago when he telegraphed during a debate that 11 million illegal immigrants would not be deported during a Gingrich presidency.

The former speaker’s fumble is precisely what some Republicans have feared and others have breathlessly anticipated. The Washington Wager was whether Gingrich could make it for four weeks without self-immolating before Iowa. Or would he find himself so irresistible that he just had to express himself?

Voil à.

“Kathleen Parker is a Mittbot.”

Kathleen Parker is an idiot, no matter who she supports. A liberla posing as a Conservative Columnist because the Left thinks we’re stupid enough to fall for it. There isn’t one Conservative thing I’ve ever seen her write. She’s a plant as an attempt to propagandize. And is to be ignored.

That may be, but Newt is an idiot and totally unelectable, imho. Smart guy, but loads of “issues”. Newt, is also imho, self-involved - bordering on narcissistic, arrogant, morally compromised and disorganized.

“It is a rare day when Al Sharpton emerges as the voice of sagacity” but that never stopped Ms. Parker and her pals a the Post from treating Sharpton like he was God’s gift. That SOB got so much undeserved airtime from the pinheads in the media. So many others who richly deserved being feted as America’s best were sh!t on by the Grahams and their Bilderberger pals. Everyday was a Watergate burglary if you were a Republican, and the DemonRats could do no wrong. Thank God for the internet. I hope the WaPo goes bust. Soon.

All I know is I want my kids to get jobs early in life to learn good work habits, but part time jobs are hard to come by here. And another thang is that this goof Parker is insulting all hard working people with her attack on Newt. She’s a goof.

Trying to give kids a “work ethic” instead of a “someone owes me ethic” is a plus in my mind. I full understand the intent of what Newt is trying to accomplish but of course this is beyond the mentality of Kathleen Parker. Whether or not it can be made to work is another issue.

Newt is correct in his spot-on assertion that there is no "work ethic" in subsidized inner-city housing, and in MOST cases, there's no father in the home, either.

We have the Fishwrapper WP flapping about the racism, insensitivity, etc. when the FACTS are CLEAR and no one will publicly talk about them, for "sensitivity" reasons?

Kathleen is also a racist. She imagines that Chinese, Japanese, Indian and African children can clean up their own classrooms but American children are incapable of the degree of thought needed for that task.

Did Newt suggest that only kids with dark skin perform janitorial work, while kids with lighter skin do "easier" or "less demeaning" work?

If not, then Ms. Parker, Mr. Sharpton, et al should SIT DOWN and SHUT UP.

It has not been too long ago when it was considered character-building for students to work to help pay for their educations.

I look at my sons’ development and the best thing we did for them was to not give them everything they want. They had to work to get extras for themselves from high school through college.

But then to an elitist wannabe idiot like Kathleen Knownothing, I guess their dad and I would be named OUT OF TOUCH. Is that out of touch with the poopie kids at OWS?

It’s obvious that Parker hasn’t even read what Newt said but has rather decided to comment based on hearsay.

If I’m wrong, then Parker is deliberately choosing to report only certain things of what Newt said to put it in the poorest possible light.

In other words Kathleen Parker is engaging in propaganda against Gingrich. I doubt she’s in the bag for Romney as Parker has her head so far up Obama’s ass she can’t even say the word “Republican” let alone support one.

The truth hurts doesn’t it. Newt is correct, these kids do need to learn something besides sitting at home and receiving handouts, or working for drug dealers and crime bosses.

What page of the constitution makes this any of the governments business, here i though conservatives wanted to eliminate the department of education and newt wants to expand it and add a hundred thousand shower stall cleaner education people. I guess several of Penn state's coaching staff will wish to apply.

As the eldest of 12 children in a poor family growing up in the 50s and 60s, I would not have had clothes to wear if I could not have worked. I picked strawberries, raspberries, bulbs, cucumbers, whatever in the summer and when I got to high school I was able to work before and after school in something called “Work Study”. I got paid $1.25 an hour and I got to work in the attendance office and the main high school office in the summer. The summer I graduated I worked in a cannery and also at Head Start, which had just begun.
When I went to college I got to continue the work study program. I got a work ethic and I’m very grateful for what I was allowed to participate in.
If kids today had the opportunities I had they would be much better off, as would the whole USA.

Oh no! and Parker is a conservative! Of course no one ever heard of her until she started attacking “other” conservatives and she writes for the old media, but still boy oh boy this could make me want to support her darling Willard Romney. Mabel where’s my checkbook?
