8 weeks to the Florida GOP Primary, Newt Gingrich resoundingly defeats Mitt Romney, with no other candidates worth discussing, according to a SurveyUSA poll of 500 likely Republican primary voters conducted for WFLA-TV in Tampa.

Gingrich gets 45%, Romney 23%, no one else is above 6%.

* Among those who describe themselves as moderate, Romney leads 3:2. * Among those who tell SurveyUSA they are "very conservative," Gingrich leads 3:1. * Among Evangelicals, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Among members of the Tea Party, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Among pro-life voters, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Gingrich leads by 20 or more points in every region of the state except Southeast Florida, where Romney runs 3 points ahead of Gingrich. * Gingrich's Favorability among likely Florida primary voters is now an extraordinary Plus 54. * Romney's Favorability among likely Florida primary voters is now Plus 30. * By contrast, and as a point of differentiation, Ron Paul's favorability is Minus 11, Rick Perry's favorability is Minus 9.

Anticipating that by the time the Florida primary is held, after Iowa, after New Hampshire, and after South Carolina, that some 2nd-tier candidates may have dropped out of the race, SurveyUSA asked likely primary voters who they would vote for if the only two remaining candidates, at the time of the Florida primary, were Gingrich and Romney.

In a two-man face-off, Gingrich defeats Romney 57% to 30%.

“In the Bible Paul of Tarsus is converted to Christianity, evangelical pastors call for the repentance of sinners at revival services, and everyday many pray for forgiveness of their sins. Why is it so hard to believe that this is not the same Newt Gingrich that is portrayed by those out to destroy his candidacy?..... “

Surely you didn’t just equate St. Paul’s experience to Newt Gingrinch :/

Why don’t you tell us who you are going to vote for in the general election if it’s Newt and Obama.

I am hoping that the folks getting Palin to run will have a nation wide write in and get her in the position as President of the United States of America. It make sense that I vote for her in 2012 since I voted for her in 2008 as McCain was just part of the ticket. McCain only got my vote because he picked Palin and also he was a Veteran. Join me???????

I am still looking for Perry/Palin ticket.

That would be an absolutely awesome ticket. I pray constantly that America will get some real leadership - someone who has a core of conviction to strive to do God's will. I'm old enough to remember when America was great...makes me sad to see her now.

I don’t know if Newt has sought redemption or not. It appears he has, but I don’t know his heart.

id your evangelicalism not have room for redemption? A Christian faith that didn’t countenance redemption would be, to me, a living hell.

The point that everyone is missing out on here is that Mitt Romney cannot win no matter who his challenger is.

Thank you! Why is no one seeing that Romney's support has not grown! He is an extremely vulnerable candidate - most people do not like him. You are right, get that fear out of the way - and then people can give other candidates another look. This is our big chance - why settle?

My problem with Newt is that he is a statist.

I'm sticking with Onyx on this one she met Newt. We all have had a tough road from Palin (let down) to Cain (let down) now Newt. I better not be let down because I am sick of spending the money and wasting bumper stickers!!!

Either way: No Romney, No Obama!!!

Wonder why the MSM won't post Newt vs. Zero? Probably because it is Newt beating Barry by 20 points!!!

I met Zero, he is bad!!!

Either way, the original tea party is Free Republic. That is a fact!

Your right, Newt isn’t a murderer...
Seems the point was Newt can be forgiven and changed if a murder can...

Right?

What has Newt DONE (not talked about, willy-nilly, as he is wont to do) that earned him the ‘statist’ label in your estimation? For the most part, as I recall, his record in Congress was anything but statist, as is borne out by a 90% lifetime (20 year) ACU rating (vs. 91% lifetime for Dick Cheney).

Sorry, I’m just not seeing it. If you wish, please inform me of exactly why you think Newt is a statist. Thanks.

I want to move to Florida. I am so sick of the corruption here in Illinois. People around here are complaining that Blago got a raw deal... Tolls are increasing from .80 to 1.90 thanks to the Democrats in charge of the State. And the amount of Illegals are increasing 10 fold...

Chicago is quickly turning into Detroit!

Well, I was shocked to find Florida has toll roads, but I’m about to look into moving there too!

Let’s think about it! LOL.

I want to go to the GOP Convention in Tampa, provided OUR candidate is the nomineee! How about it?

Clearwater, FL in the Summer is pure Heaven. The water is pretty much 85 degrees. And that's at night!!!

I would really love to go to the GOP Convention this year, but it all depends on whether I go on a mission trip to Slovakia with my church with the College / High School Group as a young adult leader.

Which would be stepping WAY WAY WAY out of my comfort zone.

If I don't go to Slovakia I really want to go to the Convention and I'd love to drag my dad along for the ride I think he'd love it.

I'd love if we could get some Free Republic 2012 T-Shirts though, to show we are a HUGE voting block!!!
