With the lack of job security for head coaches in the NFL, one would think that these men would want their teams being led by the best quarterbacks, regardless of skin color.
However, a look through NFL rosters reveals a troubling trend: white head coaches are more likely to have white quarterbacks, and black head coaches are more likely to have black quarterbacks.
In the NFL, 21.9 percent (7 of 32) of the head coaches are black. According to NFL.com, those seven coaches have 20 quarterbacks on their active rosters. Half (10) of those quarterbacks are black or mixed-race. On the other hand, 25 (78.1%) of the head coaches are white. Of the 66 quarterbacks on those teams, 56 (84.8%) are white, and only ten (15.2%) are black or mixed-race.
Are black coaches biased towards black quarterbacks? Are white coaches biased towards white quarterbacks? Maybe there is a little bit of both.
No matter what the reason, the numbers are clear. If you are a white quarterback, you are much more likely to be playing for a white head coach (84.8%) than a black head coach (15.2%). And if you are a black or mixed-race QB, you are much more likely to find work with a black head coach (50%) even though only 21.9 percent of head coaches are black.

Even more disturbing is the profound lack of Samoan Wide Receivers.
Where’s the outrage over this blatant racism against Pacific Islanders?
Exactly, just look at Donkey Kong Suh. ITs actually really demeaning. To me, it says that the sportscaster was surprised at the outcome, that they think so little of the players before they know them.
There were three different kinds of apes in the Planet of the Apes. Charleton Heston said that during breaks actors would hang out with the other actors who were wearing the same costume.
Well, Tebow is more of a Tight End or Fullback
That must mean that Tight Ends make better Quaterbacks.
They all play for Hawaii, and it takes a long time for that game tape to make it to the states. On a side note, why is there not a clamoring for more diversity on Hawaii’s football team?
Every venue is throwing the race card out...doesn’t Business Insider have a lot more to be concerned about than sports?
Patent BULLSHIT. Liars figure and figures lie.
That is the logical step. At the very qorst, Im sure Jason Witten could throw the same interceptions and make the same fumbles that Romo does.
I remember watching a college game and seeing a LB run right past the ballcarrier and just give up. I said to myself “I could wear a helmet and not tackle people, maybe I should try out.”
Given that the % of blacks in the population as a whole are somewhere around 12%, the author's stats could very well be used to make the point that blacks are over-represented as both coaches and quarterbacks....
This seems to be inaccurate. Black coach/white QB in Indy, Cincy, Pittsburgh, Oakland, Chicago, Tampa, Minn. White coach/Black QB in Philly, Carolina (Rivera is actually hispanic), Seattle. To the best of my recollection, the rest are White/White. I am sure I am missing something, but regardless, there seems to be no such trend as described here.
Ha. Was wondering about this Coach Finger. Gotta love autocorrect.
This sounds like total BS!!! A good QB is a good QB regardless of whether he is black, white or polka-dotted!!
And, good QBs that can WIN are what coaches are MOST interested in!!
Worked in a federal courthouse, land of many democrat and liberal judges.
Funny but the Black judges tended to have more black clerks, the Irish judge always had one or both clerks Irish, Jewish judge had more Jewish clerks. Also true for their court reporters.
It’s called human nature. Like it or not.
Now you know its campaign season and that means we have to keep the race card alive. Cue Business Insider.
I see the same thing. I think we can chalk this up to the MSM trying to create the news rather than report it.
Darn right. I am not a fan of Tebow as a professional QB.
And Pete Carrol.
I was thinking the same thing. Tebow is far from your typical quarterback.
