Romney's $10,000 bet highlights personal wealth (RINO Romney is toast; Peggy Noonan deeply saddened)

He could have bet a beer. Or maybe a steak dinner.

But during a heated dispute with Rick Perry during Saturday night's debate in Des Moines, Iowa, Mitt Romney extended his right hand and asked the Texas governor if he'd wager $10,000 to settle a dispute over his healthcare record. The rich bet instantly provided Romney's opponents with new ammunition for their charge that he's out of touch with middle-class America.

My fear, is that many of Obamas disastrous policies, if implemented by Romney, could become far more dangerous.

Interesting point. Also, having a Republican do it would essentially neutralize the ability of the GOP to halt or hinder the transformation of the US into a socialist paradise. And I don't think Romney would be really averse to the police state aspects of doing so, either.

In any case, I was out and missed the debate (I'll try to watch a replay later) but it sounds as if things went about as expected.

Ha ha....Mitt is gambling, not with his money, but with other peoples' money. Typical establishment elitist RINO liberal.

Mitt, I don't like you because you are the son of a Michigan Governor, I don't like you because you were the Massachusetts Governor....anyone where their main political experience is connected with elected office in liberal states like those, I want no part of.

Maybe true. He just wants to fritter our freedoms away while he has an easy time of playing king in DC, surrounded by an adoring MSM and wheeling/dealing our personal rights down the toilet.

Perry was steady and strong

Perry's comment about a Texas Handshake and Marriage Vows aimed at Gingrich was in poor taste

He should stay on the issues

The voters know all about Gingrich's past

He was asked a question and he gave a very good answer. And Perry never mentioned Newt or anyone else.

***Because these dopes, as you call them, showed the courage to stand up!***

You get it;)

Whatever the motivation behind volunteering for public office - these ‘beauty pageants’ have to be the most demeaning/exhilarating/exhausting/painful/challenging/unnerving/despicable/debilitating/sweat flopping experiences for any ‘normal’ human being.

Having to defend your life from birth, through adolescence (Newt’s first marriage), college courses, elective office infighting, marital conflict, all your conversations with every person you ever met, odd family members, religious conversion, jewelry purchases, diet and all other hobbies or interests unrelated to governing.

I don't think Palin has regrets because as I said all along, I think she was constantly polling and was convinced that she could not budget the high negative numbers. I don't think it's cowardice---I think it's reality. Where someone like Cain messed up was in thinking that he could conceal the appearance of inappropriate behavior in a national campaign.

This is why low-level political experience as a house member or senator is important. Usually, you learn what you need to do to overcome these things. In retrospect, Palin should have run against Murkowski for the senate seat.

But Obama will be giving out free pie.

Not to everyone, though. Somebody's got to pay for the pie.

Oh, come on. All you have to do is look at him. And all he has to do is look in a mirror.

I do not believe that Mitt Romney is 100% self-seeking.

I think he is at least in part trying to help carry out God's plan on this Earth (as are many of us).

The problem I have is that I am not privy to what Romney thinks God's plan is.

Whatever you think of Romney, you cannot convince me that he wants the destruction of this nation that Obama wants.

I agree, but like all RINO's he would take the path of least resistance as President and try to please everyone. Everyone except Conservatives.

Doesn't bother me, but I'm thinking there's a lot of folks in Iowa who don't approve of gambling.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is opposed to gambling, including lotteries sponsored by governments. Church leaders have encouraged Church members to join with others in opposing the legalization and government sponsorship of any form of gambling.

Heck, anyone gonna highlight Newt Gingrich's $500,000. debt/line of credit at Tiffanys?

These people are so out of touch with the average joe-six-pack it's not even funny.

Our representative republic was set up so that any American with a desire to serve in public capacity could do so.

Now, you have to be a millionaire to even come close to getting your message out and run a campaign.

Our system has been grossly perverted.

It was a stupid move. Romney is so out of touch.

That said, everyone is missing the larger context, here. And most seem to be falling for it. It's class warfare. Romney gave everyone the 'GOP are nothing but rich _______.' stick, and even conservatives are using it to beat him.

Yes, Romney's fault. But don't be so quick to fall into the MSM trap.

Perry should have countered with donating the money to a charity like Wounded Warriors.

I agree with most of what you wrote but Sen. Rubio decided not to get in and Mr. Cain withdrew from the race, each for reasons of his own.

Our candidates chose for themselves to step forward (or not) and we are free to nominate whichever we prefer from among them. I think people complain too much about our slate and how it was formed.

In hindsight, considering Newt’s rise to the top, Palin could have absolutely overcome any negative numbers.

Unlike Obozo’s half million dollar Hawaiian vacations funded by taxpayers, atleast Romney is spending his own money.

Romney is still a radical socialist and unacceptable. Since he is a socialist, he is a fool.

I disagree, but we'll never know. Part of running for president is being willing to take the hits over a very long timer (as Newt has, and has Romney). Newt was written off for dead six months ago (I wrote him off too).

Whatever Palin was reading in her polling, it had to convince her that the numbers would not move. I agree. I know too many religious, conservative women who just can't stand her and too many young people who don't like her.

But LS, the same can be said about Newt, too. Just look at FR.

You know, I could seriously see Romney bragging about how efficient he runs a police state compared to anyone else, lol.
