Watching For Perry, Pulling For Palin
Townhall ^ | December 30, 2011 | AWR Hawkins

Posted on 12/30/2011 1:34:46 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

As I sat with my extended family on Christmas, we discussed how beatable Barack Obama is. And as I listened to them run through the litany of reasons why this is so, I could only say again: “If the Republicans nominate a true conservative for president, Barack Obama is done.” As it is impossible for his record to hold up to the scrutiny that a Reagan-like candidate would subject it to, so too it is equally impossible to diminish the energy and support Tea Partiers would bring were they to throw their weight behind a candidate who’s not just a “fiscal conservative” or a “social conservative” but a real life conservative through and through: Someone who is pro-tax cut and pro-life, pro-spending cuts and pro-traditional marriage, as well as pro-military and pro-victory in the war on terror. Granted, there aren’t many candidates that fit this bill. Romney certainly doesn’t, Huntsman couldn’t, and Ron Paul’s views on our military efforts overseas and our culpability in the 9/11 attacks raise disturbing questions.

Moreover, Paul’s seeming indifference toward the plight of Israel, an indifference some construe as animosity, will be more and more problematic for him when it is better publicized.

Of course, conservatives could think about Gov. Rick Perry, a staunch supporter of the right to keep and bear arms without nuances, a man who loves our military, despises big government, and understands that our enemies attacked us on 9/11 because they hate us: and that they hate us because the heritage of our Judeo-Christian culture is freedom.

When Perry entered the race, he proved he had the capacity to rally grassroots supporters in a way that none before him, save Gov. Sarah Palin, had been capable of doing. He has flaws, and I have not been shy about highlighting those when they came to my attention. However, he is consistently pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-God, and pro-states’ rights. When talking to friends about Perry I’ve said, “He never met a tax cut he didn’t like.” Does he debate well? Who cares. Honestly, the debates have proven to be almost fixed, as the moderators give more time to their favorites or those they consider front-runners, and that effectively shuts out others (Perry included). Besides, I’m looking for a Commander-in-Chief not a debater-in-chief.

Yet if Perry fails to get traction, we will have to look elsewhere.

Enter Palin. She’s a conservative, she’s proud of her country, she’d be a strong ally for Israel, and she’s beautiful: for these reasons the left hates her. They actually fear her, but they present it as hate to keep from showing their weakness. And I don’t see any reason why see can’t reassess the field and enter the race, in the event Perry fails to regain traction or if no other candidate jumps in. It seems that Palin agrees with this assessment, as just last Monday she said: “It's not too late for folks to jump in. Who knows what will happen in the future."

I honestly believe Perry or Palin would be a nightmare scenario for Obama. And as I’ve watched Perry speak on the fly, and heard his conviction, I’ve continued to hope he regains traction. But if he doesn’t, I hope Palin will jump in and “fight like a girl” so we can have a conservative in the White House again.

Palin could do to Obama what Reagan did to Carter, times ten. And who wouldn’t pay to see her look Obama in the eye during a debate and say: “A recession is when your neighbor loses his job, a depression is when you lose yours, and a recovery is when [Barack Obama] loses his.”

Welcome.

I didn’t have much history of speaking to Randy, so I don’t know about whether he had a history of abusing other posters.

Happy New Year!

This was last night. The posts don’t read as tho the poster had been drinking, just on the angry side. At least the ones remaining. Can’t speak for the rest.

I know that at least one of the ZOTs the last couple of days was from class of 98. Maybe he lost a FRiend and just lost it himself.

I sure didn't think so. Seems like Palin not running got to him. Again, I'm just guessing.

He told a poster to pull their head out of their ‘fat [butt, paraphrased]’ and told others to “KMA”.

He used "KMA" on me before. He chickened out when I asked him to expand on his acronym.

Seriously though, what the hell is it with Paleos, lately? They've been poppin' like skeeters in a bug zapper!

Did he have a history of abusing other posters? Could he have been drunk?

I've seen him get pretty abusive in the past. He generally backed down when called on it.

Further up thread someone mentioned that Randy behaved like that on other threads.
I’d only dealt with him in the Canteen.
So imagine my surprise last night to watch that go down.

As for the lots o’ zots lately, some people are just letting this election cycle get to them.
Like the Mitt Romney pushers who can’t seem to figure out that pushing liberal party planks is not a conservative thing to do... seems there’s a disconnect with them about what is or isn’t conservative.

I didn’t have much interaction with Randy Larsen, if at all. I don’t know his posting habits. What you mention is as likely as anything, I guess. Most of what’s been going down lately is the Paul and Romney bots. That’s to be expected, and will likely increase the closer we get to the primary cycle starting this week.

Let’s face it, we’re a target for all the nut cases out there that follow Paul. As for the Romney fans, most seem to have been fairly short timers who’ve likely been keeping a low profile. With the Iowa polling showing Paul, Santorum and Gingrich doing well, they may be getting a little edgy and are trying to rile things up.

I get the feeling he has other handles and we’ll be hearing from himagain.
Much like the infamous DannyH.

I think a lot of the Romney followers have felt fairly comfortable during the early campaign season. Now, since he simply can’t break over 30% with all these other candidates in the race, and Santorum, Paul and Gingrich doing fairly well, they may have gotten a little antsy. And it comes out in their posts. Instead of keeping a low profile, they open up more and get the ZOT. JMO, for what it’s worth (probably not much...).

I’ve had someone tell me that by FReepMail. Also mentioned two others we’d be familiar with. I wouldn’t be surprised. We need to watch those IP addresses...

That was real freaky to watch last night.
Like I said, it was as if he went unhinged.

There was no criticism of you or of the righteousness of the ZOT intended - have seen him a lot on the Canteen, although not recently. I'm surprised by his behavior. Quite a trail of deleted posts - they must have been choice.

I hear that!
The Undead Thread is currently debating what to do for the first.
Whether weshould take a current zotted troll thread, or ambush the first troll of the year that we find like we used to.

We’re kindda rusty on the latter, being that we’ve had mainly donated threads for the past year or two due to the lack of quality trolls.

I am reminded of 99-2000 when all the Pat B supporters were purged, happily for me I was supporting Steve Forbes even thou I did like a lot of what Pat B was saying. I still kinda miss some of those old posters. Too bad we can’t debate the merits of X vrs Z without fear of being zotted. But not my house and I try to play by the (house) rules.

I’ve had a few interactions with him and he was often testy to the point of being quite harsh. I wondered if he was drinking, or just very bitter and angry. Either way, it’s not good for the health, either mental or physical (what to speak of spiritual).

It was truly bizarre to watch that happen last night.
I can’t quite describe it except to say, “Watching a mind shatter on live TV.”

I didn’t take offense at your post, I was just explaining.

I’m just as surprised about this as you. I hate announcing a ZOT for a long-timer, especially a Canteener.
