2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

Rubio is a Natural Born Citizen.

Anyone who claims otherwise is either a racist or a crackpot or both.

We lost in ‘92 because of Perot, but Bush’s bad performance did not help. Clinton won with 43% of the vote.

And George HW Bush won Iowa in 1980

Iowa gets the attention because it’s first, but it rally doesn’t mean that much.

That dog won’t hunt this time around, varina.

Maybe you’d like to try the deceased child angle?

“How’s Newton McGrich doin’?”

Tied for first nationally, leading big in the South, and just beginning to advertise.

All in all, he’s in much better position that McCain was (McCain lost Iowa to Santorum’s clone, Huckabee).

Obama is a human being too.
And so was Osama Bin Laden.
Both of them were even sentient.

Having a child at age 48 with the very high risk of Trisomy 18 is beyond foolish and stupid. More like hubris and arrogance.

Sorry dude, I just sent the limit to Newt. I have 7 other friends that just did the same. He has to be the not-Romney guy. Rick is a nice guy, he can’t do it.

Boy, I sure hope you’re right! I agree that Iowa will soon be forgotten by all but Paul supporters and I would bet it all on Newt going head-to-head against Santorum. We really need to get the conservatives consolidated and it has to happen soon. It seems to me that most conservatives are not fooled by what they are seeing in Iowa tonight. Rick Santorum worked a very strong ground game and hugely benefitted from the massive air attack against Newt.

Clearly if the Caucuses would have happened the Tuesday after the last debate, we would be seeing a very different result tonight. Santorum won all the voters that were driven out of Newt in the last 3 weeks. I just don’t see Santorum being able to outfight Newt.

Perry just said he is headed to South Carolina in the morning. New Hampshire is already bought by Romney.

I live in Story, but I just looked at my home county, O’Brien, which just came in—on the state site. Had to laugh. Santorum 265, Paul 105, Perry 73, Newt 57. They only show top 4, so Mittens was below that obviously. I find that funny about Mittens. I expect neighboring Sioux County to come in similar, with the same numbers times 2.5 because of a bigger county.
