If you are looking for a conservative alternative to Romney and had to choose today between Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry or Rick Santorum, which one would you choose?
Final results of the Free Republic 1/9/2012 non-Romney Conservative Straw Poll (see post 548)
Newt | 225 | 59.7% |
Perry | 77 | 20.4% |
Santorum | 75 | 19.9% |
Newt
1a. Newt
1b. Perry
I like both equally for different reasons.
Unfortunately, poor extemporaneous speaking has torpedoed Perry’s chances. He’s a much better leader than he’s demonstrated nationally the last few months. Part of his appeal has more to do with his hands-off approach rather than strong executive meddling. And not just because of the political structure of the Texas system; I think it’s in his DNA. He believes more in individuals than govt. More so than any other candidates.
Newt got slimed by Romney’s henchmen but the door’s still slightly ajar for him. Anything can happen.
Newt Gingrich. Best debater, best chance to defeat Obummer.
Santorum
Perry!
Perry/Newt = ideal ticket

Perry
Perry
As Todd Palin pointed out...Newt's ENTIRE staff walked out and he rescrambled from nothing...no money...to become an upper tiered candidate.....scrappy little bastard. We need more like him

Interesting, Charles. Thanks for counting.
I was wondering how it was going.
Looks like Newt is big winner around here and Perry has moved in front of Santorum.
Nobody else matters.
Newt.
Here’s our results through post 423:
Newt......... 188 60.5%
Perry.......... 59 19.0%
Santorum.... 64 20.5%
Newt, Santorum, and Perry in that order, although Santorum disappointed me today in his support of SOPA.
This NH resident will be voting for Newt Gingrich tomorrow.
1.Governor Rick Perry...if his message would stop being distorted, it would be THE message of Tea Party.
That’s WHY his message is being distorted or quashed altogher,
see the last ABC debate.
And he’s talking about doing things he’s ALREADY DOING IN TEXAS. This is not RHETORIC. It’s implementation of successful policy in the other 49 and whacking DC to bits.
Perry!
100% with Newt.
Newton Leroy “Newt” Gingrich
