A Fine for Not Using a Biofuel That Doesn’t Exist
New York Times ^ | Jan 9, 2012 | Matthew L Wald

WASHINGTON — When the companies that supply motor fuel close the books on 2011, they will pay about $6.8 million in penalties to the Treasury because they failed to mix a special type of biofuel into their gasoline and diesel as required by law.

But there was none to be had. Outside a handful of laboratories and workshops, the ingredient, cellulosic biofuel, does not exist.

In 2012, the oil companies expect to pay even higher penalties for failing to blend in the fuel, which is made from wood chips or the inedible parts of plants like corncobs. Refiners were required to blend 6.6 million gallons into gasoline and diesel in 2011 and face a quota of 8.65 million gallons this year.

“It belies logic,” Charles T. Drevna, the president of the National Petrochemicals and Refiners Association, said of the 2011 quota. And raising the quota for 2012 when there is no production makes even less sense, he said.

Herein lies the problem.

American patriots are looking for solidarity and leadership against this rebellious government

So here's a guy, "leader" of unknown (hundreds of ?) thousands, well, WELL financed ... and in the end, they will hire lawyers and pay the money.

No wonder America is tanking

Does anybody wonder any more why the White House had an “Alice In Wonderland” party...?

Obviously, congress needs to make a law to force these companies to follow the law.

Strange the NYT would report this at all, but... Why now? The Wall Street Journal discussed this in depth about a month ago.

No, what they are doing is perfectly logical. It just seems insane because until you remember that their motives are evil. If you want to crush our economy and put more companies out of business, mandating fines for something they can’t possibly comply with is absolutely logical.

Simple solution: Tell the government you DID use the required biofuel.

Make them prove you didn't.

This is just a disguised tax. A way to raise taxes without looking like you are raising taxes.

When you have idiots in Washington running the Country what do we expect. Brains, they have none. We are in real decline and nothing will stop it except a total overhaul. Only Newt is capable and knows how to do it.

What belies logic about it? They want the money, they found a way to confiscate it, pretty cut and dry.

Tell the gov’t to shove the fines.

Any law that is impossible to comply with is unenforceable.

Take the clowns to court and sue them for stupidity.

The ethanol industry is targeting Texas governor and Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry in the run-up to the Iowa caucuses for arguing government should not subsidize ethanol production or mandate a market share for ethanol. Despite the attacks, Perry is holding firm in arguing government should not be picking winners and losers in the energy marketplace.

And what kind of damage will this garbage do to the equipment out there when it does become available?
