John Bolton endorses Mitt Romney, saying he’s “conservative enough”
Hot Air ^ | January 12, 2012 | TINA KORBE

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton has officially endorsed Mitt Romney. He announced his decision in favor of the former Massachusetts governor last night on Greta van Susteren’s Fox News show and followed up that announcement today with a formal statement, which was released by the Romney campaign.

Bolton’s reasoning seems to come down to this: Mitt will have to do because nobody better is running. To van Susteren, he said, in reference to himself, “Looking at the whole range of prospective candidates, there was only one candidate who met my test as the ideal conservative, but he decided not to run.”

He then justified his decision to endorse Mitt anyway. “So faced with everyone else, I followed the William F. Buckley Jr. test which is to find the most conservative candidate who is capable of getting elected. There are obviously two variables there. But in the words of that old song, ‘gimme that old time religion, Romney’s conservative enough for me.’”

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Bolton is a Beltway guy who views everything thru a foreign affairs lens.

This is, however, a blow to Gingrich. I guess he won’t be Newt’s Sec of State now.

Electable? Conservative enough?

Yeah, for a RINO.

I had much higher hopes for Bolton.

I love Amb. John Bolton......I sat in shock last night while he endorsed Romney. I sat there for a long time in a stupor. I am feeling another Dole/McCain loss with the idiotic Washington RINOs picking our candidate. The fix is most definitely in.

Bolton has too narrow a perspective.

Romney can not win the nomination.

I have no idea why he left that part out of his calculations.

No, it shouldn't.

Bolton supports the sham of homosexual "marriage" and runs from the moral questions of abortion.

He's probably to the left of Romney. Wait. Sorry. That's not possible.

Romney’s conservative enough for me.

Then bye, bye Republican party.

Either another party comes out of it or the USA no longer exists as we have known it.

Romney isn't even conservative, at best he is just not 0bama.

" . . there was only one candidate who met my test as the ideal conservative, but he decided not to run.”

Is Bolton referring to himself?

I think so.

It's for sure a downer for Newt that Romney looks like a bigger warmonger than he is himself.

As for Bolton, he could find a job at any number of think tanks and have as much influence as SoS under Gingrich. Which is to say, none.

So the choice comes down to color, not character or policy. What a rotten barrel of putrid fish our politics has become.

Bolton is a neocon.

Why expect more of him than an endorsement of Mitt?

Oh I forget he is exactly correct when he talks about defense and foreign policy so he must be intelligent enough to make good decisions with regard to presidential candidates.

Or maybe his stupidity with regard to his choice of presidential candidate is a reflection of his equal stupidity with regard to for...

Oh, I better not go there.

A Republican Presidential nominee who is conservative ‘enough’ for someone like Mr. Bolton can be expected to lose by a landslide. Mr. Bolton gives such weak praise at the assumed beginning of Mr. Romneys campaign that the Romney boat may sink before it leaves port. With Mr. Romney as nominee, the Republicans can be expected to lose the White House, remain a weak minority in the Senate, and possibly lose the House. The Liberal juggernaut of the arrogant, privileged rich, union machines and government drones will defeat Mr. Romney.
