With her face grimacing in unbearable discomfort, this is the moment a trainee bodyguard has a bottle smashed over her head.
Amazingly, the recruit has to stand there and take it if she wants to qualify as one of China's first female bodyguards.
The training session, which took place in Beijing, involved 20 women, most of whom are university graduates.
Extreme methods: An instructor smashes a bottle over a female recruit's head during a training session for China's first female bodyguards in Beijing
The four-week programme is run by trainers from Tianjiao Special Guard Consultant Ltd and is the first open group training for female bodyguards in China.
Each trainee goes through ten months of instruction to develop her skills in reconnaissance, anti-terrorism training, martial arts and business etiquette.
The best individual from the class is also invited to study further at the International Security Academy in Israel.
With the booming economy in China and increasing wealth sparked by high demand for Chinese goods and materials, demand for bodyguard services had risen dramatically on the Chinese mainland.
Graduates of bodyguard courses can look forward to a well-paid career if they are recruited by wealthy businessmen.
That is especially the case for women, who are in high demand because they are less visible than their male counterparts and because they can assume roles such as secretary or nanny.
Female bodyguards are often paid far better than male counterparts - up to $100 a day - because they can adopt these different roles. The average annual wage in China is just $1,500.

Hecho en Germany ?
Ja, und in Norwegen, auch!
Hollywood bottle.
There was a game that had chun li in it that was drawn in a way that made her look a bit “manly” shall we say, LOL.
[ Notice how these girls are all very pretty? They arent really being hired for protection.
I disagree. If they were just being hired as mistresses, they would not need the training.
They need to look like a secretary, aide, or mistress. It defeats the whole purpose if they obviously could not be anything other than a bodyguard. ]
Yes indeed, you want them to “hide in plain sight” so they attacker will be lulled into a false sense of security and then, BLAMMO, the cute female body guard drops them with a dose of hypervelocity lead.
“Im pretty sure hitting someone with a real bottle would kill them. A million westerns not withstanding.”
Not necessarily. Depends on the thickness of the glass.
I worked many a night in a Navy emergency room (Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL, thank you very much). I had several sailors, and a few Marines, come in from local bars, having gotten into fights, and had bottles smashed over their heads. They bled like HELL, for sure, and ended up with nice scars they could brag to their grandkids about, but most didn’t even lose consciousness.
Most bottles out there will crush a skull long before the glass breaks. Training or no training. Those simply cannot be regular wine bottles.
Actually, they are. Female bodyguards are becoming more popular around the world. Some are former high-level competetive pistol and rifle shooters, truly dead shots. They use their gender as camoflage, staying right near an executive or other principal, while appearing to be a high-level personal secretary. The valise or clipboard etc they are carrying is probably armored, and concealing a large pistol. By posing as an executive secretary, they are able to move right into executive boardrooms with their principal, while the more knuckle-dragging obvious male bodyguards remain outside. If anything goes nuts in that office, the “executive secretary” will suddenly be putting out accurate pistol fire.
yup - as a GI in Germany I got a bottle over the head.
bled like a stuck pig. took 4 stitches. never did find the sob who threw it.
Depends on the bottle, and how they hit. The bottom corner of a wine bottle will break a skull. The middle will not.
That's Lacist!
You guys “get it.” See 28.
That's Lacist!
That “bottle” certainly shattered in a LOT of little pieces... Hmmm...
Hi RitchieAprile:
I’m now in Germany as a civie with the US Army. Occassionally a GI comes to our clinic having been in a bar fight. Seems the trend here is to indescriminately throw a bottle and run. I’ve had several troops with the injuries you described. In every single case...more than 4 stitches.
Regards,
Levante
Nope, they look pretty average for young urban chinese women.
Oh be still my beating heart!
I see a career path for my little girl that momma would NOT appreciate.
I always said she’s gonna be able to outshoot most cops by the time she’s twelve ;o)
Hey, that’s my likeness. That’s okay, it’s my best side and for a good cause.
